In short

The hosts riff on why restaurant and dive-bar drama gets obsessive attention, using examples like Kiki’s (seized sign; “fled to Greece” joke) and Dudley Market in Venice, LA (multiple violations for selling fish caught by fishermen who brought it in fresh from the ocean). They also discuss the decline of “third places” like dive bars amid cashless life, inflation, and changing tastes. A major segment centers on Chris’s attendance at a Meta Glasses launch party in Chelsea, including meeting Mark Zuckerberg briefly and discussing why media interviews often ask “softball” questions rather than hard accountability ones.

Guest backgrounds

No guests appear in this transcript; it’s just Chris and Jason.

Key claims

Restaurant closures/openings are more “newsworthy” than other industries because of personalities and social media. Dive bars are disappearing due to fewer people wanting that experience and higher costs. Interviewers shouldn’t be expected to ask hard questions if the format is entertainment, and “platforming” is often misunderstood.

Notable examples

Dudley Market violations; Kiki’s closure/seizure; Meta Glasses launch with Zuckerberg, Eva Chen, and Corey Gamble; Can’t-Lion/Cannes-style festival commentary.

0:00All right, this episode of How Long Gone is brought to you by Stateside with Kai and Carter, a new podcast from The Guardian. And they are using this podcast to slow down the news and wrestle with the questions that we all have about what's happening in the world. And they do it three times a week. Jason, does that sound familiar to you?

0:13Jason Stewart:We don't really talk about, you know, a lot of international global news items and climates and cultures and sports and things like that. We do talk about fashion and wellness, but for everything else, Kai and Carter are a great place. All right, so who couldn't use more news? Listen wherever you get your podcasts or watch on YouTube.

0:48At the top, it's just us. How long gone? Back for another fucking podcast. Am I right, them jeans?

0:54Jason Stewart:You're right, Chris. They're not my ads. they're our ads and we have to do them together and we have to and we get to profit from them together i'm just over here let's see thursday morning the clouds of uh burning lithium ion batteries are have begun to sort of clear a path it's so you know it's we have a heat wave going on there's like seven earthquakes that happened yesterday they're supposed to be a an alien was supposed to come at the brazil game yesterday i don't think i saw that i saw that and i was waiting with bated breath but i haven't seen an alien appear yet um no i mean i saw some alien type creatures this morning at 6 a.m at newark but i don't think they were from another planet you know what i mean i don't think you you were at newark at 6 a.m today hell yeah big bro come on you you know how i do it we have first flight out i didn't know what so where are you now i'm an atl baby atl ho so you went down just a just a bull with your fam yeah i'm trying to work i'm trying to lock in i got some quiet a politic with you oh this is are we on a big this is chris's rider's retreat now don't go in his room no i'll just leave the biscuits at the door sweetheart you can get him when you're hungry okay so she's gonna slide in the tate's cookies underneath the door while you're clacking away on the please my mom my mom makes her own i i she's not a cook by any means but when it comes to dessert she's kind of sick with it that's that you've had a pastry you know you've had a brookie yeah of course i've had some of her work in the cluster space what she can do with a white chocolate and that's what they call me when i'm home so it works out perfectly that's actually named after me that's what they yell at you as you drive by people on atvs yell at you yeah when i got my old school out they call me white chocolate on sundays you're probably going to what's the name of the vegan the vegan restaurant oh slutty vegan r.i.p i think it close i think she's the old school to slutty vegan everyone's yelling white chocolate unfortunately i think slutty vegan was uh what much like kiki's has been repossessed by the united states government for for lack of no no i heard that slutty vegan is actually pivoting to ai i mean their stock is crazy right surging her memoir sold out the stock is surging every which way yeah we didn't even talk about kikis i mean but you know why jason you know why jason because it's a it's a classic who cares situation i i think i've been there once in my life maybe twice and i was you know it's one of those things that this happens to you too it happens to all of us where you go somewhere that you've heard a lot about and you sit down and you're just like you know what this just ain't for me even if the zucchini chips are smacking and the ac is cranking it's just this ain't you You just know this ain't for me.

3:39Jason Stewart:You need more than fried zucchini and air conditioning to impress you. Honestly, no. I think that's good, Chris. That's the thing. Usually, no. No, that is all I need, yet they were unable to deliver that for whatever reason. It's just an audience issue. I know I sound like a social media manager, but it's an audience engagement issue. I think it's just not for us. We're too old, I think, is really what it is. So like in our mind, we're like, we want to go to a place that's comfortable, you know, hot crowd, food's good enough, get a drink, you know, people treat, people can talk like human beings.

4:13Jason Stewart:You know, we're willing to handle some long jorts if we have to. yeah whatever's going on but it just says yeah i mean so apparently i mean it's just interesting why so many people care about the drama related to a restaurant maybe people are just endlessly fascinated by it but like it happens in la happens in new york i'm sure in every other city as well just like did you hear that this bowling alley tater tot pop-up is having like issues with like the unionization of wage theft inequality no shit restaurants are houses of cards well i mean i mean one part is no shit but then another part is like who who gives a flying fuck you know no one's like dude the hardware store is having wage theft no it's true any type of any brick and mortar business nobody really cares but when even when a restaurant goes from like a b to a c grade or whatever you know we got there's a there's a restaurant in um dudley's market which is i guess an australian place that people go to but you're talking about in new york you're talking about dudley's okay there's one in LA.

5:18Jason Stewart:I don't know where it is. Okay. It might be a different, it could be a different Dudley's. I don't know if it's the same corporation. We don't know those facts. We don't know those facts, but I'm sure I could pull it up. Maybe it was Dudley. Okay. It's okay. Yeah. It was Dudley market in Venice. The word Dudley is so Australian that it could, it could pop up any which way. There's no, that was the name of my professor in religious studies at Perth U. So Dudley's market was, Dudley's market was under duress. So everyone is like, we want to have, you know, farm to table. This is pole caught tuna.

5:51Jason Stewart:You know, we're not doing any, this is all organic grass fed, you know, blah, blah, blah. I heard about, I caught it. I caught something with a pole too. You know what I'm saying? Say what now? I caught my wife with this, this here pole right here. Short and stubby, but you know, forget it done. Hey, it does the job. Luckily the water levels were low. The water levels were low? Wow. It's not, I mean, it's not a line issue. Okay. So Dudley Market in Venice, they were, they were popped by multiple violations for basically buying fish from dudes who like went out into the ocean, caught some fish fresh out of the ocean and took it to the restaurant and said, here's, you know, the freshest fit.

6:38Jason Stewart:You know, I think that happens everywhere all over the world. You know, you're in Venice or you're in Italy, you know, you're in Greece, all these places. You see some old guy on some fucking boat that's running on a horse, you know, like a lawnmower engine, shit everywhere. Some nasty motherfucker. He's smoking three cigarettes, cutting the fish up. And you're like, this is going to be awesome. But in L.A., they're like, no, you can't do that. So they got all these violations. But all it is to say, you know, if you Google Dudley fishing, there's just like page after page. L.A. Times, New York Times, SF.

7:11Jason Stewart:Really? SF Gate, L.A. Mag. Everyone's like, damn, dude. and just because it's a restaurant but if somebody was like oh this you know mohawk general imported some fucking linen that we forgot to tax at the wharf yeah at the port of miami or whatever like who it's not even a news story but someone buys a squid from the ocean at their seafood restaurant and now we got problems i don't want to blame how we care i don't want to blame half our listeners but this sounds like a food media issue um and the i mean i will say in the in the world of news I think openings and closings, like the action of that really exists in the restaurant world more than any other industry.

