In short

The hosts return from vacation and riff on New York energy, “back to school” momentum, fashion at the beach (hoodie-dress/poncho trend), sports talk (college football, Naomi Osaka, baseball efficiency/highlights), and a long conversation with guests about Nashville life and birding tech. They also discuss personal stories (sneaking alcohol into a Dr. Dog show, near-arrest/drunk tank, scooter/helmet laws, pickups/trucks) and wrap with ads and “BetterHelp”/other sponsor segments.

Guests

Will and Charlie (How Long Gone regulars). They live in the Nashville area (Ridgewood/Donaldson, across the Cumberland River). They’re musicians with a new album Big World in stores now; they’ve been touring (including Europe with Wilco) and are playing New York at Webster Hall on Nov 4. They’re still based in Nashville.

Key claims

Justin/hosts argue the Bible is the “favorite book” (in a separate Baldwin/Youth magazine tangent). The birding trend is driven by window-watching and tech (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth bird feeders). Nashville is “Burning Man” for them (big talk, limited visits).

Notable examples

Wi-Fi bird feeders with photo capture; Flock.com stadium photo frames for families; LSU beating Clemson 10-51; baseball first-pitch logistics; sneaking a Jim Beam flask into Stubbs for Dr. Dog.

0:48how long gone we're back baby it's it's we're done vacation's over you losers got to leave the beach get back in front of the fucking machines it's time to lock in you forgot your dropbox password that's too bad oh man we're back baby it's it's the first day of the rest of our lives jason do you feel the energy it's palpable in new york city the sun is out it's a beautiful

1:08Jason Stewart:day i woke up i fired up my squarespace i just started making websites for all my new business ideas i came up with on holiday that's what happens when you do coke on holiday i love the follow-through um we should totally do a bed and breakfast babe i woke up today and i was thinking about reading my favorite book so i was able to crack a kind of tattered king james version of the bible um so i was able to like like justin bieber we all have a favorite book and um you know i could go through the list blah blah blah but if we're keeping it a buck obviously there's one book jason the good book the bible and i i think that you i know you side with me on this too i mean if you have to name one book i mean you know what i mean like sure there's lots of other books out there that'll make you look cool and more fuckable to people like hayley bieber but when you really gotta you know it's like hey you know all-time favorite food you know death row you gotta eat this for the rest of your life you know are you am i gonna get the foie gras with a gold leaf no you know with caviar on top or am i gonna get a double double aminal style you know we're getting double the bible is the double double double double animal style of uh last meals there's no there's no question there i let jesus christ hit animal style no onion uh if you if you're the uh double youth uh the new youth focus magazine from wk my sj and uh the pictures are great justin haley shot themselves and uh there's a questionnaire and some of the answers are uh causing a kerfuffle online because justin said his favorite book was the bible and haley said her favorite book was a children's book um

2:52Jason Stewart:and she said her favorite holiday is thanksgiving she also said her favorite movie is the grinch i mean it's it's it you know what these motherfuckers love a holiday let me say something sometimes you're so hot that you shouldn't talk you're so talented that you should get that once a day you shouldn't talk i think we learned shut that big long beautiful mouth up hayley bieber is is white hot unbelievably sexy she's got she's a a businesswoman she's a whitney port of the baldwin family i'll say she's killing the game with her road skincare uh justin is obviously a generational talent you know what i'm good i only want to hear from hear from them if it's music uh or in her case imagery yeah um i i think that they they've they've found where they they excel and when they venture outside of that, it can become scary.

3:44Jason Stewart:Yeah, and I'm sure it was frightening to go down this path and that's why they had to shoot each other for it. But I will also say, as a God-fearing citizen and Canadian, first and foremost, Justin, at this point in his life, he cannot lie. So when they asked him his favorite book, the Bible is the only book that he has read. Not all of it, not all in one sitting. And likely within the last five years. So it's still kind of fresh on the mind. And also, you and I, we think about, you know, like of all the holidays where it's awesome. Thanksgiving, I don't know if it's ranking at the top, but imagine being a kid growing up in the 90s at the Baldwin family Thanksgiving.

4:24Jason Stewart:That was probably fucking amazing. That's a good point. Who knows who's coming over? The food is great, even though none of the women are eating at the table. It doesn't really matter. None of the men are either. Cocaine, baby. You're right. You're right. That you're actually, it all tracks and it all makes sense. And that's why I'm proud of them for their honesty. And I think there's nothing wrong with that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Congratulations to both of them. Much like our forefathers who made Thanksgiving what it is today, they cannot tell a lie. They cannot tell a lie.

