In short

Chris and Jason trade stories and hot takes about New York/US Open culture, Burning Man backlash, celebrity/athlete ego and optics (Kanye vs. Jay-Z; Serena/Williams; LeBron/Magic Johnson LLC talk), and modern “recommendation” tech (TaskRabbit ads; restaurant app “Belly”). They also riff on everyday life: COVID N95 masks, milk brands, and a birthday Joe’s Stone Crab dry-ice delivery.

Guest backgrounds

No guests appear in the transcript. The episode is just Chris Black and Jason (co-hosts of How Long Gone).

Key claims

US Open is engineered for alcohol and “coffee is a side quest,” while Burning Man is more isolated and less universally discussed. Celebrity controversies are amplified by algorithms, but most fans buy tickets for music regardless of optics. Athletes/billionaires may use complex shell structures; “the dog” (inner drive) doesn’t disappear after retirement. Restaurant review gatekeeping is preferable to influencer/geo-tracking.

Notable examples

Greg Norman at the US Open; Lavazza coffee/milk shortages; Williams sisters’ doubles loss; Kanye West/Chicago stadium shows; Kid Cudi vs. Peter Rosenberg; Belly app “meet the team” (Elliot & Judy) and Katzez Deli; Joe’s Stone Crab claws for two.

0:48how long gone beautiful sunday here in new york jason fall is fall is kind of falling a little bit if i'm if i'm being honest with you there's a there's what's that air smelling like brother

0:59Jason Stewart:man what's that air smelling like in n west i mean the air in this apartment smells great but outside i mean it smells better than it does in august i'll tell you that but it's it's just i just mean there's a there's a breeze i wear a jacket to the gym this morning and it felt not to overstep but necessary almost i would say yeah i actually wore i had to wear a jacket this morning it was a very kind of tissue thin windbreaker not vintage nike all-weather gear type of windbreaker actually condé nast embroidery it's a team jacket on the on the back of the kind of mock neck collar or whatever but it was one of you know how the windbreakers sometimes no pockets in the front but just the uh assistant coach pouch in the lower back pocket maybe are the runners pouch you know what i mean where you put your where you put your important paperwork and stuff while you're while the guys are running drills i just whatever you know the three guys who go jogging with Bill Clinton in those old photos.

1:55Jason Stewart:They have to carry some of those important presidential documents in the back pouch. But I pull it out. What flavor am I going to hit him with today? And then what's in the back pouch pocket? N95 mask. A relic from COVID past. I assume you put it in the closest public trash can or lit it on fire. Which one should you choose? I donated to our seventh responders. Not the first. it has been some time was it a black one was it a high quality or was it kind of one of the shittier ones you would put on to really fake it it was it was a black one standard out of the box triple black um but i i remember when we would get kind of artisanal you know an eggplant colored mask that is the most that's one of the most that's one of the most embarrassing thing yeah dude like some somebody's sending me a mask they're charging 125 on their website for and you have to like i'm like dude what is this is so embarrassing i mean i was happy to get you know free free pack is a free pack you know what i mean i'm still gonna use it you know it's all they used to send you they used to send you the like wasn't there like the korean homie who made like the sherbert pack that was like 15 colors bro get out of here with that shit yeah we had we had salmon we had eggplant we had hunter green but i mean it was very much like you know during those times you had the matching whatever your fabletic set or your aloe set or whatever that would come in those colors and we needed yeah you know a piece of fabric that covers our nose just like when you're same color because you had the fitted that match you had the throwback you had the socks you had the ones and then you need the mask to kind of top it off that's cherry on top tar heel blue it's a certain color blue that it's not just any old regular you know what i mean Real talk.

3:42Jason Stewart:That is a certain shade. Damn, I can't believe you found it. Carheel Blue, that same shade. It's on the label of my David Vanilla Protein Milkshake that I'm slugging down right now. They're the new Sherbert mask in my life. It kind of tastes like, you know when you get the ice cream, like the soft serve ice cream that's a little artificial, but in a way we're kind of rocking with it. you know what i mean or how like the the sugar in soy like store-bought soy milk when it when it's not sweet but it still has a bunch of like corn syrup in there it has a little bit of a naughty sting it kind of tastes like like a melted soft serve naughty naughty sting the naughty sting we had some milk issues yesterday at the u.s open if i'm gonna keep it a keep an absolute buck with you i had milk issues as well i bought a fucking gallon of clover it tasted like fucking you know some type of ebola virus clover in there clover is like the barista milk yeah there's like there's there's a handful of like there's like a horizon for i mean they're all regional so you know i'm just talking about socal vibes but clover it is a pretty good one and they make grass-fed they make you know organic they make some of the a2 whatever shit but my my milk palette is so just here we go it's not it's not that it's refined it's weakened it hasn't strengthened it's weakened to the point where i have like a princess palette as it pertains to leche jesus christ i know it's awful it's awful so i had to i had to buy a gallon it was an emergency gallon fucking tastes like shit maybe we turn it into a chia pudding who knows but i was able to re-up and get some good like an emergency gallon you don't keep that behind glass in the in the fridge in the garage or you got to break it with a little a supreme a supreme mini axe don't talk to me until i had my lecha why so we went to we went to the us open day session yesterday with our our gray goose family and it was like all right well let's let's get alex's dad a hat and we both wanted a coffee so let's venture out from the box and kind of go you know walk walk the grounds got a french dip i see lavatsa is is posted up and then we get we get in line and the the barista at the lavatsa booth starts screaming this is the alcohol side if you want coffee you have to go to the other side meanwhile we're we're the next up you know what i mean like we're we're we're next in line so i get up there and then they're like oh no we have cold brew and hot coffee we don't have any milk to offer you we have espresso martini virgin espresso martini on draft but we don't have so i'm I'm like, I just want to be clear.

6:19The coffee brand that I could see from a mile away, you're not really offering coffee here. We have to kind of circumvent. So Alex is like, well, I need some milk. I need whatever. I'll take anything. And then we have, oh.

