In short
Episode 986 features Brennan Wedl, an alt/americana musician with a new self-titled album releasing “Friday” (said to be “today”). The hosts open with wedding-DJ talk, then pivot into granola/consumer-marketing jokes, a New York Times “loser” dating/matchmaking discussion, and astrology/spirituality banter. Brennan discusses her everyday-carry crystal, astrology via Chani Nicholas (humanistic astrology; whole sign vs Placidus), and how cosmic trends affect her mental state. She shares tour and music-industry details: she’s hitting Americana Fest in Nashville with Amy Grant as headliner, then touring with Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy (the “snail mommy” tour). She talks about routing logistics (van vs flying), brand deals (she was approached by Hey Dude/Jelly Roll’s line but passed after consulting management), and a Minneapolis show where her first guitar teacher attended.
Notable examples
Okie Doki Brothers (Grammy-winning children’s folk; nature-based songs; snail logo) and Donaldson Strike and Spare bowling (used for an interview).
Key claims
matchmakers can’t fix “soul,” granola is “basically candy,” and tour life reveals people’s sides.

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Jason, we're at the age where we've attended a lot of weddings, not only our own, but friends, family, etc., etc. And the through line, unless they hire you, is shitty music.
0:10Jason Stewart:Yeah, the cross-section of people who can DJ a wedding well and people who are cool, very small. So much that you'd have to throw a dart at a dartboard and hit a bullseye just to find them. And luckily we did, Chris. Thank God. And Dart works with actual musicians and artists, many of whom have their own careers and tour in bands like Leon Bridges, Taylor Swift, The Dare, Sabrina Carpenter. I could go on and on. Dart DJs use vinyl and are cool in a way that your friends would be, not in a dated Vegas performer type of way. And they have an in-house stylist so they don't show up looking like shit.
0:46Shout out to Pete for that one.
0:47Jason Stewart:Dart can do intimate stuff to huge celebrity events as well. Hiring Dart feels like hiring your very talented friend who happens to be a DJ. Dart is for people who actually like music with 14 years in the biz. Tons of experience. I've worked with them. Highly recommended. So if you are getting married or you have any type of cool event going on and you need a good DJ, they got you. Hubs in LA, SF, Austin, New York, Chicago, all over the place. dart like throwing a dart dash collective.com that's d-a-r-t dash c-o-l-l-e-c-t-i-v-e.com email michael at dart-collective.com and tell him that chris and jason from how long gone sent you
1:47how long gone uh it is chris black a beautiful sunny morning here in new york city them jeans your final hours at the idyllic sea ranch are you feeling centered i'm feeling as centered as
2:00Jason Stewart:somebody who could be podcasting at 6 45 a.m but yeah i'm feeling good my body has has relaxed and unclenched um i think i slept on on the floor last night for a few hours i'm sorry what we were we were just like watching tv and i put some uh i just put a couple beach towels down on the on the carpet floor in the living room you know sometimes the the the floor is more comfortable than the bed in like a yeah yeah in an adjusty kind of way if you hit it just right you know what i mean i brought i brought a yoga block and a little lacrosse ball so i was rolling around you know jesus christ man getting in there wow you gotta no you gotta get in there i guess i guess car travel well you you hold on sorry you flew with a yoga block and a lacrosse ball yeah wow i always fly with a ball yeah the ball the no of course the ball don't take up no space the ball that's half of one of your little tom brown socks or whatever the but the the yoga block in my defense it's the it's a the foam one so it's it's lighter it does take up a little chunk of space in the suitcase but you know i'm i'm over here in seawrench i'm wearing uh i'm wearing t-shirts and shorts sure you don't need you don't need a lot of clothing i understand yeah the formal wear was left at home all the trenches were at home the my my black fleece the row patagonia half zip left that one at home yeah i saw that i saw that going viral the 1850 yeah we were walking carol and and I were walking yesterday.
3:31Jason Stewart:She's like, I really want to get like a thin black like fleece kind of thing. I think it could be the vibe. And I was like, oh yeah, this one, this one, this one. She's like, no, maybe one like by the row. And I was like, very funny. And then four hours later, 1850. I mean, look, prices are prices. If people are willing to pay, what are you supposed to do? It's a great piece. It's cute. You know, what are you supposed to do? I'm literally wearing the Patagonia version of it right now. Mine's vintage, of course. I can't wear the snap tee. It doesn't look good on me. I don't know what it is. I love it.
3:59It's a classic piece of American clothing, but I can't do it. I've tried a million times.
4:04Jason Stewart:Maybe just focusing more on the legs or something like that? Is there a way that you can build out the traps and have the snap tee dance on the body a little bit better? I don't know. Something about it doesn't work for me. I think I tried, and I've put the idea... Are you impure of heart? Well, definitely that. No question on that, but I've tried. I've tried, but I was talking to you earlier about, because I think that I saw that the grocery store granola brand, Purely Elizabeth. That name is so funny. They opened for soul coughing in 94. It's very soul coughing, like coffee house, serious XMU vibe.
4:47Purely Elizabeth. Do you have to say it in the John Early voice? $850 million. Okay. And look, I know that purely Elizabeth has branched out beyond Fat Boy Granola and into other. They have several other. They probably have oatmeal that you can heat up in the. Oh, yeah. They have a lot more skews now. They have hella skews. But I was like, damn, it's really. I don't know, man. I thought that we all knew. Maybe it's impossible for us to resist. But we all know that granola is just basically candy. It's bad for you. But it tastes so good. which I love granola. There's no question.
5:24Jason Stewart:You know what else sells for$850 million? Candy. Of course, but candy has never been marketed to us in any other way except it's bad, but it's good. I agree with you 100%, and Elizabeth has always been sneaking those calories in over the years and disguising it as a health food. But I think now a lot of these companies straight up are pivoting to consumer needs. They're lowering sugar, lowering calories, increasing protein, lowering weird ingredients with names you can't pronounce. I think it's a trend that's really happening. And I'm sure Liz has a fucking instant oatmeal protein blaster fucking acai berry crisp shit or whatever.
6:09Jason Stewart:Of course, of course. But that's not why people are buying. They ain't paying$8.50 for that. They're paying$8.50 for the granola in the bags. That shit is moving units. And that's like Costco granola. That's like what my mom would buy thinking it's like the healthy version to put in her Activia yogurt. You know, it's like the same. It's really that vibe. Don't bring Activia into this. I'm sorry. You're right. But it is funny. That's too far. It is funny because you hear about all these consumer products like this, just these little like, oh, I started a chocolate company and now it's sold for$8 billion.
6:41Jason Stewart:You know what I mean? Whatever it is. And I think it's like a, it feels like a bubble. like it feels very ai bubble or you know tech bubble because if you if you're like oh i developed this like software company and we got all these angels and you know y combinator picked this up and we're we're we're evaluated we got we sold for 850 million dollars we're like what the fuck what are you doing building spaceships that makes more sense to me that makes more sense i know i know for 850 that makes more sense to me but then you're like granola who who sees the value year over year of this granola company to where you're going to spend that.