7:52I would say that we sort of, you know, like grocery stores aren't opening and closing once a week in every neighborhood you've ever been to, if that makes sense. Like, I think I think that sort of and it's also like it's it's like fashion or anything else. It's big personalities. You know what I mean? So you want you got these problematic chefs. It's I don't know why I've never understood why dining out is sexy, even though I love it so much. but it is something that appeals to people who aren't even i mean before i lived in la i knew about restaurants in la because i read you know what i mean there it's like it's sexy it is i mean or at least it's sexier than many things we have to care about but i mean i don't i don't think that like the fact that every as you said you know girl in jorts and a fucking cuckoo intimates tank top with the ballet flats was taking a picture of the seized sign at kiki's does does feel a little extreme like for yeah as far as behavior i was i was staying across the street at the nine orchard

8:45Jason Stewart:shout out to my 90 fam and the gym the window from the gym looks straight down into that wall with the seized sign and as i'm you know working on my little doing my things you know hitting the geek bar out the window i'll peek down and every time i look down somebody on a city bike walking newscasters film you know it was it was non-stop everyone had to go and be like damn this restaurant has a sign on it it's it's not even a restaurant that everyone like makes fun of and talks shit on for like being basic as well it's cool that he it's it's cool that the guy who's who's in trouble escaped to his homeland free of free of yeah i guess i guess the kiki nem they have they've already fled to to greece they're back they're on the beach is gone they're back they're on the beach legs kicked up ponytail and a top knot they're fucking sipping on they're still spending old feta money over there that money that manhattan money spends a lot longer over there on the dude he sold enough on the island of lesbos he he sold enough zucchini chips to chicks that don't eat to live for at least five years in in he's gonna an island on an island in greece travel from village to village telling these grandmas how to how to cut up a zucchini and fry it for 20x profit look i'm not i'm only gonna tell you about the food i'm not gonna tell you how to sleep with 25 year olds to go to they just graduated from fit but there's there's more to these stories nona uh well all right r.i.p to kiki's and all the other restaurants i also i get it served a lot a guy who like covers this in la on instagram and every video has he includes this sort of meme uh clip from the Hannah Montana show before he tells you which restaurant is closing.

10:33Jason Stewart:Oh, I know what you're talking about. He only seems to focus on West Hollywood restaurants that I've never heard of, so it doesn't really apply to me, but I've seen it. If you see him, if you pay attention to him, you realize why he's covering West Hollywood. You know what I mean? It's kind of his. I have no idea what you mean, Chris. Please expand. It just feels like his stomping ground. It feels like he's been a resident for quite a while, both at night and during the day. Just say it's my jurisdiction. Yeah, it's his jurisdiction. Oh. Got him. Christopher. Okay, so he's a gay guy talking about gay restaurants.

11:04Jason Stewart:Is that what we're saying? Is that what we're going to minimize him down to? I guess the only one I'd ever heard of was Connie and Ted's. That was literally the only one I've ever heard of. Or what was that place you went for a little while that was really expensive and closed very quickly that had the table side? Stella West Hollywood. Bro, that place was open for six months. I know, I know. And some of the food was very exciting and interesting, but the crowd was just like Oppenheimer group fucking dumbasses. Hey, we're not going to do that here. I don't know how long gone. Just the dumbest people you could ever imagine.

11:35Jason Stewart:And this poor chef is like, yeah, I've imported this grain from a Nona. And everyone's like, can I have another espresso martini? And they're like, ugh. Do you guys have pizza? Yeah, I know. So if you choose that location, obviously it's a high net worth zip code. So in that sense, it might work. Throw a sexy fish in there. Don't try to put a polygonal peg into a square hole. Wow. I didn't know you knew that. Well, because I was reading about yesterday in the food newsletter we love to talk about, Caper, there was just a dive bar story, you know? Like, how are we going to live without dive bars, man?

12:19you know and i'm just sort of like are we losing our dive bars i think we're at risk of losing our dive bars which obviously i love that i mean i'm in atlanta this is i used to eat at dive bars fucking four nights a week like i i love i love the institution when they before they call it gay ass third space exactly when they used to have jukeboxes that weren't electronic you know

12:37Jason Stewart:that weren't you couldn't skip the line yeah you put yeah you throw on everybody do the twist now and all, you know, put on your bebop jam. Back when a vodka cranberry meant something before Olivia Rodrigo ruined it. Go down to the sock hop, put on some chubby checker and have a slice of apple pie with your dame. But I'm just reading this and I'm like, dude, like, I just had a certain point. I think it's like natural selection is part of our capitalist society for better or worse. It's like some of these places will survive because they're icons and people love them and some of them are going to close.

13:11and like everything else, I don't know if we need this sort of blanket in memoriam when it's like, I don't know, man. You can find a dive bar in most cities you go to. Maybe they're less and less, but I think that means because most people don't want them.

13:26Jason Stewart:Yeah, most people don't want them. The tides have changed. The empire of alcohol and cheap drinking and hanging out at a bar has fallen, and now we are inside of our digital pod, one-bedroom apartments with our phillips skylight on the ceiling simulate natural light and you know alcohol is a poison when i could be going to a peptide virgin mixer in san francisco and hang out in the backyard and drink some kirkland sodas and talk you know take photos of a of a jar nobody nobody needs a bar anymore nobody can afford alcohol anymore a dive bar you used to go and get a$5 Miller High Life or whatever.

14:06Jason Stewart:And$5 bill in the jukebox and three cigarettes, and you and your friends have a great, amazing night. And now that costs$148. And we can't be doing that on a Tuesday. Once the price of Jager bombs went up, that's when I left. I was like, you know what? I can't deal with this inflation. But I mean, obviously dive bars are, I feel the most like I want to do cocaine when I walk in one, which means they are the best places, if that makes sense. That's a sign to me that they are the best places to drink, do drugs, and of course, smoke cigarettes. And you're right. If people aren't doing that as much anymore, then the best places for it might suffer.

14:45Jason Stewart:Yeah, but I think you're right. I think there were just too many dive bars because a bar used to be a really good business, very high profit margins. You got to deal with some bullshit, but if you're okay with that, you can make some good money and now there's just not enough people then you know even even weed dispensaries are closing because there's just too many of them we're just like bro like yeah like i like weed but like i don't need more weed stores than 7-elevens or but i would rather i it's funny that there's a generation of people that don't understand the charm and would rather go into like a direct to consumer vibe cocktail lounge that is you know what i mean that feels very soft around the edges which i if like you're gonna go drink you either i don't i mean at this point i don't even know where people i don't know where people go like i i don't in new york i think they you know ear in and walkers like all the old bars downtown are busier than they're busier than ever like walkers is fucking wall to wall with cool guys you know what i mean it's like it's like the new finale which is like that's cool but you can only have a couple of those and and that's in York City, for Christ's sake.

15:49That's the number one place to do this kind of activity. Yeah.

15:52Jason Stewart:I don't know what's going on over in Tulsa. Or maybe they're like, yeah, we go to the bar every day. That's all they have. That's what I mean. If you go to the Midwest, you go to Texas or whatever. I mean, Atlanta still has, all the places I used to go are still open, surprisingly enough. So I do think it could be, it does feel like a little bit of a major city issue. Because if you go to Detroit in the winter, I'm sure there are plenty of dive bars to drink in. I guess, and you would think that some of these New Yorkers would romanticize those times, you know, 70s, 80s, 90s, we see on film and television of like the every apartment building had a dive bar and a laundromat and a bodega on the on the ground floor.