4:54Jason Stewart:Honest Beeb, not Honest Abe. Honest Beeb. Honest Beeb. Jesus Christ. I'd love to make an honest woman out of you, Haley Baldwin. Dude, it's so sick. I love it. Go get the issues on newsstands soon. You can go buy it. And is it true that they got the version suicides illustrator to do the little Napoleon Dynamite squiggly? Yeah. They look good. It's cool. Is that because Sofia Coppola is a contributing contributor to youth? Yes, double youth. Double youth, sorry. She is. I think it was sort of, I think like maybe the idea sort of stemmed from her if I remember the story correctly. but then they got um they hired a woman named ava who used to do heaven by mark jacobs as the editor of w so it's it's it's speaking to the it's talking about heaven and speaking to the right generation um bro all right well yeah it's back to school everybody's everybody's itching the emails are flying it feels fucking great the blood is is flowing through my veins um and i This is your boxing day.

6:03Yeah, this is my favorite holiday. It's September the day after Labor Day. I was able to celebrate America at the U.S. Open with Cadillac, and then I was able to just one short sleep. I wake up, and all of a sudden, everything's back. The action is back. The Ghanies are in motion. The planning is starting. I got to go here. I got to go there. Nothing feels better.

6:22Jason Stewart:Yeah, I feel like I'm just in the hour that we're going to be recording this episode. I will be checking into my flight to go to JFK tomorrow. But yesterday, you know, first begrudgingly, but then welcoming it. We went to the beach on Labor Day, you know, Malibu. It's the most, you know, tourist type shit of all time. But it was it felt like we went to a different way. It felt like we were in Louisiana or going to the beach in Texas or something like that. It's overcast. It's kind of hot. It's kind of raining. It's so humid. And there's just families with like Texas Longhorns hats on, throwing the pigskin around, throwing baseballs around.

7:06Jason Stewart:It was like American families all at the beach. I felt like I was in Mad Men or something like that. My heart is beating out of my chest just with the beauty of that picture you just painted. It almost feels – I mean, look, college football is in the air. I was looking at hotels in the Bay Area, and I was like, why the fuck are these hotels so expensive? This is so bizarre. Unfortunately, UC Berkeley, Clemson fucking me up. So now I don't know what I'm saying. Clemson boys are in town. Good luck getting a hotel in Silicon Valley. Exactly. It's crazy. You think that the tech billionaires are ruining everything?

7:43Check out college football fans, okay? They're the original ruining everything, guys.

7:46Jason Stewart:Well, I think yesterday or two days ago, Clemson, they were taken down by LSU 10-51. Okay. All right. Well, I mean, look. And also the funny part is the LSU Tigers, Clemson Tigers, is a Tiger brawl. I didn't know that there were multiple teams called Tigers. Oh, yeah. You didn't realize that every school in the world is a Tiger or a Lion or a Patriot? But I got home last night from the U.S. Open, and I was happy to see that Naomi Osaka had lost, and she was wearing Kid Super for that match. So I don't know if those things are intertwined. When I die, bury me inside the Superstore. I don't know what happened there, but I just want to say, she said tennis isn't my job.

8:32Being a mother is my job, and tennis is my hobby, and I'm just really good at it. and I've never seen someone be so miserable at their job. It's like she works at McDonald's on the graveyard shift. It's unbelievable.

8:44Jason Stewart:Yeah, tennis is not her job, even though she gets paid more money than every teacher on planet Earth combined to do it. She only made, like Jason, Jason, Jason, she only made$55 million last year, okay? And only$1.5 million of that was from tennis. So let's put some respect on the brand deal name. My job is to do a black cent on Apple and Spotify. I don't get paid$55 million and I have the time of my life. I got a smile on my face every day. I love this shit. That's because you're wearing basketball shorts and a tank top. You know what I mean? There's a correlation there, I think, maybe with what's happening.

9:20Jason Stewart:I look like three kids dressed up as AI in one of those big trench coats trying to sneak into a movie. But actually, fashion trend, hashtag menswear, all of us menswear podcasters were running out of stuff to talk about. And I was at the beach observing all of these out-of-towners, and I noticed a lot of high school-age dudes who have the baby gronk haircut and the crazy relief pitcher glasses and chrome heart slides and whatever bullshit they were on. but they're all wearing the sort of t-shirt, moo-moo hoodie dress, like the one-piece, like total body poncho kind of thing. Do you know what this is rooted in?