7:19Jason Stewart:I mean, that's some serious coin, but I guess in 2026, $850 million is nothing, right? I mean, there must be a roadmap that we're not privy to. Of course. And don't get me wrong. When I've had the Pure Elizabeth product, it's good. I mean, I'm not shitting on it. As far as grocery store granola goes, you can get that shit in Kroger or Publix or Ralph's. It's banging. It tastes good. Mostly because it's bad for you, but whatever. Mr. Nature Valley is over here like, what did I do wrong? Nature Valley is over here like the guy that wrote the 41st Dates article on the New York Times. Dog, Nature Valley is like, if we weren't.
7:54Jason Stewart:I've been on the shelf for a while now. If we didn't have that crumb, they never figured out the crumb problem, bro. If they would have figured out the crumb. No, it's a feature, not a bug, Chris. No, that's a bug. Unless you're crushing it up to put in yogurt, it's a bug. Bro, it's all over the floor. Like, it cannot be contained. that is user error i saw the dates article about this loser who can't get a date how many how much how much did he spend on 40 first dates 65 000 over nine years pause for covid during that period and then 40 yeah i think 40 dates nah bro you're like it's it's crazy to come out publicly in the newspaper of record as a loser like that's a crazy that's just a crazy move to be like i know they're putting spin on it.
8:40He's trying to find love. Hopefully, he'll have an eventual good ending, but low key, that writer is trolling you because they're like, I found the biggest loser in New York, and I get to interview him about how he can't find love. I'm hearing people say he can't find love because he's a Republican, but I know plenty of Republicans who have found love.
8:57Jason Stewart:Yeah, I think the problem is if you're, he's a Republican, but he's also a pussy is the problem. If you are a woman, you're a powerful woman looking for a powerful man who makes a lot of money has good sperm etc etc this guy's five six and he he likes celine dion in a non creepy way like in a way that scares the host you know what i mean like if you're hanging out with shep and you're like we're gonna go see celine dion you probably wouldn't want to go to that right shep he's like what i love celine dion she's awesome they're gonna be like awesome that's great and then this guy's like i bought you two tickets to the show um the celine dion show that's in toronto in 2028 would you like to go she's my favorite singer pussy done dried up no this guy's it's it's it's honestly crazy but i guess i mean who knows maybe this maybe the love of his life will be in the comments of the new york times.com saying you're not a loser you just need to you haven't met the right one yet well that's the problem he's not a loser because he's like a rich guy who lives in manhattan you can be a loser there's a lot of loser rich guys in manhattan i know a lot of them personally now now we're now we're splitting hairs and debating the true definition of being a loser.
10:04Jason Stewart:But I would say he's more... Jason. He's better classified as a hoe scarier intrinsically in his core, in his bone marrow. Hiring... Hiring... And it's his mom's fault. Hiring a fucking matchmaker is baseline loser shit. Like that is the... Like hiring some ugly chick who's annoying as fuck who married a loser just to say she's married basically and then she's gonna find it's just all it's all downhill it's all pathetic i know but like he's he's like an he he has a he's 38 works at some crazy ai business he's he travels to europe every week he's probably delta one okay all this shit so what so what i'm saying these are things these are things that are checking you in the less of a loser category see that's what you think but loser is a is a it's come from it comes from inside jason you're looking at the outside you're looking at the accoutrement i'm looking on the surface level where it's financial based i'm putting too many eggs in the financial basket i know it's not all about his soul you know success and he has the soul of a loser and that's something that you it's really tough to shake that like i i might not be that financially successful or successful at all but i know i don't have the soul of a loser and that helps me sleep at night i've got a lot of problems and a lot of hang-ups and i've made a lot of mistakes but waking up every day looking in the mirror and being like, look, at least you're not a loser.
11:30That keeps you going. That's an engine.
11:33Jason Stewart:I guess it's funny because I looked up the technical definition of loser and it's just a person. In the world of dating, it is on the dot. A person or a thing that loses, especially consistently. And he is losing. He's losing at hoes. He's losing at hoes. Everything else is good. He put too many eggs in his success basket, in his Celine Dion basket, his piano recital basket. This is what these guys try to do. They're like, I've just spent so much time grinding. I haven't had time to find the blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And it's like, dude, no, man, it's your soul. They can tell. They can tell.
12:14L-O-S-E-R. They see it. Print it on that shit.
12:17Jason Stewart:Anyway, if you're the guy who they wrote this article about and you want to come on the show, we would love to give you some I don't want to talk to this fucking guy I learned everything about this guy I needed to know from that story instead don't come on the show just contact me you're paying this person$25 ,000 I think for 6 months 25 grand and they guarantee the matchmaker woman she's on vacation in Greece FaceTime just imagine what she says to her husband right before she has to stop eating a feta salad by the water to go talk to this guy for an hour, and he's like, I don't know what's happening.
12:57Jason Stewart:I want to have kids by now. I hate this guy. All right, we have a guest today. Brennan Wadell has a new album coming out. Actually, this is perfectly timed. It comes out Friday, self-titled. Damn, that's today. That's today. We've spent some time together, so I think she knows what she's getting into, or at least I hope she knows what she's getting into. But let's give her a ring, Jason. Let's give B-Wed a ring. Think of it as a place guys who care about how they look go to shop. You know, Jason, we're men. We avoid the doctor because we're immature and pathetic. But when I do go, I feel like I leave with less information than I went in with. They look at me. They see that I'm healthy. They say, you're fine. They tell me to drink more water.
15:32I said, not possible. Maybe they wouldn't order the testing that I want. They don't want to go the extra mile, Jason. I don't get the data. I don't get the game plan. just to see you next year, jiggle your nuts, and then we're out the door.
15:43Jason Stewart:Which is why I love Superpower. It's one simple blood draw that gives you information on over 100 of your blood biomarkers. She's got her AirPods in.
16:57Ready to rock and roll. I got my crystal, too.
16:59Jason Stewart:Okay. What a great way to start today's episode by showing your everyday carry crystal. All right. That's a small crystal. I don't even know what to compare. What would you compare that to size-wise? Because it is portable. I'd say this is like two Tootsie Rolls. Okay. Bumped together. So if you were to take two Tootsie Rolls, cylindrical rectangular shapes, put them into a square. And that's pretty much it. for our listeners at home yeah she put the hand behind her crystal so we could see it in a gen z kind of way and this crystal i'm assuming it's charged up with powers that we are unable to okay let's hear all about it so you guys might know about this but last week was an astrology circus circus in the sky they say you're supposed to you saying this this was the damn uh this is the damn Lollapalooza of astrology last week.
17:58And it's crazy that that was last week too because those cosmic energies, they can be crazy. You don't want to charge your crystals under a crazy moon. And last week was a crazy moon. Hold on, hold on, Brennan. I'm sorry. I've heard people say their crystals are charged and I know that meant they weren't plugging it into the wall with a USB-C, of course. But you're saying that do you actually physically sit the crystal out under the moon for it to gain charge, or does it naturally gain charge?