6:33Jason Stewart:I'm not you. I need a little milk in my coffee. They send us over to where the sugar and shit is, and they got half and half. It's been baking in the sun all day. I'm like, this is not. So then we find the coffee portion where they're serving lattes, cappuccinos, etc. And we have to wait in line. And then the guy has every kind of milk you've ever heard of. Gave us coconut milk, for Christ's sake. He's hand-pressing his own pumpkin seed milk. I was just like, this is too crazy. I know that the U.S. Open exists to sell alcohol in high volume. Do not get me wrong. but if you're going to have arguably one of the most well-known coffee brand signs gleaming in the last gas of summer, you've got to be able to offer me some milk for the coffee.

7:23Jason Stewart:Also, if you're the type of person who's at the U.S. Open and you need coffee, if you're drinking coffee at the U.S. Open, let me get a cup of black coffee with two creams and a sugar at the U.S. Open, coffee is not like a fun little side quest it's it's a requirement and to play with those java junkie emotions yeah it's cruel and it's not our friends at lavaza's fault no of course what the us open has done to them and i was just reminded of when i asked um jacob from converge i said the word java junkie and he took issue when you were jokingly using the word junkie that might offend people who are actually junkies yeah i'm a little bit of a java junkie myself and he's like actually i don't think the word junkie is funny or cool at all well all right man my bad all right well let's just start over okay so you you you you guys needed that coffee they're playing with your emotions like a rag doll and like we said not the good people of lavats's fault it's what the u.s open does to people that's yeah the u.s open is like hey remember how we all used to like you know maybe we'll eat a sandwich maybe there'll be a lobster roll because we're all rich here it's all good and and now they're like what if your shitty entitled chrome hearts wearing nine-year-old son um is gonna throw a shit fit if he doesn't get caviar nuggets and i have to say i have to i have to say we were there all afternoon and maybe it's because it was the day session i didn't see i didn't see any poor behavior i'm not i'm not exactly i'm not trying to i'm not capping like i really gone effect i didn't see anything crazy everybody looked pretty normal but again if you're getting there you know how much did gray goose pay you bro nothing zero shit but i'm saying if you get there at 12 30 in the afternoon it's like the guy in front of me had two had two honey deuces and a fucking uh caesar but like he's 60 years old but the biggest okay so we're watching tennis and i look over next to me i'm like oh that guy's like older guy's really good looking in the emirates box i can't tell i wonder who that is and he had a baddie wife like an age-appropriate baddie.

9:29Then I realized it was golfer Greg Foreman. Really? I just want to say on the record, this guy looks amazing and his wife was so hot and age-appropriate. The whole thing warmed my heart. I was like, this guy's watching tennis. He's divorced from a tennis player. He's got his new chick here. She looks great. She's age-appropriate. She's got the biggest diamond I've ever seen in real life. It was a nice scenario. Oh, Greg Norman. Norman, sorry. Greg Foreman's the guy who played in Cat Power who died. I'm sorry. That's the most Christmas steak of all time.

10:00Jason Stewart:You went to a very niche thing for a guy who was serving Nation of Ulysses, the makeup trade kind of vibe. But instead, we're talking about Greg Foreman. The shark. Greg Norman. The shark, Greg Norman. The great white shark. Greg Norman, if you look at a picture of him right now, he looks like when you go to the hotel gym at a weird resort and there's one seven-year-old guy there who don't play this is a hundred dude that is a hundred percent who this was but yeah he said i just was like because because he needed somebody like offered to take a picture of him and his wife because they were trying to get the flick and then the woman who was taking the picture realized who it was it was like well actually uh can i also get a picture with you yeah it was a nice it was a nice it went both ways okay i'm trying to i'm looking at the sharks insta right now it's mostly just pictures of you know him pulling up some fish and yeah and all that stuff but he was he was a little shagger back in the 80s okay i think i found his wife did he tag this did he tag this hoe okay bad norman bad kristen norman she also goes by kiki keeks or curse keeks and uh she is obviously um you know an interior designer and wife of greg norman but most importantly mother of two it looks like they have a kid who joined the marines there's nothing I love more than a rich kid who's like you know what I'm devoting my life to the service I met a guy we're so fucking proud of him I met a guy who was talking to me this guy is sitting on 100 million he's talking to me about his son being a firefighter I'm like well yeah he can afford to do that I'm sure his career as a firefighter isn't paying for the house in Malibu but it's something it's not nothing and he's helping people.

11:52Jason Stewart:He's able to pay for his own kava on lunch break at his fireman job. And don't take a look at the Norman twins. I was watching some highlights. They're going to be a good bit of trouble over there. I was watching some highlights of the match and yeah, I guess it did seem like there was less kind of buffoonery going on and hopefully some of that sort of auto-corrected itself and everyone was like, oh shit maybe i shouldn't bring the ring light yeah i think there's i think it to the tennis i think it went viral enough where people even like the worst offenders are probably like okay this is maybe bad if i if i bust this out like fully but then we can go back to the cameraman filming you know two entitled shitty kids eating even eating caviar nuggets don't even know who's playing the match don't even you know definitely don't but it was interesting that i was i noticed that this year like there's there's sort of like big events going on right now like burning man and us open i feel like they both had like a backlash this year for the first time like i think everyone is sort of like the shark has officially been jumped but i guess we were probably saying the same thing one year ago today and i just don't well burning man's it's burning man feels like something that is awful but also exists completely in a vacuum that i don't really see no one I know is talking to me about going or paying attention to what what's happening whereas the U.S.

13:21Open is the total opposite of that the U.S. Open everyone I know is going and everyone I know is talking about it where I'd like Burning Man this year the biggest thing I've seen is because one of Bethany Frankel one of the beloved New York housewives I was just gonna say

13:32Jason Stewart:maybe that's the only way your east coast leaning queer mind was was algorithmized was well is Is Burning Man, is it also one of those things where it's like not no photos, but maybe like keep it low? Or did it used to be like that? It used to be like that, and now it's definitely fucked. No cap. This is a service I use all the time, Jason, because I'm not like you. I'm not super handy. I don't have a toolbox. Thank God there's TaskRabbit. And so when I need some of my art hung or something put together, maybe some shelving units or whatever it may be, I always call TaskRabbit and a nice young person with a backpack stocked with tools and other useful items shows up and takes care of any problem I have.

14:21And the best part is I can search for them based on cost, skill set, availability, client reviews. So I know who's showing up. I know they're going to do a good job. and I know I'm not going to have to, you know, kind of run away when they come inside.