10:12Jason Stewart:Do you know where this came from? Hell, I don't know exactly. When I was a kid growing up in the OC, unless you were just rescued out of the water and you're suffering from hypothermia or whatever, if you were to wear a hoodie dress at the beach because it got a little too nipply for your your uh hurley board shorts whatever the amount of people that would call you a fag is just you would be run out of do you think it's do you well i'm asking but is it sort of one of those is it made out of that sort of sun shirt material that's popular with fishermen in the american south some of them were sun shirty and then some of them were just like almost felt like terry cloth it looked like something that like robe vibes like a like a filipino boxer would wear as they're coming down the you know the hallway to the coming down the aisle oh okay okay and they're they're trainers he's able to sort of maybe it's slit up the sides and you can kind of lift it up over your head easily sounds like look jason it sounds like a functional garment to me i'm not a fan of it i'm not a fan of it but if you're really hitting the waves functional garment but these are these are these surfers are these more of a skim boarder body boarder type because there's a big difference Skin border, body border, skin border, body border.

11:23Because the swag surfers, they get up early. They say annoying words. It's a swaggy bunch. Let's be honest. Surfing is cool and always has been cool. Anything that's related to surfing but isn't surfing is kind of for nerds.

11:37Jason Stewart:They're standing in a bike lane of an open freeway, zipping up neoprene from behind. Imagine being hot enough to just drive shirtless to the beach at 5 a.m. and stand barefoot, you know, while you zip up your neoprene and wax your board. Or imagine being so old like me that you drove home shirtless.

12:01Jason Stewart:Okay, Chris. Well, I didn't want to bring it up. I didn't want to bring up the real feel, but the real feel is real, Chris. Today, I mean, tomorrow in Los Angeles, because of the El Nino humidity being trapped in our atmosphere, the real feel of LA is 116 thank god you're coming to beautiful New York City alright we have a guest today two guests a friend of ours has been on the show before I've seen them play a lot they have a new album Big World in stores now I believe actually they are playing yeah they're playing in New York at Webster Hall on November the 4th there's some tickets available they just did Europe with Wilco everything's going well for the fellas except they still live in Nashville I think which you can't win them all So let's give them a jingle and see what's crackalackin'.

12:50How Long Gone is brought to you by Squarespace. You know what time it is, Jason. It's time to surf the World Wide Web. And when I see websites that work, that look good, that allow me to make transactions, often those websites are built on the Squarespace platform.

13:05Jason Stewart:Oh, yeah. That's right, Chris. Let's say you got a little pop-up. I started making picking duck out of my trailer park in Torrance, California, and I want to build that business. I want to, you know, we're moving into the next level. It's not so much just like, oh, yeah, here, it's cash and give me that and blah, blah, blah, and put it under. No, no, no, no, no. We have payment systems. We have payroll systems. We have email services. We're not just doing some things the olden days. We can now have business-level tools that, you know, the competition is using just by you inside of your little trailer.

13:37That's a blessing because we all got to be able to make money, and the best way to make money is using a website that you built on Squarespace. Go to squarespace.com slash howlong for a free trial. And when you're ready to launch, use offer code howlong to save 10 % off your first purchase of a website or a domain. Squarespace. Jason, we're often working out. We're spending time outdoors. We're traveling. But also, we just want to feel our damn best. And what I'm told helps is hydration. I need my energy, my focus, my workouts. I need it on 10. I need to be primed. And that's where instant hydration comes in.

14:10I pour this shit in my water. I shake it up and I'm ready to fucking rock.

14:15Jason Stewart:Yeah, Chris, we got that nice French gray sea salt in there. Imported from France, of course. Zero sugar, 500 milligrams of sodium. We got potassium, magnesium, aquamin, an ocean-sourced mineral complex with calcium trace minerals. Minimals, but the most important thing, if it doesn't taste good, we're not going to pour it into our water bottles and drink it after Pilates. I'm literally drinking it right now. I believe it's a little kind of a strawberry lemonade kind of thing. And I do like the flavor. So, you know, there's a zillion of these little beautiful vitamin hydration electrolyte packets out there in the world.