18:27Jason Stewart:What if Florence and the Machine were headlining Lollapalooza? Would that have been a different story? There would have been some rituals happening, whether you knew it or not. Yeah, yeah. Different magics would be happening. Magic spelled with a K, I'm assuming. You know, yes. We've all seen, Chris and I, we've been around some blue-haired pussy before. We know what time it is. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Yeah, you think we don't know? We don't like it, but we know about it. The Septim Ring girlies will tell you all about this. Yeah, yeah. Septum girlies. Chris and I both have had spells cast on us.
18:59Jason Stewart:Oh, for sure. Well, if another one comes around, you know who to call. I know all about magic. I didn't know. Good to know. We have a friend on our side now. Thank you. So last week was tough. Did you feel the reverberations of this sort of tipsy-turvy moon stuff, even though you had your powerful crystals surrounding you? I was just trying to bear witness to it all. Okay. You know, I'm sure I'm sure for the whole week you self isolated in the basement, your friends, you told your friends, if I if I if I scream, don't listen to me. I'm going to be exercising. Yeah, it's if I tell you to unlock the basement, don't do it.
19:38Don't come down there. I when these cosmic things happen my own mental illness gets a little worse just because I'm like okay oh my god all these girlies on tiktok are saying like don't even go outside today and that can really affect you if you're um if you have errands to run maybe a little more gentle oh yeah yeah the gentle spirit i don't i didn't know that you subscribe to this line of thinking but it sounds like you have a maybe a lifetime paid subscription like you're really on board monthly subscription i kind of fade in and out in in different eras of my life but right
20:20Jason Stewart:now right now you have a co-star pro account is what you're saying no co-star no co-star do you get the co-star noties on the apple watch or no you have that turned off nor nor nor nor i love Channy Nicholas. I love Ghost of a Podcast. Channy Beluga? That's Chancy Beluga coded, what you just said. Don't try to sneak that shit in. What was the first name you said? Channy Rodriguez? Who's Chancy Beluga? Great question. It's a viral trend of this white woman who just, her whole shtick is she just says her name. She just says that her name is Chancy Beluga in different situations and it's funny. And gay guys, gay guys love it, of course, so it's become a thing.
20:58Child, I feel too old watching that shit. I need to tune in. I need to tune into that. Your algorithm's too dark from what I can tell. So wait, what is the... Send me some bids. I think it is. I need to turn it around. Can you tell us that this is a spiritual advisor, this person that you mentioned? What's their name again? Chani Nicholas is the people's astrologer.
21:17Jason Stewart:Okay, okay. And it's a humanistic astrology. She reads with whole sign astrology versus Placidus. The fuck? Hole sign is kind of more for the collective. Okay. Placidus is if you're trying to dive in on why you are that way. Okay. I don't want to do that. So is a hole sign or hole sign, because I've heard like water sign, fire sign, hole sign, is that for bottoms? It does. Yeah. It does sound. It is. I mean, I'm a hole sign. You're on the right track. Are you a hole or a pole? You know what I mean? This is, okay. What happened to you? Why do you think you got into this? Was this like a breakup thing?

22:03Was this like your mom put you on? How deep does this run?
22:06Jason Stewart:Brennan, what was her name? Usually I say what was his name on this show, but for this question, I'm going to say what was her name. It was a she-they put me on. Yeah, put you on, put me on. This happened in college right around the time I heard Between the Bars by Elliot Smith for the first time. It was a darkness. That broke us all open. Jason and I was just in the early 2000s, so we had less access to information. Yeah, I still eat my cereal like this when that song came out. You know what I'm saying, girl? It jolts you back into the past. And actually, my mom is having a spiritual awakening right now.
22:49I love you, Mom. Let's walk this journey together
22:53Jason Stewart:queen what's going on what's going on with her your mom a known listener of how long ago yeah yeah definitely maybe this episode more specifically she's tuned in she's excited to hear this episode wow great love you mom love you mama she and i are getting into tarot readings on youtube and we'll just like send them back and forth being like you need to listen to this listen to minute 12 second six and we're into it do we think now is your mom is there something happening with her or is she just like finding this and it feels good you know what i mean like she is a woman on a journey okay and i think spirituality tarot talking out loud to god is it's a cure.
23:45It's a compass.
23:47Jason Stewart:Have you guys started screaming yet? Have you screamed into the void yet? It's more like improv singing into the void. Screams aren't... It hurts the singing voice to scream. You have to protect those vocal cords. You personally, it's different. That's your business. Your family's from Minnesota, right? Yeah. I feel like I might have... your mom? I don't think I met your mom. But I knew, because when I came to Minneapolis there, I knew you said your whole family was in the building. You had a section. Peyton, the tour manager for the Waxa MJ tour, I was like, Peyton, the Minneapolis show's coming up.
24:28I need 16 guest list spots. And he's like, we'll see if we can make it work. God bless him. He made it work.
24:37Jason Stewart:That's a lot to ask for the opener. No shade. It is. it is a lot but i'm sure you know when you you you you approach that question with with a with a pure heart and soul you ask in a nice way with a twinkle in your eye you don't do it last minute you do it in a responsible sustainable way and he says he said yeah we'll just take the ticket ticket money out of your fee yeah i got you you need 16 names no problem yeah it's fine yeah Yeah, it's so much. There's a way for us to reconcile that when we're settling. Yeah, we'll reconcile that. Peyton was very good at his job, but I also find that tour managers, I think a good one likes to say yes.
25:20I think is the, you know what I mean? It's like people in life. I think it's like you would rather say yes than no. You don't want to make your people's life harder. You want to make it easier. That's part of your job. That's the whole goal. He's a king. He made it happen.
25:35Jason Stewart:The job of a tour manager is to take all that, internalize it, and then make it happen. And we need to give a shout out to all of our tour managers out there. Hardest working people in the music business. I say it all the time. Truly. Hardest job. Confrontational kings and queens. We will never stop abusing you. No, of course not. We will never stop abusing you, tour manager. No, bro. I need Coke. I don't care where we are. I need Coke. So tell Raising Cane's to open. I don't give a fuck. What do you mean they don't do breakfast? Raising canes, yes You a caniac? Wait, what? I asked you if you are a caniac Do you like raising canes?
26:13It really makes my belly hurt But I love the way it goes down
26:19Jason Stewart:I mean, that's a great description of several I mean, you could say that about Any food that can be found off the freeway Is pretty much doing that God, the Texas toast When I asked Jason When Raisin Cane's first started bubbling and Jason was talking about it, I was like, well, what do you get there? And when he told me it was like bread and fried chicken, I was like, okay. That's really all they got, basically. I didn't realize how limited the menu, the scope was. Turns out they don't have a beet salad for 12, Chris. I'm sorry. I'm upset. All right, Brendan, I'm sorry. When you had 16 friends and family members at the show in Minneapolis, how many of those people did you wish weren't there?