14:32Jason Stewart:But Chris, I know how to do stuff. I'm handy. But then, you know, as you get older, time is money, money is time. Certain projects, you know, the gate needs a new coat of black paint. You know, it's been hot or whatever. I could do it, but it's starting to look pretty nice to go on TaskRabbit, pay a professional to come over and do it. The cleanup's going to be done. The disposal of the shit's going to be done. It's exactly what you want. And quite frankly, it's worth the money. Never hang another TV as long as you live. Just call TaskRabbit. When life happens, your to-do list grows. 16:52it's pretty cool that i don't see anything i mean obviously now i'm fucked i'm gonna see a lot of it but i i didn't see i haven't seen anything it's more of a west coast bay area kind of vibe and

17:01Jason Stewart:you definitely don't swim on dab or ayahuasca twitter the way i do and you know diplo dab twitter dude it's crazy yeah you know you don't you're not really living on resin resin twitter i'm going viral i'm going viral on resin twitter right now i had to turn off my mentions it's fucking it's fucked bro ruin my weekend bro it's fucking ruin my weekend bro my my my my menchies are gunked up my analytics are fucking sticky as hell um i there was a long time where i was like one year i'm i'm gonna go to burning man just so i could say i went just so i could say i tried it and i could speak you know with a with a bit of experience or authority on the matter and i think I think we're way past that.

17:48Jason Stewart:And we're going to blame Diplo and Bethany Frankel, you know, going live. I don't. Going live on Snapchat. Well, now there's Starlink out there. They're fucked. You know all those guys. There's no way. There's nothing to avoid. And also Elon Musk's brother is like on the board of trustees for Burning Man. So this feels like a long Starlink play, doesn't it? Oh, I forget he has a brother. And if you thought Elon Musk was the most insufferable guy of all time, wait till you see his bro. Because his brother, he's less robotic and more... Does he look less like Tommy Pickles? Or does he still have that sort of pickles look?

18:28Jason Stewart:He has a pickly look. He has longer hair. He's taller and thinner. And he has more aura, more swag sauce. but he also does have like Vancouver, British Columbia longboard but you know I have 80 million dollars in my business checking and a hacky sack is in the cup holder of the McLaren kind of thing which could be a lot worse I'm sure I knew he had a brother I guess but this all feels I don't know he probably has 11 they're like the white Jackson 5 you know what I mean they have a psycho daddy and he's hitting all of them to success they can all sing and dance famously sing and dance on the stock market I was being serious they're tap dancing for something else not so they don't get hit by their dad but just a different kind of thing his name is Kimball Musk bro Kimball Musk bro Kim Musk he co-founded the software company Zip2 in 95 with Elon, but now he focuses on his nonprofit work as a restaurateur and entrepreneur as well.

19:42He's like, I'm a restaurateur and an expert at insider trading, thanks to my brother's several business ventures. But before I go out to dinner, like I'm going out to dinner tonight, I might put a couple of squirts of Kimball Musk behind the ears on the nape of the neck to see if people notice I'm wearing something different.

20:00Jason Stewart:Kimball Musk is my new biodynamic winery in dude in in in sonoma county that is so crazy i i wanted to also i wanted to talk about the uh williams sisters losing and how happy that made me um because i i just she's insufferable in a way that no like making a big deal about your fake comeback and then not doing press is so amazing like you just like they you're too you're too powerful the usta to force you to do anything and it's just sort of pathetic for everybody it's crazy yeah i didn't so we're talking about when they're they're playing doubles yeah sister doubles and then they lost in the third round yeah yeah they lost and so everyone's losing fritz lost yeah i saw fritz lose yesterday that's the problem and he was he was cruising he was cruising just like a white man i was just so happy to i was just so happy to see i just i ever since serena made that documentary about herself i was like this i i don't i don't i can't believe i'm so surprised people root for her still that's what surprised me i guess she's she's american and she's the biggest obviously probably the most successful biggest female tennis star we've ever had so in that way i understand it but do you know what i mean at one point she was a national treasure she just seems mean still is i guess but she seems mean and unhappy and like ungrateful in this way that's like dude you're doing a victory lap like if you lose the victory lap you're that's kind of that's on you big bro like you're only clowning you didn't need to do this you married the reddit guy and you're like you don't need to be doing this this is all ego so if you lose you got to lose with some dignity with some grace is what i would say yeah yeah that's that's true that's true you can't act like you were robbed on some weird weird thing and then also say i'm not gonna do any press yeah there's some through lines with uh with lebron you know going back to yeah you don't need the money you're doing poly market ads and just at a certain point let's take our greats dude it's just michael jordan has sort of ended up being one of the only people who has been able to be a true good baller you know i mean he kind of did it in his i mean he did play baseball let's not forget that but overall yeah there was that he did have a hiccup with that but then he was like you know what i'm gonna do i'm just going to smoke cigars on a yacht every day yeah life doesn't get no better than that how many how many white women bullshit how many white women can this yacht hold give me the humidor and 10 white baddies that are like almost like that are 48 you know they're not too young it's it's all good yes it's it's norman style is what we're calling that from now on yeah that them bitches ain't old they ain't young either exactly the freedom this that fig is right ready to go i mean the coolest thing michael jordan's ever done is his son doing coke at breakfast that's still one of the greatest pictures of of like that is really you are off the rails doing that at a five-star you know italian just doing coke with some strawberries on the table it's just it's something it's something i've like never seen before like i've never thought about cocaine being pulled out while pancakes are being served you know and maybe that's me being and yeah and you've seen you've seen your fair share of sunrises i i have sadly i don't i hate that but yeah so it's michael you're right though michael I just don't know why these the ego being more powerful than money is so crazy to me.

23:20And now we got

23:21Jason Stewart:the homie Pablo Torres Pablo Torres sort of dry snitching on billionaires robbing from the rich, giving to the poor but he was talking about Magic Johnson having some weird LLCs involved with his life insurance company paybacks and shit. Oh yeah, you think? It's the same thing. Like, you have your chain of movie theaters. You have hundreds of millions of dollars. You know, your son is fierce AF. Yeah. Do we really need to sort of, like, start a fake life insurance shell company, bro? Well, I think what we're forgetting is that these athletes also, at this level, the dog is unbelievable inside of them.