14:53Jason Stewart:And this is a great one that I use all the time. Get your sodium, get potassium, get your magnesium, get your Aquaman. Potassium. For a better way to say hydrated, go to instanthydration.com slash howlong and use my promo code howlong for over 40 % off your first subscription order. It's Instant Hydration's best offer available. That's instanthydration.com slash howlong. Promo code howlong. Jason, I recently went for a full panel with the doc, went through all the shit. And I felt like I know he was doing his best to explain it to me, but I left feeling, and this is not a new feeling for me, I left feeling dumber about my own body.

15:34And I need a fix for that, and I feel like you might have it.

15:36Jason Stewart:Yeah, I feel like your insights were not insightful enough. We need to maintain our testosterone, our estrogen levels, our thyroids, our cortisol. And Superpower handles over 150 of those biomarkers, not just the 10 to 15 that you'll get from that dumb old doc. Blood draws are available at over 2 ,000 locations or just at home. Take control of your health with Superpower. For a limited time, our listeners get$20 off their Superpower membership. Head to superpower.com and use code howlong for$20 off. 16:13All right. Howdy, fellas. Will, Charlie, how are you? What's going on? Where are we? We're in your favorite city. We're in your favorite city. Okay, so I didn't know if you both, because I thought maybe, Will, I thought you were an early settler. And then I think, I thought Charlie was holding it down. Somebody has to hold it down in St. Louis, Missouri. So I thought maybe it was him, but you're saying he's made it. You've all reconvened in Nash Vegas. Yes. Things are changing all the time. Things change all the time.

16:40Jason Stewart:Do you spend more money or less money now that you live in Nashville? More. But we also make more money. Yeah, I like that. There we go. That's what I'm talking about, bro. Nuts hang. Yeah, we spend more. We make more. That's the whole thing. Okay, because Nashville, how far east do you guys live? That's the question. It's a little east of East Nashville. Okay, sure, sure. So we're going to keep going. Okay, we're in Ridgewood, Tennessee. All right.

17:09exactly um i mean it's across the cumberland river so it feels like a lifetime away okay um it's it's kind of hard to get to well that's the cumberland for you am i right um you can you can actually kind of bike you can ride a bike to east nashville fast and you can drive because the traffic because the explosion of the city the traffic the the roads the city hasn't been able to figure it out yet they can't handle all the rivians on the road it's a big circle around the city and everybody sits it's just it's crazy it's i don't understand why it works Damn, if you got to wait in traffic to get to the turnip truck on a Tuesday, what are we doing, guys?

17:41I might go back to St. Louis. Fuck it. No, it's just this new thing. It's this new thing called a bridge, and they made a bridge that's just for people and not for cars. Damn. Okay. Shots. So they got a people mover. They're trying to get you on foot in a city that is absolutely not built for walking. No.

17:56Jason Stewart:A lot of similarities to my Los Angeles. They built a bridge a few years ago over the L.A. River, but it's for horses. and I've never won the bridge costs like 30 million dollars of taxpayer money took you know 11 years to build it's the ugliest thing you've ever seen it looks like a fucking like an award trophy for like an evil ice winter Olympics and it's just so bad but you guys we should have the people bridge and y 'all should have the horse bridge over there in Tennessee yeah actually when you think about it we got real cowboys out here I know yeah I've seen them they're on the bachelor there at Barry's boot camp and in the gulch yeah I've seen them real cowboys yeah real cowboys yes is that okay so have you used it have you used this land bridge have either of you tried it just to see what what it's all about you know I'm actually a seasoned bridge user at this point my family likes it okay my daughter likes to ride her bike on it so so I've blocked some hours okay generations of bridge taking over there at the Taylor family yes yes yes we get we get we get our step count up okay okay now when you're with your daughter on a bike and i'm assuming she's pretty small yes she's six now which is crazy okay so are you are you walking alongside her or do you does daddy have a bike as well you know we've tried both but i but i would rather be on foot i've i've realized that trying to ride with her is not worth it because it's just because i really just want to eat like i just want to go so fast yeah yeah you're saying these core memories Wait, that's what eating means?

19:33Jason Stewart:Oh, you're saying you're so hungry that you want to go fast. You weren't describing driving or riding on a bicycle fast as eating in sort of, I don't know, RuPaul's Drag Race kind of way. Yeah. Okay. You're actually trying to get to your destination. Yeah, like I'm actually trying to get there. Yeah, I get it. You want to get to the steak and shake ASAP. Yeah, I like that the core memories you make with your daughter are more about kind of getting to Cafe Rose on time for a fucking soft scramble. It's crazy how you know what I did last night, essentially. I know what you scrambled last night, William.