26:58Like, being honest. I am so deeply grateful they were all there, Chris. Nah, we had a fucked up cousin that you didn't want to see. You know, there was somebody in there we didn't want to really see on that night. You know, I wasn't not happy he was there. I'm so happy my first guitar teacher ever was in the crowd. Oh, that's big. Okay, that's actually big. That was so cute. And do you think you were, like, how is this guy, has he taught other notable musicians? Like, was he on the ground floor of the replacements? Well, he quit doing music lessons to pursue his own band who went on to win a Grammy.
27:35Whoa. That's unheard of.
27:37Jason Stewart:The Okie Doki Brothers. Great name. The Okie Doki Brothers. Okay, who's in the band? The Okie Doki Brothers? Yes. Is it him and his bro for real, or is it just a name? They're bestie bros, and they do children's music. Folk children's music, and they won a freaking Grammy. You know what? That warms my heart. That's an amazing story. It is. That's an amazing story. I remember after he was like, I have to go pursue this thing. I was in middle school and I was like, oh no. And I wrote him like a five page email and my cousin was like, you cannot send this. We're going to condense it down to maybe a few paragraphs.
28:20Have some thoughts before we hit send. He responded to the email recently. And he was like, I can't believe I didn't respond to this back in 2010. I'm a dick. But keep going. I wasn't going to say anything about her being in middle school in 2010, Jason. I was going to let that just wash on by.
28:37Jason Stewart:So I just pulled up the okie dokie bros. These motherfuckers got 90k on IG, bro. That's a lot. What the fuck? That's a lot. A lot of kids. That's amazing. A lot of kids. Don't put that on them. Okay. Yeah, Grammy-winning nature-based folk songs for folks of all ages. Nature-based? What is nature-based music? I think you know exactly what it means, bro. Oh, they're smoking. 420 Friendly, you dig? I think they just love the great outdoors. Who doesn't? Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is awesome. This next song is about frogs. Yeah. Because I feel like most guitar teachers, part of the charm of the guitar teacher is that they failed.
29:19and that they are doing this now and they low-key hate you because they know that you're going to be successful and that's the relationship. That is charming. Yeah, that's the relationship. But this is like, yeah, this is like, yo, you know what? I did this for a living and it served me well, but now I'm going to follow my dreams and it worked out. That's beautiful. It is a nice story. It's a nice one. Okie dokie bitches stay winning.
29:42Jason Stewart:That's right. And he came to the show. He did. That's great. There's a good chance the okie dokies are listening to this right now. Also, their logo is a snail. Kind of cute. That is cute. Okay, let's move on from the okie-dokies. I don't want to spend all how long gone talking about these two guys who only hang out with kids. Let's talk about you instead. Yeah, what's up? When do you hit XO Tour Life? October is when we really get cooking. We're starting it off at Americana Fest here in Nash, Vegas. Who's playing at Americana Fest? Give some names Jason might know. Is that like Essence Fest? I'm going to need to pull up the lineup.
30:22Jason Stewart:I'm going to use Yahoo Scout to pull this up. No problem. Just take seconds. All right. Let me take some guesses, Jason. Well, actually, you give me one name, and then I'm going to make a guess. Give me the headliner, and then I'm going to guess. Yeah. Pull up that lineup. Okay. Amy Grant? Yes. Okay. That threw me off completely. Melissa Etheridge? Okay. Come to my window. Winona Judd? Oh, this is some real shit. All right. If Winona Judd's playing, we're on some other shit. Yeah, the Americana Fest, it is feeling a little, it's leaning lesbian, I will say. We're here, we're queer. I just read a book that had a lot of stuff about, I'm sorry, what's the Christian women's singer?
30:59I just forgot her name. Amy Grant? The headliner. A.G.? Amy Grant, yeah. And there was like an Amy Grant subplot because the author grew up, it was about Christian hardcore, but his parents would go see Amy and it's like, oh, this is the goat. And everybody kind of agreed that she was the goat. But I believe that Emmy Grant had a crossover. I think she crossed over it. She had like a real radio hit at some point, I think. Oh, yeah. It wasn't Christian. It was like a top 40. Baby, baby? Oh, baby, baby. That's the one. That's the one. Can you sing it for us? Baby, baby. Baby, baby. Da-na-na-na-na-na-na.
31:34Okay, okay. Da-na-na-na-na-na. Baby, baby. Stop for a minute. Okay. I'm so glad you're mine. Yeah, I know that. I hope she sings it. I hope she sings it. Oh, she will. She has to sing it. I think she's going to sing that one. One song. The only one. All right, so you're doing America. But then you're hitting the road with some friends. You're doing snail mail, soccer mommy, like no fellas allowed type tour. It's the Rock Expo. The Rock Expo. It is the snail mommy tour for short. Oh, okay. We're going to be in the van. and I believe they're in buses. So it's going to be like parallel. So what are you excited about?
32:17Exactly.
32:21We're going to need to be, we're going to need to schedule some hangs because we're going to be traveling during the day. They're going to be already there. Sure. But who knows? It might all be a van. You know, I want to pitch you. I want to pitch you on something I try to pitch a lot of musicians on. You know, if we're looking at, well, if we're looking at the P &L, you know what I mean? and we're seeing how this routing works. Would it be, how crazy would it be for you and you only to fly to every show? That would be a funny sub-stack idea. Do you think it would offend your band members? Or do you, like, are you trying to be, you're, you know, an equal opportunity employer or is it a monetary, like, do you actually think it would cost too much?
33:06Definitely, definitely. To do the van and flying. Just you. I'm saying just you. Regular, like, I'm talking economy. I'm not talking, I'm talking regular. I just think that we don't think about this as an option. No check bags. Yeah, I think we don't think about this enough as an option. I'll ponder it. I'll ponder it. Take it to the boss, and he's going to say no. But I just, I mean, I guess you're the boss, but you know what I mean.
33:29Jason Stewart:I just, I find it to be. I think it really depends on what you're hauling, Chris. I think it depends on the gear. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's true. That's a good point. Brennan shows up with a ukulele on her back and she's got all of her songs on Ableton, plug that shit in. Yeah. You know, of course we're going to fire the band. Fuck all those people. And then, you know, now it's starting to make a little more sense. But when we're moving bass cabinets and drum kits, you know. I like the van. I like, we take two rows out. And so everyone has their own little world in there. And the back row is for no talking.
34:05You're lying down. you're maybe going through something back there. Middle of the van is you can kind of hang out with the people in the front seat. You can play a game. But there's no phone calls in the van unless you really need to. No phone calls in the van. And then we can talk. What if you got to do business? Oh, so if you're doing business and managers calling you saying, look, we got Google on the line. They want the song for the ad. You can take that call. Yes. You go in the back. You go on the way back for that. You know what I love is when, and you've definitely experienced this many times, is that you have to hear guys talking to their girlfriends when you're on tour, and their whole demeanor and voice changes, and you're like, I really wish I had to see that.
34:48You're my bass player. I want you to be better than this. But you kind of, they go around the side of the band like, oh, sorry, what's up, baby? Yeah, we're at Bucky's. Yeah, I just have a few minutes. And you have to hear a whole different side of this shredder that you thought you knew.