24:04Like, some of the biggest, gnarliest, nastiest dogs on earth live inside these people that we're talking about. So, I don't think we can. Yeah. The dog is not going to get put down just because the career is over or whatever retirement looms or is real. It's sort of like.

24:20Jason Stewart:A dog like that, you put a muzzle on him and he simply laughs in your face. No, no. He's biting through that thing. No, it's crazy. He's biting through it. Straight through it. He's going to bite through it like a black guy in Chaparron's ass. I guess we got to talk about your boy, Ye, doing 70 tickets as soldier. Because a few people let me know. They were like, you said this two years ago. Yeah. You said that he's going to be selling out, and I don't want to be right, but unfortunately, Jason, I am.

24:56Jason Stewart:And also, you know, sort of been bullish on being Jay-Z haters, and similarly to me watching Burning Man and U.S. Open happen in tandem in my life, and ripping people apart. A lot of people out there are watching Kanye West and his goat, Jay-Z, doing stadium shows during the same week. I mean. And the differences are pretty glaring. Kanye West, for all of his unbelievable failings, his live performance is next to none. Partly because it's just the set is so crazy and partly because it's the, you know, for a certain generation, that's the Great American Songbook. you know that's that's fucking that's that's twitch streamers simon and garfunkel or whatever you know it's like this is real this is real shit people know these songs he's got song his songs are cinematic and he can let the song play and let the the stage design and fireworks and everything do 90 of the work because you know his his fat old ass is not necessarily sprinting across the stage you know like a pretty ricky concert he's not doing any chris brown he can't move like He's kind of standing there sweating in a hilarious leather outfit with giant shoulders.

26:11Jason Stewart:He's wearing something he shouldn't wear, actually. It's so hot. I think that the... He's kind of just standing there. What's fascinating to me is that all of the homies who he has crumbled up and thrown into his Rick waistbasket have been resurrected and invited back. And they're having to defend. Kid Cudi's getting into it with Peter Rosenberg. And Kid Cudi's like, you don't understand. I'm torn. Two besties of mine fighting again. You don't understand. That's family. It's like Puck and Blackbird spy playing. The mom and my parents are fighting again. My parents are fighting. But it's sort of like, dude, well, he's not your family.

26:48Let's be clear. He gave you a record deal. This guy's not your legal uncle. He's a musician that you've been friends with for a long time.

26:57Jason Stewart:You guys hung out with each other for a good four and a half months, you know, 11 years ago. Yeah, it's like, I know that's OG, and I know you're happy to be back, but just be like, I mean, Kid Cudi's response, besides the family bit, was honestly pretty like, bro, fuck you, I don't care. Which I kind of, he was like, bro, I don't give a fuck. This is my OG, like, we have to forgive people. The world is healing. We're siding with a statement that Kid Cudi made, you know, so maybe things are. well Peter I mean Peter Rosenberg is insufferable so that's partly I think you have to remember who the enemy is here but I just I find it all like of course twist is there twist ain't got shit else to do but like yeah he's like just let you guys know I could still I'm still available to make you a celebrity overnight if anyone's interested look good I have to say in the picture he looked good he looked healthy but I just up the way govy with the fucking with the glow pack it's just it's just it's just very it's just very funny that people I just I've never seen something where some people care so so much and other people are like what are you even talking about I would there's no world where I wouldn't consider going to see Kanye West play in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois so I could get a little kick push from Lupe in hour two it's it's the most it's so interesting because Kanye West it's like you're living in Louisville and Ella Langley's in town with Drake.

28:19Jason Stewart:What else are you going to do? You're going to go watch? I would feel conflicted about going to see Kanye West, but I feel like I would go for the sport of it because I want to see... I'm more interested in who's there, even though I sort of know who's there. I want to see them in action. Yeah, you want to observe people... We saw that video of that guy who had the hoodie tried around his waist when he was rapping along at the Kendrick Lamar concert. Yeah, that's exactly what Kendrick Lamar concert is. that going on yeah but unfortunately you know just the way the same way that sometimes you want to like drive by and see what's going on in that clan rally or whatever like once you get in there with the people and you start looking under the hood you're like oh yeah look i know i wasn't at january 6th i don't care what the haters say i know i know but but also for every one of those awful per you know awful people in the pit doing their bad stuff there are you know tens of thousands of people who are just hard-working honest god-fearing people who happen to love america's songbook and what it has done to them and the music that's how powerful it is you just forget that you're at a clan rally when the song is just hitting too good imagine if hitler had had bops dude we'd be in a different world we'd be living in a different world right now he could sing like kelly clarkson oh baby but i but i also think that we get wrapped up in our little world that is extremely extremely online and talking about this stuff constantly and most people are like yo i love kanye west he's coming to town i'm gonna buy a ticket they're not they're not worried about the optics of posting a story when fucking all falls down is playing you know what i mean like it's just that's no no they're like i bought my wife these tickets 11 months ago because she beat cancer and this is her favorite song that got her through chemo and this you know it transcends you know like a viral video where kanye said something one time to sneeko on a yeah like i think three years i think that people that we know are so heavily knowledgeable about the situation and follow it whether we want to or not because of our algorithms and where we're at and i would say 65 ,000 of those people at the 70 ,000 person show are like, yo, I took the day off.

30:40This is going to be lit. Me and the homies are going to see Kanye West. And it's sort of like, you forget that. You forget that when you're wrapped up in, when you are forced to live the way we live and you're forced to see what we're forced to see.

30:52Jason Stewart:And we're also living in these sort of J.D. Vance end times that we're living in right now. The concert and live music landscape has changed so much you you know you either have to be a billboard top 10 artist or have a catalog of decades worth of music and songs that you you know the value proposition of seeing you live is is tough and the amount of people that are able to really do that who are really able to be like hey i'm gonna fill you know seven eighty thousand people stadiums i could if you want to do it eight we'll do it eight yeah you know we'll play soldier field every night until we want to stop and you know you you read all the the music industry things and like here's the the ticket sales for the rick ross and ti tour you know they did they moved 140 tickets last week and we'll see what happens this week there's only 78 000 more to go and to see if they're gonna you know so like it's very hard to to do that and not very many people can and we kind of were we're willing to go see a Nazi.