16:29Jason Stewart:The bartender at the dive bar would he would get your mail and he would hold your keys when you go out of town. And it was, you know, it was that that was it was beyond a third space. It was like a part of your actual home and are you in existence you're describing the hit television show cheers is what it sounds like to me no there's many such cases it's a very new no of course of course um but nowadays people are you know you go into a place and they're like what's the wi-fi password what are your upload speeds and they're like what the fuck you come here to not Wi-Fi. This episode of How Long Gone is brought to you by a new podcast from The Guardian stateside with Kai and Carter.

17:14This is covering a lot of our bases, Jason. It's trying to slow down the news and wrestle with the questions we all have about what's happening in the world. And I know you particularly have quite a lot of questions.

17:24Jason Stewart:A lot of questions, but how often? Because we do this podcast three times a week and that's a sweet spot. How many times do they do? Three times a week. And I have a feeling just based on the platform and these talking points that they're maybe going to be covering different stuff than we do. That's just a guess. The Guardian is not some billionaire owned platform. They're not afraid to say what they want to say, brother. Yeah. Rupert ain't sniffing around in what journalists Kai Wright and Carter Sherman are up to over there at Stateside. But yeah, listen, wherever you get your podcast, you can watch it on YouTube.

17:55It's three times a week. And who couldn't use more news, you know, especially, especially when it's, when it's not, you know, from here, let's say, give it, give it a, give it a listen, give it a listen. All right. This episode of How Long Gone is brought to you by Poshmark. Jason, I know you've used the site before. It's really easy way to shop. And it's, it's one of my favorite fashion resale marketplaces. I don't know if you're into brand names, you know, um, I can be depending on how I'm feeling, but we can, you want to talk Levi's, you want to talk Blundstone or you want to talk Chrome, you want to talk Prada, you want to talk Mimi, you want to talk Bottega, we got it all at Poshmark.

18:32And you can get the look for less, as they say.

18:36Jason Stewart:Yeah, I'm a big hunter. I like going on eBay and digging around and sometimes stuff isn't there. Same thing with Carol and my wife. She's a wardrobe stylist and she's like, you know, the real shit's on Poshmark. For the real heads that know, you can find those, you know, little grail pieces that you can't find anywhere else, some kind of archival stuff going on, but also, you know, the day-to-day regular kind of staples, like you're talking about some nice vintage Levi's, tons of them over at Poshmark. And, you know, when you're ready for a closet refresh, you can earn some real money selling the pieces that you're ready to part with, reaching more than 80 million users on the platform.

19:15Jason Stewart:I like that sound of that, Chris. What is there something that you're trying to track down on Poshmark specifically? I'm actually in the market for a new dop kit, a secondary dop kit. Backup dop. Probably LV to keep with my suite of products or maybe a Prada nylon because that's also very durable. Okay. I feel good about it, but because new deals and styles are listed every single day, so do not wait. Download the Poshmark app today. Use code HOWLONG when you sign up and get$10 off your first purchase. All right, Jason, this episode of How I'm Gone has brought you by Superpower. And I don't know about you, but I'm sick and damn tired of leaving the doctor's office feeling like I got no useful info from these buzzers.

19:59You put on the white coat, you sit down, you say a bunch of stuff, but it's nothing I can use. Maybe you told me you're fine, drink more water as if I could. I'm not leaving with no real data, no game plan, just a pat on the ass. And I'm sick and tired of it. And luckily, Jason's superpower is here to fix my problems.

20:20Jason Stewart:Yeah. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who really cares about inside of my body and all the diseases. And now, you know, the doctors, they've been gatekeeping this info and they don't really care about me that much. Their head is out of the game. They're thinking about golf. They're thinking about what they're going to have for dinner. I care. I want to go through all these tests, hundreds of data points here. and I'm ready to go in with my internet research and really find out what's going on with my body and how to fix it, how to help it. Because we don't know what's going on inside of our body.

20:52Jason Stewart:We don't know how much sleep we should be getting, what supplements we need, what foods we should be avoiding. And this info is all there thanks to science and technology. 21:31I think a big part of it also is probably the cashless movement. Like, because obviously you're making a much less money and it just feels like if i walk into a place like that i'm trying to pay with cash instinctually whereas a 26 year old is not ever trying to pay with cash instinctually unless they're buying even if they're buying drugs they're transferring bitcoin on signal or whatever

21:53Jason Stewart:yeah dive bars used to go there to cash your checks oh i've cashed a check bars would cash your check so you could spend all that money at the bar days to cash my check at the liquor store and little five points and go right to the bar with that. I mean, that was the ultimate. You put 40 aside for Coke. Boy, you sound like a damn John Cougar Mellencamp song right now. I mean, dude, I had my sleeves rolled up. My boots were dirty. I put the acoustic down. I put the mark down. I would do the same thing. I would get my little check from Anthropologie. I would go to the liquor store across the street from the Lab Anti Mall in Costa Mesa, get my little you know 471 dollars and then you know whatever 80 of that goes to parliament lights a rack of fucking bodding tins you know a bottle of something hard and then you know whatever is going in on the bag you know i need an e-pill that that's it's literally there was no luckily rent was so cheap that that was the third or fourth thing on the list you know that you're worried about paying you would pay your rent in cash i've paid rent in cash many many times yeah it's it's interesting it's an interesting thing to lament but it's it's also sort of like all signs point to this like most things that happen in this world that people want to write 20 000 words about it's sort of like this is kind of common sense as to where the world has been headed um but i'll pour one out even the drug dealers don't want cash anymore they're like it's like a whole thing can you just sell me it's so crazy it's so crazy to me that you would buy drugs like on venmo it's it's like it feels it feels wrong i mean i guess the bitcoin thing but that's so dorky i can't that's a bridge too far unless you're buying bulk yeah unless you're doing um you know some of that silk road fish scale there's no no reason or excuse to use did you um bitcoin there's a lot happening in the tech space this week well i don't know if you saw a selfie with zuck once well i want i wasn't even talking i we should get into that because i feel like it's um We will.

23:48I went to, I was invited by the Meta Corporation to go to this launch party of the new Meta Glasses. And Kylie's, of course, well, they had like, it's like 20.

24:00Jason Stewart:There's so many more silhouettes, but you know, she's the main, the main star so far. Yes. So I go to Chelsea. And it's, you know, of course, it's like as far as it possibly could be in Chelsea. And it's like an unmarked building with blue doors, you know, Facebook blue. and I walk in, they escort me over. There's like two sides. One feels like it's a little more public and then one feels a little less public. I go to the less public side and I didn't really know what to expect. I was just like, yeah, I want to check this out because I need to see this. This is interesting. And I walk in and it's sort of like, you know, it feels like a very, very nice hotel lobby with an insane sort of meta logo flower.

24:44creation a bouquet would it would not do it a botanical expression of the meta logo exactly it was the size of a fucking table i run into you know i run into several people i know a lot from you know a publishing media world but also like i know the guy who left apple to go work at meta to make these glasses so i saw him uh timmy was there he wasn't i don't think they look he didn't let them photograph him um he was off cycle just there to support but i did unfortunately see him wearing a New Yorker nowhere hat, which I hate to report that from, from, from ground zero. Do you really hate Chris?