35:03Jason Stewart:Okay, well, what's worse? hearing a hearing hearing a guy talk to their girlfriend on the phone or hearing a girl talk to their girlfriend on the phone while on tour i try not to listen because i mean i've seen it a lot too where you get you get like you said you get the you get the cute bass player guy one you know five minutes ago he's like yeah this fucking chick was trying to talk to me and he's like i don't know the fucking shits her tits were fucking amazing and so and then girlfriend calls hey pookie hi no i told you i was gonna call you as soon as we got to know no i said no the whole personality changes and that's i think that's part of i think that's part of touring that you really get to see all sides of people when you're when you're rammed in the van together okay what about um that's true uh chris was talking about you get a phone call you know google wants to put you on their new super bowl commercial whatever now now that the profile is rising have we started working on the idea of doing some brand deals to get a little extra you know since we can't make money playing music anymore oh man i've actually gotten some pretty fun offers so far really really do you guys know hey dudes do we know hey dudes hey dudes the shoe company yeah it's like the most comfortable shoe that we can go from the beach to to cocktails no problem hey dudes hit me up okay twice so hey dude hit you up and said we want to be a part of the team?
36:28Jason Stewart:We want to put you in some shoes or are we going to go something a little further? A guy named Jelly Roll was rolling out his own Hey Dude line and they were looking for some up and coming artists. They wanted to cede the Jelly Roll Hey Dudes to some key players in the space and they said... This is insane. They're like little Hey Dude boots. I could not have imagined that you were going to say this to us. They're kind of a mid-top hey, dude. I think I've seen it. They are like little boots that you would put on your five-year-old, kind of. But do you have... Brennan, do you... You're a little cowboy.
37:02You don't have a relationship to Jelly. This is hey, dude reaching out on behalf of Jelly. Yes. Okay. So, honestly, they have good taste on their outreach.
37:12Jason Stewart:That's true. Yeah, I'm looking at them. They kind of... The bigger boots, they kind of look like Timberlands for people who are in the hospital. i just i'm just i'm sending it to you right now what are they in the hospital for you know leukemia because they're like they feel like they have soft edges you know what i mean because it's like but it's because it literally is like uh you know like when you go buy like nike shoes for infants and it looks like you know yeah force one or whatever but you get closer and soft fabric that's easy to slide on and off. The laces are more ornamental than anything.
37:54Jason Stewart:Brennan, how did you style these? How did you style these? No wonder you ended up on the seed list for these hey dudes then, if you like a shoe like this. How did you style these? If I were to style them, I passed up on this opportunity, but if I were to style them, I would go a little Renaissance Festival on it. I would kind of do a flowing skirt. You take jelly to the Ren Faire. You're going Lilith Faire mode on the jelly roll. Have you ever, I mean, I'm not going to say, have you ever been to a Ren Faire? Because I feel like the answer on that one is leaning more yes and no. But you know that thing when you go to a Ren Faire and the person is dolled up head to toe in like period correct Ren gear.
38:40Jason Stewart:And then you go all the way down and you look under the weird flowy skirt or trouser and it's a modern shoe you're gonna see the hey dude you're gonna see the jelly hey dudes underneath a little peak of it all starts with the footwear your experience starts from what the hell you're wearing on those hogs yeah i mean and i've worn a timberland not the most comfortable light easy shoe to navigate you know it's a it's a big heavy shoe you're lacing it up like you're about to jump out of a airplane in the marines it's it's not easy i wouldn't mind slipping on some soft cozy jelly dudes i want to get some now yeah we've been talking about how do you feel about jelly rolls dramatic weight loss which side are you on as long as he's happy that's how i feel i'm not a good enough answer yeah do you like his body fatter or skinnier that's all that's all you're allowed to say i i think he has a great smile i think i'm gonna give you one more chance.
39:45Jason Stewart:One more chance. Despite everything. Does his body look better, fatter, or senior? I can't answer this, Jace. I understand. You're saying that even though Hey Dids backed up the brink truck, you said you were able to pass up on this offer. I had to pass. I had to consult my management, of course, and say, girlies, are we doing this? And ultimately... And they're like, what's on the table? And they're like, free shoes and$300. And they're going to say, no. No, there was some money. I bet there was some money. I bet there was some real money attached. There was money attached, but I don't know if it was real.
40:31Jason Stewart:Okay. When we say real, it wasn't a life-changing sum. It was not a camera. Everybody's idea of real money is different, Jason. You can't put that on. And, you know, that's different for everybody. Because I was just admiring the role model Salt and Stone billboard where he's applying deodorant on the billboard. And I was like, see, now this motherfucker, he said, how much? Yeah, I'll show pit. I'll show pit. Are there clumps? Are there clumps in there? No, it's very clean. Okay. Salt and Stone is a clump-free product, Brennan, just to let you know. It was a small billboard. No shade. It wasn't a crazy billboard.
41:08It was, you know. But I was still at street level Couldn't see clumps I was at street level and I've never seen Tucker's armpits with or without Salt and Stone so I wasn't totally You know what I mean I don't know if I'd be the best Person to come
41:22Jason Stewart:A quick aside I just had lunch at a place called The Harbor House Inn which is a Very nice restaurant in Northern California But Salt and Stone soap and lotion In the bathroom that was the first place I had Seen it that's nice Exfoliating I like when the soap has little little stuff you want the microplastics you want the micro i feel you i feel you yeah you know i feel like asa asa feels so good you don't care that it's like clogging the nasal passageways of dolphin babies right yeah no that's not my problem i want my hands clean i want my hands clean are you ocd brennan you wash your hands a lot um it depends what i've been doing i went bowling the other day and i was like let's get these hands washed stacked.
42:06Jason Stewart:I feel like after you leave a bowling alley, you kind of want your friend to spray you down with the pressure washer. That's full shower. Bleach bath. For me, yeah. I'm taking bleach bath. There's no way I'm getting in my own bed. Do you get any turkeys? We cracked the 200. How are we looking on the lanes? I'm not afraid to say that. I put those gutters up. I put those sides up. Oh, you're saying you had the bumpers. Oh, yeah, yeah, the bumpers. You bumper. Bumper. The bumpers. Were you at, what's the bowling place in Nashville where, like, Jack White hangs out? What's it called? What's, like, the bowling?
42:45Pinewood Social. Yeah, yeah. I've been to Pinewood Social before. Okay, were you at Pinewood Social? No, I was at Donaldson Strike and Spare. And it is one of the...