20:11Well, there's like five places here, so you're bound to know them. No, there's a lot of places. Don't say that. I would say that's the biggest reason to go there is to eat.

20:20Jason Stewart:But I agree with you, Will. I think Chris, he used to be a little Nashville adjacent. And now, because he keeps having all these Nashvilleians on the pod, I think he fancies himself a little bit of a local resident. And he likes to show it off to you. Look, I go to Nashville a couple times a year, if I'm being honest. I go a couple times a year. There's a couple restaurants I like. My friend Jake from high school lives there. He's a successful realtor. I got things to do. I'll go see If somebody's playing the Ryman Maybe I'll go Another name check The Ryman If Benson Boone finally sells it out I'll fucking get a flight It's not a big deal Sorry guys we're having an interpod dispute here This is good You go a couple times a year But you talk about it For the other 11 months People go to Burning Man once a year and they talk about it all fucking year.

21:21Jason Stewart:So Nashville's your Burning Man. Nashville's 100 % my Burning Man. Absolutely, absolutely. But I don't know how much socializing are you guys doing, though, because you're on the road, so you're not really hitting the hot spots that often. I think we're both kind of not about the socializing too much when we get home. We live in Donaldson. It's kind of like not in the cut at all. You can kind of hide out here. Okay. You got a Kroger nearby, but you can hide out. Yeah, a real crusty Kroger out here for sure. And when you've been on tour for months or whatever, why would you want to hang out there?

21:54Jason Stewart:You just got back from New York City or whatever it may be, Austin, Texas. So you have to rest and recharge at home, hit the cold plunge or whatever. You guys can afford it now, right? Definitely. Yeah, yeah. We got the plunge. We got the sauna. My neighbor has a sauna. I'm looking at it right now. Under construction. Yeah. So you can see the sauna, but maybe you're not allowed to use it. No. I can't see inside it. Put up a big fence. Yeah, they built a door. It's fucking bullshit. I can't see inside it. Yeah, yeah. Despite my efforts. I got glasses. I still can't see inside the shoes. I keep peeping.

22:33Charles has got his monocular. Yeah, I do. I'm kind of like amateur birder these days. Oh. And I do be at the back door like that. And I'm just looking at birds, I swear.

22:47Jason Stewart:For listeners at home, when you said like that, imagine he's holding a monocle up to his eye. But not in an old-timey way, in a modern birder kind of way. We've been talking about birding a lot on the pod. We were talking about the Bluetooth Wi-Fi camera bird feeder thing. And my wife actually got her credit card stolen, and the person bought a$250 bird feeder with the MX. No, dude. Let them have it. Let them have it. Charlie's like, I haven't been scraping numbers lately. I'm glad. I'm glad. They're just trying to get their hobbies in. Yeah. They're trying to get their hobby in, man. Well, I mean, they're hot on the resale market.

23:23Jason Stewart:It's the new doge. It's hard to get a good one right now. Just supply and demand stuff. It's free money. Yeah, yeah. What has brought you to birding? Because I feel like it is a... You feel like a meditative guy. It feels like something you would be into, but does something spark your interest to put you over the line? I've been like... I've always been like a look out the mirror or look... Not the mirror. Look out the window. kind of guy quite the opposite freudian that's a cool ass way to describe yourself i'm kind of look out the window guy you know what i mean if i'm keeping it a book it's like it's like first thing in the morning like right now even like i don't know and then i think just after a while i started noticing birds and i mean they're a beautiful creature how can you not notice them right yeah true and then you really start to see them like once you look damn there yeah there you go okay so a boy became a man when you stopped looking at birds and you started seeing them yeah do you have a favorite breed species color is there yo top five breeds of all time baby breed is crazy breed is crazy breed is crazy this is worse than your subway take oh okay five of all time i wish i yeah i can't i can't handle this right now okay i always invent a word you pick a color and then it's a three word answer the first word is a color the second word is throated and the third word is a word that's sort of like a a wobbler or a slobler or of uh you know something like that a verb yeah gobbled up yeah a yellow-throated gobbler you're like cool that sounds like a great bird to check out yeah so but have you have you like bought books or downloaded an app or anything or you're strictly freestyle no i think i bought my wife like a really beautiful coffee table book about birds years ago.