25:20Well, he had the hood up for so long. I was like, all right, maybe, all right. He's just laying low that takes the hood off. I see why you're covering that up. You grabbed the wrong hat. You grabbed the wrong hat on the, on the way out of the fucking high rise. Even Timmy knew it. Even Timmy knew it. You know, I'll give him a pass. But so we're at this thing and I'm like, oh, this is like a party and you know, there's no, they don't have the, you know, it's not like some weird thing where the glasses are sitting out everywhere. It's literally just a party. It feels like any party we've, we've ever been to.

25:45Jason Stewart:Is there a bar? Is there alcohol? There's a bar. Yeah, there's, there's a bar. There's past, you know, there's many lobster rolls. You know, I, again, it's, it feels like every party I've ever been to, except the biggest star in the room is not Kylie Jenner. It's Zuck. Like you could feel that energy where Kylie's there. You know, Kylie's getting paid 20 million for this or whatever. She looks great. She's wearing the glasses. She's taking selfies. She's having fun. Corey Gamble, my hero from the kardashian clan was there but i was too nervous i was too nervous to dap him up um is that the one who's piping big mama that's right the goat the real goat of all this shit that he went he said y 'all can drake y 'all can fight over the daughters i'm going to the real boss i'm going to the the the mob i just i also cory gamble born in 1980 in atlanta georgia and And I love his Google profile.

26:38Jason Stewart:He's listed as a business executive. I bet much like Scott Disick, they're maligned in the public for being... But Scott Disick makes a fortune. I bet Corey Gamble low-key is beasting doing something. I'm not saying the Kardashian connection doesn't contribute to that. He was a tour manager for Bieber under Scooter Braun's tutelage. Never mind. I take it back, Queen. Dude, you're tour managing Bieber. That's one of the hardest jobs in the world. That's real shit. that's how you can handle all these chicks um but so we're at this party and and eva chin is there who i know and she's you know she's mentioned before she like i want to introduce you to mark i'm like yeah great let's let's fucking chop it up with mark i go i have a i have an eight minute conversation max with with zuckerberg and mel ottenberg and eva we take a picture and i go talk to other people and I leave, you know, and I'm sort of like, you know, I see all the stuff's going on.

27:35All the glasses are going on. It's, it's part of our world. Obviously I'm not a guy who's going to wear these. I'm not a, I'm not the target customer by any means, but I just, I feel like I went to this because I felt like this is a wild experience to have. And this is sort of my job. But then I was questioning, cause I have this funny selfie of me with, with zuck this funny selfie where i'm wearing the kylie sunglasses that and it's you know he's telling me about how the hinges work and shit or whatever what he told sunberg and i was like this is so fucking funny i think this is so funny and then after thinking about it more i i forget that people don't have like people think this guy is like evil they they put this guy on the level i think a lot of people put him on the level of elon musk it maybe i'm wrong but you're not wrong

28:25Jason Stewart:I mean, maybe not as severe as Elon because he seems to be a little more level-headed and he's able to speak like a human and he's not actively overdosing on ketamine in government buildings. But I think a lot of people are very upset with what Zuck has done to the internet landscape and some irreparable damage to humanity for his financial gain and power. but that's another pod because we're just taking a funny pick well no i mean i think that some of that is true and if it wasn't him it'd be somebody else kind of thing like i just don't i don't think that these i i think this tech stuff is not my under my purview necessarily but i think it's funny to i always find the irony when people are shitting on this guy on the platforms that he owns that and that you use every day all day this goes back to the bezos thing of course bezos is a bad guy but the percentage of you that have canceled your amazon prime subscription is minute i couldn't see it i couldn't see with fucking a magnifying glass yeah you don't like hail hitler but you're still wearing them yeezys but it's just like do i is it like i don't like this is one of the most interesting maybe interesting is wrong word but this is one of the this is a person who's affected our lives maybe more than anyone in in a lot of ways you know what i mean like negatively and positively like his his creations the thing that he's done that he's done are things that have affected the world and maybe the biggest way in like our lifetime for our generation and if i can't chop it up with that guy for five minutes like what what's the point like that's like i i mean you know it's like i don't i don't have any interest in talking to elon muster jeff bezos because that those those guys to me do seem bad and in a way that like it's a smell it's a smell test i just thought it was all really funny and interesting and like this is what we do on how long gone as we do stuff when we talk about it and then i was sort of like oh wow the response to this is actually crazier than i thought and of course these glasses all you know there's all these issues with this shit we're in a surveillance state bob you know i all that shit like i don't really care about that there's truth to it and and that that's just a fact you know but i think that like watching because he did the first interview i guess he's laid low for a while and he hadn't done any interviews so he did this interview for feed me he did the guest lecture series which she does which i've done before which is where people write in questions for the for the subject and she picks the questions from that lot and then the person answers them um so he did that and people are like you know there's there's a newsletter called status like we got a scoop you know mark zuckerberg dodges they don't ask him any hard questions over you know what i mean he does this softball and you know and it's like dude what like what do we think people are doing like what do we really like do you really think mark zuckerberg at this stage is going to do anything that is going to risk or put him at risk like do we really think he's going to go in and let anybody he's you think he's going to go just let anybody ask him whatever he wants i just don't like what's the reality of this i guess why are people so why are people so unable to see the reality of a situation and and not let that play into it i guess is my question yeah i think a lot lot of people who have issues with with zuck or any of these people who are being served softball questions they're thinking like oh well you know if i was there with this person whoever you know from zuck to olivia rodrigo whoever is being interviewed a lot this week if i was there i'd be asking them the real hard questions i'd be asking about this yeah but you know you're you're not and the reason why this person is asking any questions at all is because we've been vetted and we had a convo before that you know i'm going to talk about some stuff i'm not going to talk about other stuff and that goes across the board for anything for when wemby is being interviewed if he's going to you know work with a you know coca-cola he's like i don't i'm a basketball player let's talk about basketball i don't want to talk about this bullshit you're allowed to choose what you want to talk about when you want to talk about it and we need to know that there are differences between you know a courtroom fucking deposition interview and uh you know let's have fun and like talk about your favorite watch and stuff emily's newsletter is is not the new york times it's not 60 minutes no no i mean no pre-barry right it's not the guardian we're talking about more fun questions we're asking gwyneth paltrow about you know what her favorite whatever pajamas as are and we're asking somebody about makeup routines and whatever it's not like what are we going to do about well this is this is my whole issue though is that people think because you have a platform that you should be asking those questions and those are two different things like if you own the platform you choose the tone that you want to take that is your decision and and if you gain a large audience from that why on earth would you change your tone because of the person that's appearing that day you know it's like that's that's not what people are coming to for do i i don't i just think that if those questions are going to be asked they should be asked by somebody who has been covering whatever the tech world for 30 years for the new york times or the wall street journal or whatever and that is the conversation they will have i i just i'm i it's just so baffling to me that like that's what's expected all the time now and it's like i don't think anybody was asking whoa vicky hard questions you know like let's let's uh He's not fluent in English, so that one doesn't work out so well.