42:57Jason Stewart:Okay, you went to, like, a real spot. Pinewood Social sounds like a conservative getaway weekend. Yeah, it does. Somewhere in Idaho where we talk about the future of our country. It's downtown adjacent. So it's kind of on, it's in that realm. Anybody goes there. We went for a team dinner there before the Waxa MJ tour. Team dinner at a bowling alley? If that ain't country, you can kiss my ass. They have a nice dinner menu and a pool. Oh. pool like to swim in yeah outside oh that's nice okay i don't know any restaurants that have pools i gotta say there's a pool and i know a lot about restaurants that is kind of crazy all right so when you're bowling what was the occasion for this trip to donald sense was this just for fun was this a date was this a group what was the vibe this was an interview oh okay so we had the writer being like what was this your idea let me guess this was the fucking rolling stone guy's idea i'm sure journalism is back no it was my idea i said we're going bowling it's cozy there they sell pickles in a bag they have an arcade there's yeah did it smell like cigarettes still it was monday no cigs but the smoking section was right outside the door and you get a little you get a little bit the buckets with the sand a lot of buckets with noodles the pool noodles as the back to make it more comfy it was fucking epic wow so they're also interior designers i see they have great taste instead of getting the chairs reupholstered we put pool noodles on there kind of zip tied on not not in a kind of way right that does feel no it's very cool nashvillians if you're listening Donaldson strike and spare don't sleep on it.
44:54You're saying it's in town. It's not like you have to drive out a little bit. 15 minutes from East Nashville. Okay, that's fine. Okay, that's reasonable. I mean, if you live in East Nashville, you gotta escape sometimes. You can't see another fucking session guy you had two dates with. Didn't work out. That's gonna fucking That'll march your mellow over at Dino's.
45:14Jason Stewart:Yeah, what how's the dating scene in the alt-americana world of Nashville You know, I've been out of the game for quite some time. I'm booed up. Are you booed up? Are you here? 48:56Jason Stewart:that but why do you love why do you and every other person in the relationship love that oh that's a good question because it's it's a view on the other side how the voyeur how could you not the voyeur i know but it's it's uh you want your cake and to eat it too you know what i mean yeah one plate is enough i don't that's that you're absolutely wrong i think that if you've never i feel like the people that do it all the time that are single are mindlessly doing it in a way that like they look at reels and i think you need a friend to kind of be like slow down you're doing this reflexively you're not taking in what this good point bozo has to offer or this bozo has to offer i think you got i think that's a really great point you guys both just gasol at me in a good way i feel good about it you need a different set of eyes on yeah yeah yeah yeah okay it's like anything else it's like yeah yeah you need a third party it's like anything Any support from your home team is always welcome and helpful.
49:54Jason Stewart:Okay, but you think it, I mean, we read about it all the time. We were just talking in the intro about a New York Times article about a matchmaker in New York and a guy who on paper just cannot get a relationship going. We're all reading about it. What are you noticing boots on the ground over there with your friend group? What's the disconnect here? Do you think there's any Nashville trends that are maybe specific to Nashville? I know that's a question you would have been better if you learned it before. You know, I think I'm at the crossroads right now where some girlies are getting married and having kids.
50:30Some girlies are ready to keep doing the single life and just mix and mingle. And, you know, it's...
50:42Jason Stewart:Ready to keep doing the single life? that's the coolest way to say say what you're saying yeah they fucking i i think that that is an interesting time in your life and i i will say that that somehow is still happening to me at 43 you know you think that happens at like 30 but i i the timelines have been moved and squished i think it happens a little earlier in someone in in more rural parts of the country and later on the coasts in New York and LA, I believe. That's true. Because you're much younger than us and it's happening. And like Chris said, I'm probably twice your age. I'm going to a wedding this weekend.
51:24That's going to be fun. Yeah. It's going to be in Biarritz, France. It's only 14 hours of travel. Damn, it's all night. It's only 14 hours of travel, but it'll be so fun. Brennan, I can tell you haven't been to enough weddings yet. You ain't been beat down by 14 hours of travel to see someone you know say I do. You know what I mean? You're not there yet. Yeah, I've had some cousins, some pretty epic cousin weddings. Down at the lake? Are we talking about we had to get on the plane? Definitely got on the plane from Nash Vegas up to Minnesota or Chicago. Okay, we're keeping it local. I could have drove to Chicago.
51:59Driven or drove? I could have driven to Chicago.
52:03Jason Stewart:Drobiana. Yeah, Drobiana. Drovina.
52:09Miss Drovina. Just combine them. Fuck it. Yeah. Nashville, though, feels very transient in a way that I feel like makes it, Jason, secretly more coastal. Because it's in the same way that New York and L.A. has people going to make it. I think Nashville maybe has that even more in some regards. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone's a singer-songwriter. Yeah. Did you go? Did you do? Everyone. Did you have to do it? Did you do all that bullshit, like song circle stuff? Writer's rounds. And yes. So that's why Song Circle is good, though. In the beginning, I was really trying to put on all the hats. Like, oh, commercial songwriting.
52:51Oh, Writers Round downtown in Printers Alley. Let's see what this is about. And a lot of those places are haunted. So it was kind of like a ghost tour, Writers Round haunted experience. And explain to our listeners what a Writers Round consists of. because some of them might not be as well versed in the nashville music business yeah so a writer's round i'm pretty sure it was coined in nashville it's when four singer songwriters get on stage at the same time there's four chairs there's four microphones four acoustic guitars yeah and everyone plays a song one by one and you go around maybe three or four times and it can be you're gonna want to be up there with people who can riff with you and people who can banter because sometimes it can be an utter utter horror story okay wait so it's four
53:48Jason Stewart:people with guitars and you and they just take turns playing a song and then the when the three people who aren't performing they just smile and sit there and watch them and like look to their right and kind of watch and nod and be like okay and there's an audience of people who have paid to see this because it's so it kind of feels like improv a little bit like we're just gonna get a random mix of people up there i meant that in a derogatory way yeah random mix of people up there get a song and do do people like is it like it kind of feels like they're in competition with each other while also working together no well they might be working together but in that setting They're supporting each other clearly in a fake way, but they all want to do the best job of the night.
54:37Jason Stewart:Yeah. What's the outcome supposed to be of this sort of cage match? It is a cage match. It is usually like a free dinner, some networking. Okay, sure. All the Lone Star you can drink in the green room? No green room. No green room. That's dark. You got a free soy latte But the idea is that you could Also though get discovered There could be a publisher or a label Or a producer or whatever So that's why you're doing it Brandon Flowers himself could be in the audience But I guess what I'm asking is This is just better for everybody Because there's more people there So in theory more people come out to watch And you get plucked versus doing your own show Where you have to be the full draw Right and you don't have to worry about Ticket sales you just show up a girl on her guitar and you strum the night away and it's kind of magical you don't have to worry about selling tickets you don't have to worry about making money this is an r.i.p r.i.p hayden hayden pentier but this is reminding this is the show nashville this is literally what this is like this has been a that was a big part of that show is like yeah and that place in the show bluebird is like a real place that people still it sure is correct it sure is yeah i never watched that show honestly unbelievable great show i just assumed it was about the fire department in nashville no it was all about the music and connie connie other one connie britain's in it which is one of i got that mixed up with nashville fire one of one of america's greatest actresses who can really do no wrong and felt very connie britain brennan looks confused too you don't know who connie britain is i need to google that hoe too jesus christ guys she's i mean i know exactly who she looks by if you look at a picture of her face you'll know her instantly but the name recognition.