31:57Jason Stewart:That's how tough it's gotten. No, it's for real. Because all those people, we got to get a babysitter, call off work. My friend had to cover my shift. I had to do this. It takes a lot. We got to get dinner. Me and three other people, we're going to rent the little tour. We're going to get the bus. Well, let's be honest. It's going to be the night of our lives. Well, we're going to get the galaxy gas, the big one. that's really that's really you know the one that has a kickstand yeah you got to eat first before you could take that much gas down but like whatever we're talking wendy's or something light it's not gonna it's not gonna set us back financially it's a real beer before liquor situation gas is dessert gas is not the appetizer honestly if you're gonna take anything from how long gone gas is dessert don't forget that do not gas before wow and speaking of dessert that is gas I want to give a thank you.

32:52Jason Stewart:A thank you to my how long gone co-host Chris Black for hitting me with the Joe's Stone Crab birthday dry ice pack touchdown. Yeah, I thought, you know what? I thought that it feels like the key lime pie was maybe overboard with all the claws. No, no, no. No, no, no. The only, you know, what's better than getting a brick in the mail, Chris? That's right. Two bricks. That's right. No, you're right. Okay. Because you open up the box and you're like, I know exactly what this is. Joe's stone crab, dry ice. We're going to open it up and there's going to be a key lime pie in there. And wouldn't you know it?

33:29Jason Stewart:Key lime pie, bada bing, bada boom. But then wouldn't you know, there's another brick in there. And I'm like, is that just more dry ice? Because that's how Joe does it over at Gold Belly. But no, claws in there. I just feel like you can't have one without the other as far as the Joe's experience goes. That would be unfair. It's true. I mean, like you could, but like you could do cocaine and not smoke a pack of cigarettes. Yeah, but who wants to? Who wants to? What is it? Do you have all the, I guess what I did forget when I was sending you this birthday gift, what is required for claw cracking?

34:05Do you own those devices?

Read the full transcript

34:06Jason Stewart:We can crack over here in Glendale, brother. Don't you worry about us. Okay. Okay. I assumed. Yeah, there's more than one way. I think the king crab claws, usually what they do is they'll just run a scissor along and just cut a little seam, like the back of my secretary stockings. But yeah, so then at that point, you can just kind of get in there with your fingers and kick push. Is it a shitload of crab claws? I couldn't really tell. I haven't gone in all the way yet because the crab claws were in a bag of ice, which were then in a box of dry ice, just really making sure. So it's still in that bag, but I'm assuming it's said on the receipt it's a meal.

34:50Jason Stewart:It's crab claws for two. Okay. I just wonder. I think crab claws for two, I just feel like I don't really know what that means necessarily, like visually. In this house, that means I'm going to probably go a little hungry. No, I'm the only way Carol puts down a crab claw. Am I right? Well, that's why I didn't send you a crawfish boil because I didn't want you to lay down newspaper all over the house. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Like we need any more corn cobs, spent cobs in this house. There was a scene on the Valley, that Bravo show, where Brittany, one of the women on the show, hosted people for a seafood boil that was delivered to her from whatever the famous place is.

35:30And she did it on her kitchen island. And I was just like, that smell, that might never, Studio City might never recover. Like that smell, like that seeped into the marble. Like there's no way that that house.

35:45Jason Stewart:People say Lupe's still scrubbing, still scrubbing that with the magic eraser and they still can't get the smell of shrimp heads out of there. There is no way that dumping out a fucking fragrant, if you have to wear gloves to eat inside your own home, like why didn't you do this? you have a pool. Like, just do it in the backyard. Lay that shit on the grass if you have to. Part of the deal of Studio City is you have a backyard, and the backyard probably also has an island. Dude, I was blown away. It, like, stuck with me. I was like, this is... What we're seeing here is unprecedented, and I don't know if everyone's noticing.

36:19You know, it felt like... I was, like, looking over at Alex being like, are you seeing this? This is fucking insane. But I didn't hear any more about it.

36:26Jason Stewart:But when you're in the Valley, nobody knows that you're doing a wrong thing to correct anyway. so you're just like that's the whole point you know we're in the kitchen where the food happens so it's yeah i mean in that way you're right i guess it was in the kitchen it was in the kitchen where the food i've only had a handful of uh crawfish balls at somebody's house but then they have always taken place in the outdoors it just seems what because what and also because they have an autistic son and a dog doors all closed you know what i mean like the the you can't Like, do you have to be safe? There's too much stimuli outside.

37:00Jason Stewart:So although you have... Bro, seafood boil, we're cracking all the windows, honey. No, I'm... All the vents over the stove, they're pumping. It seemed like we were airtight. It seemed like you were on a plane. That's how sealed it felt. It was a fully sealed home. On the screen, that's how it felt. In real life, I can't be sure. I don't know. I mean, it doesn't matter if it's literal or not. Just the way it makes you feel, that's tough. and uh i guess speaking of smells in the kitchen i was just reminded when we were talking about something earlier i forgot but um have you smelled we were in we uh when we were in paris we had dinner with um our friends leah and miles miles hendrick you know miles um him and his wife and we we got a nice restaurant um plug at this at this place that i don't remember the name of but andre from from paul and andres you know legendary andre serra the graffiti artist in hotel hotelier graffiti artisan hotelier hooked us up with the res at this place and they had it was just you know it's the cute french bistro it's the stir crazy of paris or whatever um but they had dree's hand soap yeah in the bathroom and everyone was going in there and coming back saying and i i i have never i don't know if i know about this i i i've seen it before once i googled the bottle but i don't know if i've ever smelled it and i don't know why everyone's going the packaging is really really good on all of their fragrance products because it's a relatively new category it's like that that's launched like the last two three years so it's it's relatively new so you're not behind i have smelled some of that stuff but not something that made me stand at attention like you're describing okay well you know we'll see if sandy claus brings it alongside your um your daily mail i'm sure plus plus i'm sure i'm sure someone took a picture of it we have the the name uh but the packaging is really good too carolyn i already already had carolyn pull it up and she said i think because the design of the bottle is so iconic that you you buy the bottle once and then you keep it forever pass it down to your grandkids whatever and then you could buy most of these yeah that's most of these which happens for most of these for sure at our house we're on a fucking Augustine is batter subscription service.