33:58Jason Stewart:No, I'm kidding. I think the main issue, and we'll talk about Lil Vic, I think people have a lot of issue when you have somebody like Azuc who, like we were saying, he's not Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos level of evil billionaire in the world, but he is a light version of that. He's the Coke Zero version of doing bad stuff. and to sort of have a fluffy, you know, superhumanizing, fun, little kind of chit-chat thing, your integrity could be taken into account because you're so willing to, or you so want to be talking to a famous person, whoever it may be, that you're willing to sort of, you know, flog them and fluff them and kind of jiggle the balls a little bit.

34:52Jason Stewart:Not that we're not guilty of the same thing. Well, this is what I'm getting at. It's like, obviously, part of the reason I went to this event is because we would like to have Mark Zuckerberg on How Long Gone. And that could happen. You know what I mean? That's not out of the question. That being said, we don't let people see questions. We don't do that. And I wouldn't do that for Mark Zuckerberg. Like I don't, it's not, it's not that important to me, but to shoot the shit with Zuck for the reasons that I outlined earlier, that's like what we, that's why we do this job. That's why we have this podcast.

35:25You know what I mean? Is like to talk to people like that about stuff that might seem innocuous or silly or stupid to people that want hard news. and that's just like that's what i guess i'm that's what i'm saying it's like once we started blurring those lines i think it became i mean it's partly because you know they think joe rogan you know influenced the election which he did to some extent but it's just like that's the part i get lost on is like all these guys do bad stuff but so do we they're just doing it at a very large scale yeah and that's why it's so damaging to society and you said the lines are blurred and

35:59Jason Stewart:they are but i feel like the our our job as you know funny interviewees or whatever media culture talking heads or whatever content creators you are you know there's a vast spectrum of topics and subject matters and things that you could tackle that are between you know what's your morning routine king or like you know what tell me about your favorite watch and then on the other side you know let's talk about teen suicide rates and you know cambridge analytica and you know misinformation spreading or whatever there's so much in between where you can kind of like find some real humanity learn some things about somebody maybe learn how they thought one way and they change their mind as they've gotten older you know i i feel like that with um like people used to ask us who is our dream guest and we don't really have a good answer i used to say kanye for a while not because i want to platform him not because i want to humanize him not because i want to attack him but because like wouldn't it be a good challenge as somebody who does this for a living you know somebody who interviews people and has conversations for a living to have a new conversation with somebody like this that doesn't involve you know the two spectrums that are so easy that doesn't involve like what's up with the hitler stuff and you know dude you're so awesome run away is a good song you know full glaze fest yeah there's an in-between and that's yeah let's figure out those other parts of zuck's brain that haven't been discovered that's your job as a journalist but i think that's the that's the term that is so scary and that's why i think this stuff has gotten so confused is now person who asks question with large audience is considered a journalist and i don't think those two things are necessarily the same i would never call myself a journalist i don't think you would either and i think that's it i'm a service journalist no i'm a role model that's a two that's but that's what i'm saying it's like because someone has a shitload of followers and eyeballs that doesn't make them a journalist that doesn't like we i think this goes back to like media literacy like we as the audience need to understand the difference between those two and expect one from one and expect the other from the other.

38:17You know what I mean? And that's the issue. I just felt a lot of, because I mean, to be completely honest with you and the audience, I also, before all this happened, I had an offer to do something with Meta Glasses that was pretty well paying. And I said, no, because I was like, that just doesn't feel like me. I wouldn't do that because I don't think I would wear these glasses and it doesn't feel like the right thing but going to meet mark zuckerberg and see the glass like see the new glasses and whatever like i don't what's the i just don't understand what the like emily asking about his favorite watch or us asking about his fucking you know what bones he's broken to an mma and the time he wore a face full of fucking sunscreen is like that's fine i got i just it's fine you know what i mean i just think it's fine yeah yeah i just think i I think it's all because these people, I mean, I just think, again, the word platforming, journalist, all these words have been totally misconstrued and applied to the wrong places.

39:14And it makes everything feel crazy. It makes everybody act insane.

39:19Jason Stewart:How much was the meta bag? I'll bleep it. I'm not. No, I'm not saying that. I don't trust you. Smart not to trust me. I don't trust you. I don't trust you. But again, I'm saying this as a guy who uses every meta service possible happily every single day of my life. I'm the guy who sells a Facebook account. I don't give a shit. That's not like this. And you've never used Marketplace once, just to be clear? No, never used Marketplace before. I just check it out, man. I just click around. That's my job. Use it to see how many kids my old high school fatties use. Exactly. Exactly. But I just think that everyone, and then we got this Can Lion stuff going on.

39:58And it's like, I got to watch a video of fucking Scott Galloway on a motorboat. in the south of france telling me how creators are taking over the world and it's just it's just sort of like man all of this stuff is so confusing and bad and it's just like i don't even know what i i barely know what to think like can lion is is something i don't care like no one has talked about this much ever like ever ever and it's and i hate to give scott credit but he's right it's because all these fucking content creators they're hosting panels for agencies and talking about themselves and their work and they're the ones documenting and they're the ones distributing it

40:36Jason Stewart:can line didn't have to do anything and can the film festival you know as a as a consumer who's you know stuck at home on the on the rowing machine looking at my phone all i'm seeing is okay here's a bunch of movies that i don't get to see because i'm not there and i'm probably never going to see because they're just like random you know foreign films that are whatever critic darlings you have a bunch of celebrities who are trying to actively hide from photos they don't they don't want to be there nobody's you know and then it's all about standing ovations for the 11th year in a row how they're getting longer it's boring nobody gives a fuck anymore and can lion we got fucking mumford and sons hopping up on the dj i mean i mean all that is i mean i'm joking but it's like the can is like it's become so exclusive that nobody even cares anymore it's just like okay great now there's this actor and he's going to take a photo and his movie you're never going to see got an ovation for 11.9 minutes and great and but then you go over to can lion here's all the people you know who actively want to be there they're sharing it they're talking about it and it's it's more of an inclusive thing and that maybe that's the problem no that's definitely exclusive that's definitely line is too inclusive That's totally the problem.

41:57But I also think that like, once again, people love to forget that we, for better or worse, live in a capitalist society. And if your job is to get sponsors to get eyeballs on this, this festival that you throw, then you are going to let Spotify do whatever the fuck they want, because Spotify is going to write you a check that numbs your eyeballs. Like it's just, that's just what it is, you know? And it's like, but I just, I just, it's really, it's, it's look, we live in a difficult time, I will say, because everything is sort of bad. but the only way to get through is to kind of think it's funny but some people don't accept

42:31Jason Stewart:that is kind of where my head's at yeah we've been laughing our way through life's pains for decades now at this point but we we talked about before how you know with with marty supreme how people are more interested in the marketing campaign and rollout than the actual film itself so it only makes sense that you know the marketing and advertising wing of can is becoming more popular and it's the same thing yeah all this stuff yeah it's like the dorks have taken over across the board the dorks have taken over and i think that is because the because now our i think our celebrities are fucking asshole basketball players like wimby or tech guys those are the celebrities now like of course there's actors and actresses and blah blah blah but the they don't have like an actor and actress can affect like foreign policy you know what i mean it's like that elon musk is literally in the white house doing a fucking bump a cat with his feet on the desk you know it's like that is that it's a different thing and that's why he's bad it's like it really affects something whereas like the the you know the the timothy chalamet woman getting in a fight with a non-binary french person outside of a hotel about connor's story like that's fucking funny but that doesn't affect our lives at all no there's no there's no downside to that there's no data scraping there's no fucking betting on everything that happens in our lives it's literally harmless to everyone and that's it's fascinating but that's i i think those are the that's kind of the binary we have now it's either like evil guys doing evil or the dumbest shit you've ever possibly seen that makes you laugh and you can't believe it exists what a great segue to talk about whoa vicky all right this episode of how long gone is brought to you by revolve i don't know if you've been paying attention jason but guys really be caring about how they dress and how they look luckily revolve man is on the internet super easy and it's stocked with some of our favorite brands like like ralph lauren and something maybe you like fear of god essentials as well as our friends palms of course and it's not fast fashion it's not stuffy it's a sweet spot between looking intentional and not looking like you tried too hard good luck uh new arrivals drop twice a week with free two-day shipping and next day options plus returns are actually easy yeah it's true and that two-day shipping really is nice it really does happen i've used it a few times and it is surprising how nice things show up and you get excited to try them on.