56:27Jason Stewart:She's been in everything. Yeah, she's America's mom. But in Nashville, she plays sort of the I know her from Friday Night Lights. Shania Twain, Cheryl Crow, like elder. Long, blonde hair mommy. But she might actually be Southern, because she really plays Southern well. Like, I don't... I would be surprised if she was from New York. She's from Texas. You can tell by the way she acts. Exactly. Exactly. Okay. Was she in Lost? I never watched Lost proudly. I somehow resisted that There was a point where that was the biggest thing in the world I love Saeed What about the character? Yeah I love Saeed That was the name of the guy who came to New York I feel like we've talked about this before But you've had a lot of funky jobs Yeah I feel like I remember this That you've had some of You've lived a lot of life For a young woman Is what I'm saying But I feel like when I met you, maybe you were working at a weird movie theater.
57:30Poster right behind me. Belcourt Theater. Were you a ticket taker? Well, you do all the jobs at the indie nonprofit movie theater. Non-profit movie theater.
57:43Jason Stewart:You have to ask yourself if you could take a 15. It depends who's the manager. But the Belcourt Theater is 100 years old this year. It used to be the Grand Ole Opry. what it used to be a children's theater it is a historical cinema and it's the shit okay 100 years young did you get paid to work there yes okay all right just making sure i'm just making sure after all that i wanted to make sure you were at least getting a little something you know what i mean a little gas in the tank yeah you did say non-profit how does that work i mean non-profits pay the employees but that's above my pay grade every movie theater is non-profit nowadays but amc's non-profit too but are you uh where do you where do you land on the on the butter on the popcorn are you squirter i usually just do a little squirt and some salt and then some bunch of crunch and then you mix it up refresh my memory what bunch of crunches oh it's the crunch bar crunchy pebbles yeah but isn't that isn't that an offshoot of the classic nestle crunch bar yes yes i believe that those are those are the nestle crunches babies chris it's true think of it as nestle like the salmon roe of exactly don't bring salmon roe out before noon that's gonna you know what that'll do to my stomach it has a great mouthfeel yeah whenever i go to the movies and i i want i only want a little bit of the corn with the with the butter but i I hate when the butter comes down in a thick, finite stream.
59:20Jason Stewart:It just shoots straight down the center of the popcorn bag. Yeah. So like three kernels are completely soaked in it. I want there to be a tumbler like when the cement's being mixed. And I want a spritzer of some liquid butter, just a fine mist over every kernel. Wouldn't that be nice? That would be really nice. It would get oily. That's the problem. Get all over your pants. Get all over your hands and face What do you mean? Jace is the kind of guy who gets a salad From a corporate lunch place And takes it home Disassembles it, adds in the dressing himself Uses a bowl, which I respect But I'm not doing that because I just don't give a fuck Like I'm not gonna do dishes When I got food, you know what I mean?
1:00:02Food to go, I'm not plating
1:00:03Jason Stewart:Why buy the tool if you don't use it for the job I'm not plating fucking to go food I'm not doing that I'm eating it out of the plastic like God intended and putting the plastic in the fucking trash can. I'm not doing dishes. That's the whole point is to not do dishes. So plastic fork, microplastics. No, I won't do plastic fork because the constitution is not strong enough for the bites I'm taking. You know what I mean? I'm not saying I'm a forkload guy. Chris works out six days a week, so you put a plastic fork in his hand and five seconds later, the thing is going to happen. It just breaks. Where else have you worked besides the theater?
1:00:40Have you done construction? I've done back of house cooking, and that feels like construction.
1:00:46Jason Stewart:Are you a back of house shardy? You're a back of house shardy. For a few months, I was back of house at Elegy Coffee and Breakfast Burrito Joint. And I didn't like it. And we're talking Elegy spelled like E-L-E-G-Y and not like somebody named Elegy. Okay. Yes. Elegy, E-L-E. What was your discipline? What was your ministry? What station were you on? She's rolling burritos. I was the cook. But I'm saying, was it burritos only, I guess is what I'm asking. It's burritos, biscuits, a la carte, sides. What were you cooking a la carte, sides? What kind of food do you guys serve a la carte? Bacon, sausage, eggs.
1:01:39Jason Stewart:How tough was it to, I guess what's more difficult, making a perfectly flaky biscuit or rolling a burrito perfectly? Yeah. The biscuit, they come ready to go into the oven. Oh. So. Okay. They make them at another location. Those are doing off-site. The burrito was a fun experience because I would, there was one time I squirted onto the burrito like a show announcement. And I was like, I don't know. Like, show tonight. Squirted onto the burrito a show announcement with what condiment? What's ketchup? Salsa? Hot sauce? Was it a chipotle crema? A spicy aioli. It was a chipotle crema. Okay. Yeah. But if I put a burrito in front of you right now, could you roll it up tight?
1:02:31Absolutely. See, that's sick. That's a life skill. That's what you're downplaying.
1:02:35Jason Stewart:Sometimes I like watching videos of people roll burritos where you really don't think they're going to fit it all in there. And then they do. Yeah, it's unbelievable. But the problem is it comes out round as a basketball. And you feel like if a mosquito lands on it, it'll just go. You know what I mean? It's too volatile. Explosions. Yeah, we wrapped it all, but at what cost? When you were working there, what was your staff meal burrito that you would make for yourself? Like if it was up to you and you could freak it, what are we doing? yeah the weddell 2.0 so i would get a deli container okay uh and i would get some of the black bean sweet potato mix bottom that's your base layer yep three eggs marina scrambled salt and pepper in the pan put those hose in and then salsa speaking of microplastics so we're using a plastic deli container as your bowl plate vessel.
1:03:36It's getting all the micros in there. Micros and macros.
1:03:41Jason Stewart:Three scrambled eggs on top. This deli is getting pretty full by now, is it? Yeah, I'd say it's halfway. And then we had tater tots for a few weeks, and so I'd put some tots in there. Seasonal tater tots, of course. Yeah, it was fly. I mean, that sounds pretty good and classic. That sounds like a fly little. No bacon, no sausage? No sausage? Are you vegetarian? What the hell? Well, there's sausage. No, no, no. There's bacon crumbles in the black bean sweet potato experience. You're making black bean sweet potatoes non-vegetarian? Wow, that's crazy. I've never heard of that. And you didn't lead with that info?
1:04:20It's a little crazy. It's a little exclusive. But there's vegan options. They have the tofu crumbles.
1:04:27Jason Stewart:Yeah, of course. Okay, so why do you go tortilla-less? Why do you go tortilla-less? Or do you eat the plastic deli container? I was also housing a biscuit or two on shift. So I was trying to be like, maybe I'll skip the tortilla. You know what, Brennan? Biscuits are so fucking good. I think about biscuits all the time. They're so fucking good. And we haven't even gotten into, you know, you and someone splitting that Queen Amon around the 3 p.m. lull. You know what I mean? Is that the one that's delicately cinnamon sugared? Yeah, it's like a croissant that you squeeze into a muffin tin and the bottom is a bunch of sugar that kind of melts into the caramel.