39:17You know what I mean? So don't get me started. Really, Dan?

39:20Jason Stewart:Oh, you have to pay for the AB? Tough times. What do they call it, though? A bladder. It comes in like, you know what I mean? It comes in like a... Oh, wait, you know what? I was going to ask you. Have you heard of something called belly? The movie? No. Oh. B-E-L-I. Your favorite friend group is back. 40:42Like a set of Firestone all-season tires. They're designed to deliver confidence-inspiring wet weather traction and a quieter ride, no matter the road, season after season. Firestone all-season tires. For durability, you can count on. Just like people count on you. Firestone. Always dependable. Since 1900.

41:09Jason Stewart:um i have heard of it but i don't it's food related it's like a restaurant recommendation app and i we went to bistro ha last night and they were saying that that has like really changed the game for like certain restaurants like it's it's really hitting them over the head in a good way or a bad way i mean i think in a good way business-wise in a bad way if your friend's trying to get a table you know i think it's just lit but i i was just like i've never heard of this app like i've never i was like what is it i was like is it like the infatuation what's the vibe and she's like yeah kind of but it's just like your friends are recommending or or whatever people you follow and it's it's it's like a ranked system i guess i just never heard of it i'd never seen it and i felt like i was slipping a little bit you know i've heard of it it's this is not the kind of thing that somebody like me a grizzled old food fluencer would use um if food is not your your passion and you just but you really want to have uh you know good food at good restaurants that are hard to get reservations at then you know it totally makes sense for that but i i don't exactly know what it was i pulled up the website and it says elliot and i judy do me a favor go to the go to the picture of them do you see the picture looking at it right now look at her leg do you see do you see the strap hanging down yes that's crazy okay so yeah i'm on belly app backslash meet the team um and it's elliot and judy uh they met a new york undergrad and they love blah blah blah but they struggle to find reliable reviews are a good place to track their adventure i know dude it's crazy i look for restaurant reviews in new york times and they're just not there i don't know where to go i don't the new york magazine doesn't have any i don't know where to go so poor elliot his little gay ass he's like yeah i would love to track my adventures he said he said what if there was a strava for restaurants in the west village we were looking at this last night and alex was like that's crazy i'm like what are you talking about she's like do you see that and i was like oh yeah that is kind of crazy that That didn't get taken out in Photoshop.

43:17Jason Stewart:See, this is what happens when we don't hire the right people. Little things like that go through the tracks. But I guess when you're building belly, you're not prioritizing the way you look. You're barely eating. You're barely sleeping. You're prioritizing how you're able to see where your friends are eating by geo-tracking their location. And they're at this place called Katzez Deli. I don't know. I'm going to give it a try. I'm a great NY noodle stuff It's right down the street Great NY noodle stuff No I mean that sounds very helpful I just I can't imagine being If I'm coming to But the thing is I still don't know what it does I think it's basically like a All of this other shit Where you follow somebody and then you see the recommendations I think it's just like There's a hundred of these now and this one's maybe just restaurant focused and it's not as good as postcard.

44:14That's my guess.

44:15Jason Stewart:What is? What is? Okay, so if you're like, because of my guilt, I feel like me and seven other women in tech want to go eat at a really good restaurant in Harlem, but we don't have the time to try all of them and see which ones we like and don't like. We're only going to go once and we need to develop an app that's going to give us the best idea to where we can eat some mofongo in Harlem or whatever. Like, I'm going to, I've heard Rolo's is really good, but it's in Ridgewood, and, like, I need to try it. And the value prop on that systematic analysis is not really good for my mission statement.

44:54I mean, the systematic analysis from fucking some, like, whatever the West Village girl of Austin is or whatever is not, that's my thing with shit like this. I'm, like, a little bit, like, this is where gatekeeping comes in. I want to hear from an expert. I want to hear from somebody I either want to hear from a friend that I actually know In real life to be like Chris I know you would like this because I know what you like Or I want to read about it in a publication That has a reason to exist That's all I'm asking for I don't I'm just saying like somebody I don't know Who's like sort of hot that goes to TikTok restaurants Is like I don't I guess that's where most people take their advice from So I think we're in the minority here

45:34Jason Stewart:Yeah because you want to take advice From somebody who reminds you of you and you know will this person or the aspirational you or the aspirational yeah or the aspirational you for sure and you know for me unfortunately as it pertains to things going in my mouth i want that person to be you know kind of a fat six three six four hung i mean you know no i mean i want to get my restaurant restaurant recommendations gold you don't want to get them From a guy or a girl who like... You don't want... They love and obsess. They know about food and know about it so much that they're willing to do that instead of making a baseline wage.

46:18Jason Stewart:I want somebody to be driving a Saturn from 1998 that's still cooking and I want them to spend all of their money on food and the exploration of it. I mean, I love... Not somebody with a hat on it that says something stable. Stable. No, it says. Stableman Metalwood. It says Austin upside down on it. And they get ready with me to run 15 miles. The name is Stableman Metalwood. Get ready with me to run 15 miles today. And, you know, we popped the top a little bit. It's honestly, I agree with you, but I think that this is like, it's clearly a gold mine. I mean, it must work, you know. Yeah, for sure.

46:55And I don't.

46:56Jason Stewart:Yeah, but I mean, the joke is on me. You know, they're. yeah they're good maybe enjoying their life more so you know it's the same thing as the guy like you're like oh i'm a i'm a rolex expert and then you see you see him and they're like yeah i spend you know 80 hours of my week in a basement you know hanging out with a bunch of fat guys farting it up and eating you know like my life sucks that's how much i'm obsessed with yeah and selling of rolex if you're truly obsessed with something it should affect your life negatively is the is the truth and it's only okay when they're when you're like a 12 year old and you discover guitar because you have nothing but time.

47:32You have nothing to ruin.