45:41You know, for some of us, summer is our favorite season. The sun is shining. You're taking road trips. You're in the ocean. You're in the pool. You're having maybe a cocktail. We're traveling. The kids are out of school they're down you know they're skipping rocks at the creek um but for others uh juggling all that summer fun can be tough counting down the minutes until the kids are back in school ain't healthy for anybody you can't waste the days of sunshine but more importantly you can't waste time worrying about if you're using the days of sunshine the best that you could jason yeah

46:11Jason Stewart:overthinking summer it happens to a lot of us workaholics out there or let's say you know you just you're about to go spend a lot of time on the beach at the pool and you don't want to be one of those guys that always has to pull their shirt down every time you lift your hands up or do a cannonball with a little therapy with our friends at better help we'll be able to you know fall do a tumble do a cartwheel without quickly pulling that shirt back down to cover your stomach with over 30 000 therapists better help is the world's largest online therapy platform serving over 6 million people globally and it works with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 based on 1.7 million client reviews.

I was talking to a friend of the show, Bryn Walner, yesterday, and she was saying if you look at your subscriptions, you could be living like me. That's what she was saying. She's saying if you use rocket money to find out which subscriptions you were paying for without your knowledge, then maybe you could be in Switzerland like me.

47:26You could be in Geneva. You could be at F1.

47:27Jason Stewart:Yeah, it does make sense. I think it really boils down to everyone knows it, but they just don't have the time. They don't want to do it. Everyone knows they can go clean all the clothes out of their closet, sell them, and then take that money and buy a dream vacation or a trip to Geneva or a new Rolex. But you just don't do it. You don't have the time. It's too much work. Luckily, nowadays, places like Rocket Money do it all for you. They're happy to do it for you. So then all that money that you're saving, we can turn that into truly whatever it is that you want. Just make sure that you're not just taking all that money and resubscribing to the same services that you didn't use before.

I need to shout out Mitchell, her publicist, because it's one of the most unbelievable runs I've ever seen. Like, whoa, Vicky doing a fucking English as second language level poetry reading in like a dime square bubble from five years ago, getting the most amazing press.

48:42And I do think I understand why she is captivating to people. Like in some regard, like her, her story is pretty crazy. I don't know what poetry has to do with that, but everybody has to find their medium.

48:52Jason Stewart:So, so this is a testament to her good PR as to why we have so many, you know, think pieces and cover stories in major publications about how this, like you said, an ESL person who just tweets about how gay people are wrong in the eyes of God, you know, has a poetry reading full of gay guys. Yeah, I don't. Yeah, and this is getting more coverage than, you know, Clive Davis passing away. It's just internet shit. Like, she's been on the internet for a long time. We've seen a lot of ups and downs. And now she's a Christian who has poetry, but she's still a thought. It's confusing. But yeah, I mean, you know, it's like a lot of people are glazing, you know, and I'm sort of like, obviously, again, this is a low stakes thing, but it is pretty surprising.

49:40It is pretty surprising to see this in Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone and all of these publications. But again, if the battle is for eyeballs, Woe Vicky has those and that's what we all need.

49:51Jason Stewart:Yeah, and I forgot who else was talking about this, but maybe it was a podcast. I remember, sorry, if I'm talking about it and I didn't shout you out, but about how these sort of niche-ish Twitter or social media celebrities, these people that you have maybe been following for years. you know and like whoa vicky has you know a hundred thousand something followers she's not huge but she's been on twitter for you know 10 years writing this bullshit and yeah this person was saying like if you see somebody like that or even a more niche person some random person with 5 000 followers whose tweets you've been following for 10 years versus like a true celebrity in public you're going to be more captivated by that niche twitter celebrity just because they're a part of you yeah and what you're doing and you and you sit there and you look at their social media engagement and you wonder how is it you know what you know people are like is this person just like an idiot savant like a little b kind of person where like yes they're really bad people but every 17th tweet is just like pure poetry just like amazing soup something really funny or really wry or or just like whatever it is or do they have you know a team of gay guy interns who are writing all these really funny tweets are this are the typos intentional or i believe i believe in this case that whoa vicky is authentic i think she's doing this herself i think the typos are because she don't type good i i actually believe all of that to be true but i think you make a great point it's like for a certain kind of person whoa vicky seeing whoa vicky buying you know fake chanel bags on canal street is bigger than seeing dicaprio bellying up to the bar you know what i mean because because she feels like a real person because she's existed in their lives on a screen that feels more real than the the movie or television if i if i'm walking on the street on the left side Ayo a debris from the bear and on the right side of the street Amanda Bynes I'm looking at Bynes I'm more I'm clocking Bynes that's but it is a really that's no slight to Ayo friend of the show that no that's a good point though it really is it's like that really is what it comes down to that these people like someone like this especially if you're like a logged on you know Tumblr shorty this person has been famous since your brain was developing and so to see be able to go see them somewhere free of charge you know read their poetry or whatever it is there's a level of starstruck that is maybe undeserved but still that you can't you can't say that like that that experience is is uh exclusive to everyone you know the same way if i saw you know if i see fucking you know the singer from the jayhawks at the fucking coffee shop most people don't give a shit but chris does we all have our whoa vickies yeah you said there go Brendan Flowers from a band called The Killers.

52:47Jason Stewart:When's Brendan coming on the pod, by the way? Solo album out soon? Dude, I've had the solo album for like a month now, and it is really up my street. It's good. We're working on it, hopefully. Fingers crossed. I mean, I've been trying to... Brendan Flowers has been a since day one project for us. Well, for me. I won't throw you under the bus with me, but... I'm here for you. New single comes out. There's a lot of... I feel like the wife of the husband who's really into fishing and we were going to go on the fishing trip together. It's not for me, but I still get pleasure out of it seeing you have such a good time.

53:21There's a lot of good. We get a new Phoebe Bridgers song tomorrow. We get a new Brandon Flowers song tomorrow. There's all kinds of new shit. We got Chanel beads. We got all kinds of new shit coming out, bro. We're about to be eating, actually.

53:37Jason Stewart:Beed? What is this somebody called who makes beads? What do you mean? You know, like a beadsman. you're talking about me when i was 14 i'm trying to come up with a stand name for chanel beads listen oh oh oh oh oh like how uh like how somebody called army hammer you know hammerheads are gonna eat this summer or whatever or racist i see what you're saying i just want there to be a good name for the chanel beads stand let me think about this let's let's let's let's come back and do this yeah damn there's a new yeah the new brennan weedle came out the new blonde shell came out there's new this is lorelei coming out it's really it's guitar season is real bro okay a bead maker or a person who's crafting with beads is typically called a beader so all right put on your wife little on the nose we're going to see that we're going to see the show so yeah those are going to eat this june slash july got chanel beaters that's our that's a that's our discord group and speaking of chanel thank god none of these luxury fashion brands flew me out to Paris this week because boy does it look hot out there.