1:05:08Jason Stewart:It's on the menu over at LG Coffee. Check it out. I watched something really... Sounds so good. There's a trad wife influencer that's very popular named Nara. She's married to a male model and she sort of has a whole character where she's like, okay, I'm going to... You know, that kind of thing. And Alex was like... My wife was like, you got to see this shit. She sent it to me. This bitch made homemade Skittles for her family. She was like, we're not. What do you even put in those? She's literally making her own gelatin in her. It was unbelievable. And then she shows the finished product, and it's like 12 Skittles on a plate.
1:05:43It's like Skittles is kind of a. That feels like you want more than less of Skittles. You're not trying to have eight. You're not trying to have a bag of Skittles. It takes an hour to make each Skittle. So it is a slow. It took eight hours. It took eight hours to make Skittles. That's self-torture. Made her own dyes to spray them to get the color. It was unbelievable. Respect.
1:06:06Jason Stewart:This is what people do in jail. We're like, yeah, Skittles. You know what I mean? I boiled my t-shirt to make it green. Yeah, yeah. I know. I was like, how'd you make this Skittle yellow? You don't want to know, cuz. I know that she makes a fortune from posting. I know this is her income stream, you know, but still. that feels like reality that's 12 hours of work you add the editing maybe that's two days i feel like like um like cook blogger chef people online have been making you know homemade skittles for years and years but they just weren't as hot as this person with as nice of a camera set up and wardrobe so that's why she's succeeding she is i gotta check this girly out she's like you would see her you would recognize her if you saw her she probably i don't know i assume she has millions she's married to like a very this guy lucky blue who's like a very recognized male model like very beautiful lucky blue yeah that's a fake name i'm gonna assume but i think he's mormon so maybe it's a fake marriage too blue yeah yeah yeah definitely fake marriage uh okay he's like i love pussy are you like i don't know and believe you are you does he say that yeah he says it exactly like that exactly like whoa i know pretty cool pretty cool uh do you do you I should try that.
1:07:20Do you cook at home now or do you hate cooking? PTSD. It's a 50-50 toss up. My boyfriend and I kind of start out the day by being like, what are we doing for dinner?
1:07:34Jason Stewart:Wow, we do the same thing. It's kind of nice. That's every relationship. Yeah. On the morning walk. We did a morning walk run today. And my household is like, I want to order this and she wants to cook something. I'm like, can you please not do that? because I would much rather just order something. And not because of food quality, just because of effort. You don't want your queen to put so much effort after a long, hard day? Is that what you're saying? Yeah, she works a long day at the office, then she comes home. She doesn't have time to debone a Branzino after cranking those eight hours. You know what's been happening to me that's really pissing me off?
1:08:08Jason Stewart:Really? Fresh direct. Getting into it, brother. The delivery service where I order my coffee and water and Alex orders food. They started... eating disorder so we yeah well so they sent us there was like an extra box of all this shit a couple weeks ago and i was like i didn't order fucking green onions and fucking broccoli like what is this i thought it was like a neighbor's that we'd accidentally gotten but unpacked it all because alex had ordered it so i didn't know next week same thing happened they were sending us these bonus boxes of all this shit i didn't want and i'm like you guys are clearly cleaning out the tubs and being like this eggplant's going bad let's send it to our customer it's unbelievable it's disrespectful it's wasteful it's stupid there was a banana bread that i tried okay so so you're looking so somebody like uh like brandon and i we're we see a oh a free box full of delicious organic produce somebody pinched me this is my lucky day and you're looking at it from the Kanye West gets a water bottle on the airplane and he's complaining like now I'm responsible for this water bottle.
1:09:14Exactly.
1:09:15Jason Stewart:You look at a box full of ingredients and you say this is shit that I have to now throw away. You're sending me two Oh, I can't wait to make a dope omelet. Two cucumbers wrapped in plastic? What the fuck am I supposed to do with that? Like what the fuck am I supposed to do with that? Appetizers. Appetizers. Put a little mold and salt on those things. Guys, I know that physically I know that physically I could do something with them and turn it into food. Do you know what farm the cucumbers were from? Fuck no, brother coming from a farm in the Bronx. I don't know. I don't know where the fuck is.
1:09:45I don't know. I don't check the farms. The Bronx. I don't know. Yeah, the Bronx farm. I don't know. Yonkers farms. I couldn't be sure. I couldn't be sure. But I was straight. But hopefully it doesn't happen again. Because I'm going to write a letter. Strongly worded. Send him a DM. Maybe it has to do with the cyclospora outbreak. Oh, yeah. Well, now blueberries will kill you. watch those smoothie bowls i know i know i saw that this morning yeah we we just got a mixed berries bag and i heard clinton from the kitchen saying turn it in you said clinton did you see the thing clinton i have to go promote my album could you pick out every blueberry in our household
1:10:26Jason Stewart:and throw it away please while i'm on while i'm on zoom it's it's it's only like the walmart frozen blueberry kind of vibe if you i don't know if you're going to the organic farmers market or you're hand-picking them like I do, of course. That's true. You're hitting the turnip truck, I'm sure, for your produce. You're not going to Kroger. You know, I like to do a little mixture. I like to go to turnip. Turnip. I like to go to the farmer's market. You and Clinton are real leaders. Trader Joe's surprises me. Trader Joe's surprises me. I like a good hearty dinner. I've been perfecting. Well, nothing's ever perfect in this life, but I'm really trying to get the whole chicken roast down in time for winter.
1:11:14You tucking a beer can in that shit, or are you just doing it regular? It's like scraps. I get kind of wild with it sometimes. Like the onion butt, get in there. Lemon, get in there.
1:11:25Jason Stewart:Okay, well, I would say... A ton of butter. Okay, well, we're about to close up this episode, but I will say you should be spatchcocking your chicken, dry brining, and high heat roasting. I haven't tried those yet. Yeah, just get the chicken. They won't be able to do it for you at Trader Joe's, but if you have some kitchen shears, cut out the backbone. It's a little tough because you're cutting through bones, but you'll be able to do it no problem. With the kitchen scissors. salt the inside and the outside put it in the fridge and let it chill there all day and then pull it out okay ovens at 400 high rack in the oven and that whole thing will cook up golden brown and crispy 40 minutes 50 minutes no problem okay advanced move i'll leave you with get some sourdough bread thick slice put it in the bottom and use that as the bed to put the chicken on top of the chicken juices all drip in and the chicken juices the fat it soaks the bread into a giant crouton pull while the chicken's resting back into the oven and then those turn into these giant chicken flavored bread toasties that taste 10 times better than the bird itself okay calorically speaking you don't want to know what's going on you should do a cookbook you should do a cookbook i am a cookbook brennan thank you for joining us the album is out today congratulations you did it you did it with brad and katie you were in durham locked in the lab yeah and that awesome lab fucking garage demon out there making it happen making it happen um but i love i love the music i'm really happy for you and i hope the tour goes well i'm sure i'll catch you in one of those cities thank you so much come through bro later bye guys
1:13:15For me, a pretty little fantasy