47:33Jason Stewart:Yeah, or maybe certain people, the way they look, they should only be allowed to review certain foods. I mean, I'm not. If you see one of these baddies doing reviews of places, they should only be reviewing acai bowls. I was going to say, acai bowls, lattes, lavender, lavender only. And that's good because that's what I want. I want to hear from an authority on the matter. I want to hear from somebody who eats their food. Yeah, I'm going to buy whatever sports bra you tell me to, and I'm going to eat the acai bowl. But the rest of it, yeah, I don't. When it's carnitas time, step aside, bitch. The ethnic cuisine, I just have to be honest.

48:16I don't trust you. I don't super trust you just based on.

48:20Jason Stewart:I want to be led by somebody who has to take their shoes off for medical reasons. Yeah, that's true. None of these chicks have gout. I want somebody to look like the Times Square stabber if it's tortilla talk. Yeah. You know what I mean? No, I completely agree. I completely agree. But yeah, I think belly is going to have the last laugh. Did you see... Not if we have anything to do with it. Did you see Liam and Noel at Venice? Oh, baby. I saw Liam, Noel, and Phoebe Bridger's leg hair. Liam with the double-breasted open? Yeah, yeah. Looking fly? Noel crying during the standing ovation? This is what we need.

48:56Are you fucking movie nerds? This is a fucking movie. finally okay a movie with some fucking nuts it's not you know this is a real this is real shit

49:04Jason Stewart:this is we finally got some a movie with some fucking nuts oh sick what's it about well it's a documentary it's a documentary about a band reuniting where grown men cry about it yeah it's it's it's nuts hang stuff but i can't i am very excited to see it i have to say and i i will say i'm excited for the for the adidas merch pop-up for the documentary as well it's going to be fucking sick i'm not i'm not opposed to that either i'm i'm um i'm i have to say i might make an exception and see the the fucking prime time it looks too good it looks too good he's he's been on a tear lately lance looked good too lance lance was wearing a great tuxedo i i told him i told him i was like lance yeah we need to get lance back on lance looked good but i i mean he was a good guest phoebe was looking very femme and beautiful and then several baristas had to point out the leg hair which i wouldn't have noticed i have no issue with do you but i i do think it's a funny um don't put words in my mouth i just love that it's like they they're trying to like make that a symbol like like she's still like she's like guys she's walking the red carpet at the venice film festival and like custom gucci is she just don't shave her legs this is not a symbol to the to you this is not like a bat signal yeah i don't i don't think it's a bat signal i think in 2026 it's not even really a political statement or like even it's sort of not even noteworthy we're just talking about it because we're old enough to have it be like oh that's a thing but like i think for gen alpha gen gen zed it's sort of business as usual uh you know if you hang out in in young people's young folks spaces you see you see a bad bitch with hairy legs every day and you know i think it's just some great normalization for the culture and i think that more and more people out there you know because you you i see articles about you know men are are not showering before dates so they can pheromone max and attract their alpha mates in the wilds um i think dudes who are like i i'm looking at this picture of phoebe bridger she's a beautiful blonde woman with a with a um you know an elegant gown on and and makeup and she looks like a princess that you'd read about in a fairy tale and she has hairy legs probably like how women had you know in the in the 1400s or whatever and dudes are realizing that like hey maybe I'm kind of into that sexually.

51:27Jason Stewart:Yeah, I'm cool with this. On a deep Cro-Magnon level. This has stirred something deep inside of me that I wasn't expecting. That's very possible. Which is what queer spaces are all about. She looked great. She really did look good. I think it's cool she's in the movie. I mean, I don't, you know. But I think our boy is really, I'm reading that our boy is the steal in the show. The guy from, God damn it, Righteous Gemstones. The son from Righteous Gemstones. I always forget his name because I don't really know his name. His face is so recognizable to me. Not Skyler. Skyler. Yeah, Skyler Giorano or something.

52:03Jason Stewart:Skyler Gissondo. Yeah. What a weird name. Skyler Gissondo. But he looks more like a Skyler than anything in the world. The beauty of Skyler Gissondo is you could put a wig and makeup on him and he would be a hot woman. And you could put regular clothes on it and he would be a hot man. and he's also like 5 '6", you know, probably 5 '5". He's a little guy. Just a ball of energy and charm and smiles and he's a true star. But they're saying he really goes toe-to-toe with Pattinson. They said he's really, really bringing his own. But yeah, I like him. He looked good on the red carpet too. Skylar, come on the pod.

52:42Skylar kind of tipped the scales for him. Like, I don't really care about this. But then when I heard Skylar was in it, I'm just like, anybody that was that good on a Danny McBride show, i'm kind of in on yeah you know if they if they're able to do something else i'm i'm pretty for it

52:55Jason Stewart:yeah yeah yeah he's he's um he's verified and certified on imdb um all did you see about this speaking of the entertainment industry the the wheel of fortune announcer his uh his airplane incident oh yeah oh yeah that is bad i love it it reminded me of um uh tubing who got caught jacking off on a fucking on a zoom call zoom i mean dick and balls all out on the zoom call but he was he was uh he was on a flight sitting in not first class he was he did not have a door to close or anything he was just in a you know he was sitting in 40 41 b pulled his laptop out, logged on to a private child pornography chat board that looks like, you know, it looks like web 1.0.

53:48Like it looks crazy.

53:49Jason Stewart:He had to fire up the tour, which is a type of browser that you use, you know, undetectable browsing. Oh, he used something called onion, which is like a type I've never heard of before. I just read about it. It's like another, you know, encrypted browser level. So, you know, he's going through all these things on the airplane, which is like, you know, you're not like I'm going to hop onto this random IP address from the Starbucks by my house or whatever. Like you're on an airplane and it's going to be, you know, there's an FBI guy who can just wait and go through every person's laptop on the plane because it's going to be one of you.

54:29Jason Stewart:And people in the chat room are like, bro, what are you talking about? You're on an airplane. We are a pedophile message board. Or do we kind of keep it on the low? What if someone is over your shoulder taking a photo up the screen? And he's like, LOL, very funny. Somebody took a photo of the screen, posted it. He's wearing a Wheel of Fortune jacket with the logo hit on there. So he's like a famous-ish guy saying, you know what I mean? It's like Michael Jordan walking around. You're like, is it? But he's wearing like head-to-toe Nike with the Jordan logo. And you're like, okay, that's probably him.