54:40Jason Stewart:Shout out to all of our friends who are wearing shorts in public for the first time. If I see one more person posting a screenshot of the weather when they don't need to be there for any business, unless you are getting paid to be there, you can't post about the weather. No, you can't post about the weather. It's too many. Honestly, my timeline is unbelievable. I did see someone today, though, posting how much it would cost to leave early on Delta One on their close friends, which I did like. He knows who he is. He's not listening to this, but he knows who he is, and it was very funny. But yeah, I mean, I think it's 104 degrees in Paris, and you went there to go to parties, and now you're like, damn.

55:17Jason Stewart:It's like 104 degrees. What are we going to do? Let's go eat some duck fat steak. I would love to stand in the street for four hours. Yeah, I mean, when you really think about it, it's like when you see what the models are having to wear in this heat, that's who I really feel for. All of the plastic jeans that are meant to look synthetic, all of the Loewe textured latexes, that's tough. To be fair, though, the fellas are probably eating out there because you know these chicks ain't wearing much. You know what I mean? If you're a fella, put on your jorts and your fucking wife beater and sit outside the Emily Dawn Long showroom and just let them come to you, bro.

55:55You ain't got to do nothing.

55:56Jason Stewart:Well, you said the jorts and the wife, Peter, but there seems to be a bit of a protest from the fellas who are saying like, we are in sundress season across most of the globe, but all of the shorties are literally wearing denim shorts from Walmart and a tasteful whatever, Haley Williams tea or something like that. you know so so the fellas are not eating and this is going to drive more pornography use ladies get those sundresses this is you can put shorts on under the sundress like you're in black pink or something what if i what if i said to you what if i but what if maybe this is something this is more sinister is this to me this could be a sign that tits are back you know what i mean because in it with with the jorts or the basketball shorts or the lacrosse shorts or the adidas soccer shorts, usually those are paired with some sort of see-through top.

56:54You know what I mean? Whereas the sundress, to me, always felt like something that was accentuating the rear end a little more.

57:01Jason Stewart:Wow. Can you tell which one of us is from Atlanta? No, I'm sheeing. Okay, so what you're saying is, I mean, wishful thinking. I think you have a good attitude and a positive. I'm trying to spin it. I'm trying to spin it. It's a silver lining on a JNCO cloud. but you're saying we're bullish on the breast we're bullish on breast after years of ass after years of ass I think it's at least we're reaching a more equilibrium you know we're reaching more equal point I would say it's Juicy J's memoir title after years of ass actually not him he a faker but you know real ass cutter Lamar Odom yeah something like that I also wanted to yeah so ladies you know if we're gonna do the jorts on the bottom give the fellas a little something up top.

57:47Yeah, that's all. That's all. That's all. Especially when it's hot outside. It's better for you. It's better for us.

57:51Jason Stewart:It doesn't have to be a Skims nipple shirt. No. It doesn't have to be just like a full mesh. It doesn't have to just be an upside down bikini so the titties look sideways. You don't have to go that far. But just don't have it Billie Eilish on top. Just don't go Billie Eilish on top. Whatever you do, don't do the Hermes scarf tied as a top. Nothing worse than that. Don't get the Rough Riders 3XL tee, okay? You got to pick one. Funny Twilight tea, nothing. You know, I want to say the vintage T-shirt community is also eating because Zendaya wore vintage Spider-Man tea and nothing else on the red carpet with the lubes.

58:28Period. So I want to shout out.

58:29Jason Stewart:I just love Chris Black saying a vintage Spider-Man tea. I'm just glad that, look, Westside. For a fashion credit. Unfortunately, I did see Westside Gunn is doing a Saucony or a Brooks running shoe that is Spider-Man themed, which that doesn't. doesn't i don't love that uh but the the zendaya big shirt is doing a spider-man shoe spider-man look it up look it up oh i don't know these joints kind of hard though they got a there's a scorpion on the back spider-man is only in quotes it is not official spider-man here but they're not no what you know west side gun ain't paying for the ip the spider-man ip ain't going up to buffalo but i not to be confused with rapper webby zendaya looked beautiful in the t-shirt i honestly thought it was a very cool i like when people this is happening more and more now that you know obviously like the stylist is going to find the vintage thing that relates to the film or the tv show and i think it's cool i think it's i mean it's more interesting your man it's just more interesting than like oh here's another um full look from xyz designer you know what i mean like it's it's a little it's a little more fun is this law roach yeah this is law from the mind of law are we coming Luxury Law was at the meta thing, as you can imagine.

59:44Jason Stewart:I can just imagine the fucking cunt off that you two must have had. I didn't. Like going to hold the door open for him and then letting go of it at the last minute. Oops. Oh, no. I didn't even ask him which flat iron he uses. I kept it to myself. I kept it pressing when Law was in my orbit. Did you catch the name of the horse who grew this hair for you, honey? It looks beautiful. I'll say that. But yeah, the vintage t-shirt. but I mean yeah dude it's hot in Paris and don't jump in the river this is when the conversation comes up once again of like you know oh air conditioning so bad it's American you guys are fat blah blah blah yeah I bet you I bet right now you wish you could fucking put down that corked Barolo and get in some fucking AC that's what I'm saying that's what I'm saying now speaking of Paris Fashion Week let's talk about Pharrell's red vans look i say this all the time there are probably five shoe silhouettes that are the baseline of shoes and everything else has vans authentics or eras converse chuck taylor jack purcell new balance 990 993 and air force one obviously maybe we'll do a wallaby clark in there yeah a clark yeah that's not technically a sneaker but a wallaby is definitely you know so it's like i This is what designers have done for decades.

1:01:09The Celine shoe that everybody's freaking out about is a fucking repeto. You know what I mean? Pharrell doing his version of a Vans and Vans having fun with it on social media, that's just great for everybody.

1:01:21Jason Stewart:I even got an email from Converse yesterday with Red Low Top All Stars just being like, we also have Red Shoes. I just think people maybe don't realize that Pharrell doing this is an homage to Vans and van sales are probably 10x since this shoe came out. So it's like everybody, if you can't afford the vans, which most people can't, or excuse me, if you can't afford the LV, then you go get the vans. I don't know. I just think it's, I don't see an issue here really. And that was, I will say, the clothes don't do anything for me, but that was one of the coolest fashion show sets I've ever seen. Yeah.

1:01:58Jason Stewart:Unreal. That seems to be the opinion of every single person in the world. Unreal. um yeah the the beautiful set you know i would say if apple take note that's a it was a great job but the clothes just look like golf wang for older people yeah for sure which is fine i mean i think that's not bad not bad yeah that's that manageable but i think that the um tyler hit first but i i do think it's interesting that he premieres music during the show and it's really it's it's crazy because it feels like a real sign of like the the sort of how dormant hip-hop is. It's like he premiered, I think, three new songs that he produced, one with Quavo, one with Lil Baby, and maybe one with someone else, and I haven't heard anybody talk about it at all.

1:02:41Like that is not part of the conversation at all.

1:02:43Jason Stewart:I didn't even know that happened at all. And also, if I own Louis Vuitton, am I like, you're like using the company platform a little too much? Well, that's why they hired him. They're happy to gain access to this throwaway Quavo song that no one's ever going to listen to. versus, you know, whatever, I'm going to do this really ethereal techno mix. Yeah, I mean, I would rather hear that. My model's stomping. Like, unless you get the goat, unless you get somebody really, you know, I don't need to hear the Fred again soundtrack, but that's another conversation. But like, you know, if you can get the goat to do the soundtrack and it's ethereal fucking dance music, cool.

1:03:20But if you have Pharrell at your fingertip, one of the greatest ever living producers, you got to let him take his shot, no matter what. Like, who cares?

1:03:28Jason Stewart:I mean, I guess. but I mean do you do that for Jay-Z as well or do you say like hey maybe you play fucking grinding instead play one of your good ones instead of the new one with fucking party next door and you know don't come from P &D bro don't come from P &D like that you know the song of the summer what they're saying that new young Miami spend that D-A-T if you haven't heard this This and Shebang are going head-to-head in the streets for Song of the Summer. I told you Shebang is the one, not your little Janice. I think Janice numbers are actually bigger, but I think Shebang is more of a cultural movement.

1:04:10Jason Stewart:I'll take movement over numbers. Spin that, though. I got motion. It's for the scammers and get-money bitches, so you'll like it. That's sort of how I think of you. Yeah, and it's apparently in conjunction somehow with four shooters only. So, okay. Is that a producer or is that just a movement? You know, I'm gonna guess it's probably a t-shirt line for drug dealers. Okay, well that could also be a producer. You know what I mean? Like they could do all. I also, I don't know if you saw this, but I think it might finally be time for me to purchase a guitar. Who's going to play it? Johnny Marr Auction.

1:04:52Oh. 100 Guitars.

1:04:54Jason Stewart:Oh. Like shit like I wrote the queen is dead on this shit. That one I'm not going to be able to afford, of course. Okay, the Johnny Marr collection. So you're saying you might be able to pull up and get a cheaper one? I could get an Epiphone. I could get a hollow body, something light. I can get you an Epiphone today for$12 ,500. You can drive off the lot today in the Epiphone. No capo included, but we can get you out of here. We got the Rickenbacker 60 to 80. What do we got for like five? We got anything for five? okay we got the uh the hollow body es 355 that one she going one to 150 that's a juicy little i mean that's that's a guitar that's gonna go high regardless of the mar uh okay we got an ugly kind of green telly 20 to 30 we got a gibson acoustic 20 to it doesn't look like it's going under 20 to 30 okay okay that's fine you can get the epiphone casino for 20 okay so i gotta put a little i gotta put a little group together to buy in on one of these things wait wait wait we got a fender okay well this one is eight to twelve okay looks pretty nice it's a little um kind of dijon jaguar oh but it's priced like made in mexico we're gonna have to i don't want to get two in the weeds and then also we've got um another jaguar this one's kind of a cream colored sparkle and that is eight to twelve thousand i sent that to you either of those would look handsome of the samsung flat screen i think i would go dijon if i had a gun to my head this is yeah it's such an interesting i i mean johnny mar definitely doesn't need money i feel like he i feel like he might much like no i think he might be in my position where his wife is like he sells 80 guitars for an average of 40 grand each like you know that's a tidy little sam yeah Yeah, but I'm saying I think this is the kind of shit where his wife is like, all right, bro, you got 200.

1:06:52We got to get rid of 100. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, this shit has taken over your life. Like, it's OD. You're 70. Like, what are we doing?

1:06:59Jason Stewart:Yeah, the kids need school. It's crazy there's no amps because I would have definitely. A little fender. Oh, one of those little guys that you have to use the DI for? That'd be nice as like a little side table. Chris, don't be talking about a little DI box. A little fender twin? A little fender twin as a side table? A little fender twin. All right. Well, lastly, because of the musical connection, I wanted to talk about Taylor Swift, the wedding. People are mad that she's getting married in New York City on the 4th of July. I still think that's interference. Plogging up the streets. But also, doesn't everyone leave New York on the 4th of July?

1:07:38I mean, it's one of those classic cases where, like, everyone that lives there leaves or wants to leave, but everyone else comes. You know what I mean?

1:07:45Jason Stewart:that so it's how many people you know when everyone is like this wedding is inconveniencing me for whatever reason it is like why is this happening like the i remember the game five of the of the knicks um finals there was like weddings a bunch of weddings that weekend and people were like having to decide between going to their like cousin's wedding or watching game five at a at a b-dubs is there are there going to be a lot of people in new york who are like i was really planning on going to turks and cake maldives or just the hamptons this weekend and now i got to stick around in the city on the fucking fourth of july like a plebeian you know is that going through some of these folks's brains i still think this is all an interference i all i still think this is completely she's getting married in rhode island and maybe there's a party or something i i know that she is a swiss cheese brain but getting married at madison square garden is one of the corniest things a human being i i have to give her more credit than that i have to until it's true i have to believe it that is not yeah but also what's what's worse getting married in msg or faking that you're getting married as like a psych out to the public to do a crazy well i actually i don't think it's i don't think it's necessarily a I think it'll get used.

1:09:04Maybe she's having a concert for the wedding party and all. You know what I mean? She's got fucking...

1:09:08Jason Stewart:What if that was where they had the viewing party, like where San Antonio all goes to the stadium even though the game's in New York? I could see it being like Antonoff and the fucking bleachers band and everybody gets up and sings a song situation. If you're Taylor Swift, you can't do that at Electric Lady. You got too many people for that. And happy birthday Rachel Antonoff. Heard it was a great great fiesta yeah um anyway shout out to all those cookie kids congrats on your marriage and uh r.i.p to big mama trash can the jp morgan employee who was fired apparently i heard that she was like somebody said she was she worked at the infatuation and then after they are acquired yeah they twisted it to be her she's a jp morgan executive she looks she looks like she works at the infatuation if you know what i'm saying um what's your beat grilled cheeses got it mostly just empanadas actually just cheese empanadas do you remember when do you remember macaroni and cheese was peaking that was kind of my thing the bacon one especially i kind of was on the front lines of that movement i wrote a book about bacon macaroni and cheese food trucks 2007 it got a little buzz r.i.p also to clive davis the legend problematic legend who came out is by at 80 and thank you to everyone who sent me that and said ha ha ha you know referencing that that's my future so that's that's your equivalent of when people are like yo jeff bezos didn't he didn't get he was poor until 43 you still got plenty of time or whatever you know like yeah this athlete didn't go pro yeah maybe i do have time to clive didn't start sucking until he was 80 so you got it you still got a chance big bro he didn't start he didn't admit to start sucking until he was 80 when he needed a little that's true you know a little compassion going his way remember when we saw remember when we went to that he should have he should it's good that he's dead not to be a hater we were at la dolce vita in beverly hills me you paulie and al i think when that restaurant opened guess who had to bring their dog to a sexy little italian restaurant we saw Clive struggling through that restaurant and I was starstruck.

1:11:20I really was. He had like a walker and a couple people with him and a little tiny dog at a Beverly Hills Italian restaurant at 10pm and I was like, only Clive could do that. Only Clive could do that.

1:11:31Jason Stewart:Only Clive can do it. Rest in piss, CD. Rest in piss. Alright, thank you guys for listening. HowLongGone.com is the website and we'll talk to you next week.