55:02Jason Stewart:Dude, I mean, look, he's an announcer. He's not famous. like famous but wearing the jacket is is pretty unbelievable circumstance yeah i would say i mean i guess i guess he he's he'd been rocking for so long he wanted to see how far he could uh fly to the sun it's so crazy it's it's so crazy it's so dumb 33 34 000 feet is what we found out also also like everybody knows that like if you're i don't i mean i know photographers that have like screen blockers so that people aren't looking at the images they're editing it's not uncommon like i I see people with shit blocking their screen all the time on the plane.

55:36That's not uncommon.

55:37Jason Stewart:I'm punching up an episode of How I Met Your Mother. You ain't taking a look at this. This guy over here, he's doing something. I'm like, bro, if you're going to be on an illegal chat room that looks like – if you see that on someone's screen, you know it's bad because it looks so weird. It looks so different. He's doing something. Well, it looks so different than what the internet looks like now. Do you know what I mean? It does. It looks totally different where it sticks out. You see it and you're like, oh, you're in the FBI or FBI is about to be looking for you. Yeah. There's two ways this is going to go.

56:09You're either in the FBI or they want to catch you. There's two ways it's going to go.

56:13Jason Stewart:Are you are you in my six? Are you about to be in my six? Dude, it's crazy. It's honestly crazy. What an insane story. What an insane story. Jeopardy Twitter state. But it also is. It also goes back to like our quote unquote surveillance state. You know what I mean? And it's like when the lawyer is making out with his side chick in the park and somebody, you know, it's like, dude, leave this guy. Leave him alone. Like, that's insane. You can't. You shouldn't do that. That's what the flock cameras are for, buddy. You don't need to get in there and ruin his day. But all these cops, all these cops being like, sir, you checked the flock, your ex, you checked your ex-wife's flock camera 400 times in two days, officer.

56:53Like, we're going to have to suspend you for that. It's like, dude.

56:56Jason Stewart:And he's like, oh, y 'all can see that? This obviously is the rare example of cleaning up the streets. But I think that let's not get too, you know, this is a once in a lifetime needle in a haystack situation. I don't think this is going to be how it goes down most times. Yeah. I doubt. Yeah. In this situation, you did not just create one million pedophiles. you made one million pedophiles be like, hey, maybe not on the plane. Yeah, maybe just maybe not on the plane or at least have a door that closes, like you said, at least that. Yeah, another win for the Emirates suites. Yeah. Browse away. Yeah, browse, do what you got to do.

57:41Emirates, hey, we leave you alone. You pay 10K. Bro, you do whatever you want up there, bro. I'm good.

57:47Jason Stewart:You a grown-ass man, you want to run Coco back? Go for it. do whatever you got to do this flight's long too so you can watch it two three times if you if you need to do you have to read that that uh that book with kind of large print that is so fucking funny uh i speaking of books i did finish them a cline book and uh it's tough man it's tough i i'm having a lot of conflicted feelings about it because it's like really really good but it's basically like you are reading a guy like you're basically following a guy through his mental decline to go get have assisted suicide so it's obviously okay so we're talking about switzy yeah it's not light material by any means on the heels of uh daddy and the guest yeah but it's like i don't know i'm interested to see it's it's like a tough subject matter that's like it's i mean you know it's beautifully written it's great but it's sort of like it felt hard to get through because it was just it just got gnarlier and gnarlier as it went on kind of gotta be in the mood for yeah i mean because um yeah the guest it was like oh you know a party chick is gonna kind of going from house to house doing pills that's the good stuff fucking dudes you're like okay this is this is a spot i can live in yeah so it's it's about somebody finna die yeah finna die but it's like he's losing his facilities and he has like a he has like a sort of like an employee who's with him all the time taking care of everything who's also like obviously stands to benefit from that relationship financially but it's fine it's just sort of like it's just all kind of crazy but it's also it's on a private plane it's in like a five-star hotel so there is like a little bit of glamour to it um hashtag luxury he's like uh i'm on my way to zurich and like oh fancy what are you going there for he's like well it's the last trip kind of last thing i'm just wrapping up some loose ends over in Zurich.

59:38Jason Stewart:The description I'm reading as David's arrival in Zurich looms, an exquisitely rendered portrait of an unraveling mind emerges, both darkly humorous and profoundly moving. Did you find it to be darkly humorous? There's some funny parts. Giggles on? The last five pages are kind of unbelievable. It's on some human existence shit. But it's, I don't know, man. It's just gnarly. I'm interested to see commercially how it will be. Again, because like you said, it's like a hot chick doing pills in the Hamptons is like, everybody likes that. That's that, you know, that's what's the book about. Don't care.

1:00:14Jason Stewart:Yeah, exactly. What happens at the end? Don't remember. This is, this is a little heavier subject matter wise, but there was a, there was a nice, there's a story in the financial times today with her, like an interview with her. And she just, I mean, she's so eloquent at all. Like it's good. You know what I'm saying? I was saying this to know me. I'm like, it's good. And I know it's good, but it was like hard to get through in a way when I like a book, usually I sit down and fly through it. If that makes sense. So it's like a different, it was just a different experience, which I wasn't super familiar with.

1:00:43Right, right, right. Cause if I don't like something, I'll just stop. I don't care. Whatever. If I read 50 pages, something like the same for me, I'll just put it down. I got too many books to read. So it's like, it's fine. But this, I felt compelled to finish it, even though it was hard to read.

1:00:56Jason Stewart:Yeah. It's sort of reminding the Zurich of it all is reminding me of that movie from a few years ago, anatomy of a fall. Yeah, yeah. I remember that. I didn't see it, but I remember the name. It's a beautiful, amazingly done film with heartwarming moments and dark humor and blah, blah, blah. But it's about a guy who falls down the stairs in his house and dies. And they have to figure out if the wife did it or not. And it's just like, here's a two-hour movie where we're just kind of going through a crime scene and murder and blood. Yeah, I know this is good. I know this is good. Oh, it's powerful.

1:01:33Jason Stewart:I know I'm going to walk away from this moved, but we ain't always trying to move. Just what we were talking about before. We don't always want the Michelin Thai food. Sometimes we want that little slop. You know what I mean? Dude, I love slop. Give me the slop. How long gone? Give me the slop. Give me the slop. Thank you for listening.