25:12That was like foreshadowing. I don't know, but I haven't even looked at it. Talk about a penny dropper. Uh-huh. Yeah, I really just like kind of, I just kind of like see it and then I Google it. Okay. It's more of an old school approach. You see it, you Google it.

25:27Jason Stewart:You're so old school that you just use AI. You just take a picture and go, what is this? Yeah, that's honestly, that's old school. That is old school now, kind of. Yeah, our friend, I went to his house in - You're a yellow-throated Googler. Sorry, go ahead. In the Hamptons, and he had this bird feeder, and he was shocked that I didn't know that they had these Bluetooth that saves the pictures so you can go over it with your kid. I was like, bro, I'm not a fucking nerd. Why would I know that? Why the fuck would I know that? It's embarrassing that you would think I would know that. You were offended by that.

25:58Yeah. Yeah, I was offended by that. But I just, I didn't, this is, Jason, this is three times a charm. I feel like this is, I think this is really becoming a trend in our age group, guys. And you're a little younger than us, I think. You guys are like late 30s? Mid. Mid. Yeah, yeah. Wow, okay, you're a lot younger than us. Sorry, assholes. Okay, well, I think... Oh, my bad. You said late. Yeah, I'm late. I'm 36 now, yeah. Mid. I'm late 40. That still counts as mid, barely. Yeah. No, it's so mid. 36 is mid. I'm going to give you that. I'm going to say it's mid.

26:29Jason Stewart:Well, I think that, remember for like the last 10 years or so, the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth picture frame that you give to Nana kind of thing. And there have been thousands of podcast ads for them over the years. It's actually kind of good now, but I feel like the Wi-Fi bird feeder is the new gift for Nana ass thing to get. It's going to take over. It has more than 13 photos that never get swapped out, the bird feeder. Do your parents have your parents printed out photos from Instagram and put them in a frame in their home? Wow. Yeah. They have. I knew it. Because all of them do it. All parents do it.

27:10That's a really interesting one. That's a fun one. I mean, I think it was before maybe we would ever even think she would do that. She kind of snuck under the radar because it didn't even cross our mind when she had the way we thought to do it. Yeah, like there's no way she would figure this out.

27:29Jason Stewart:and then she's not within the realm of possibilities for you. She's stuck in there on that. Me and my brother recently took our 90-plus-year-old grandmother and our dad to a Texas Ranger game. Anyways, our grandma lives in Mississippi. We got her down, and it was this whole thing, and our family friend that helped bring her, sent me a thank-you note recently, and it had an 8x12 printed photo from the game and my head just like blew up. It was crazy. Like, how did you find that? Was that an official Texas Ranger photographer? Take that? Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Did they know you were in the building?

28:11Like, was it that kind of situation? I know. It was just some shit, like some photos she took with her phone. Burned it.

28:17Jason Stewart:This is flock cameras, bro. It's flock cameras. It's like when you go to the Mexican restaurant and you leave with the little Polaroid for the refrigerator. Same kind of thing, but with a stadium. Yeah, like the roller coaster. 30 ,000 people in it. That is really nice. They're going to start selling frames. You can go on Flock.com and get your frame photo in your family. That's precious. Go to Flock.com. Yeah, because you go on holiday with your shitty husband or boyfriend. Every photo is so awful of you. And you're like, okay, let's check the Flock. The Flock is going to be the new, what's the Getty images or something like that?

28:57Jason Stewart:Yeah, yeah. It's the new wire image, the new Getty image. I should have just used a flock photo since you don't know how to use a flock. I searched my name on flock and I only saw one photo of me throwing up behind a restaurant and everything else was pretty flattering. It's actually kind of nice. This is a good idea. There's a lot of through lines. I'm getting Wi-Fi. I'm getting cameras. I'm getting animals. Are you the animal that's being photographed now with flock? You know, a lot of stuff. All right, bro. Jason smoked weed this morning. You guys love baseball though, right? As a duo or Charlie, are you more of the head?

29:27I'm kind of like, we're sports guys. I'm heavy on the baseball. I'm eyeing Mr. Jeans' jersey back there. His Cubs jersey? That's a big deal. Yeah, that's a big one. He threw out the first pitch.

29:39Jason Stewart:Game worn. Game worn. Damn. That's so real. Sweat. You could like. Sweat riddled. What else do you have to do? Have you not thrown out a first pitch? Not much. No, and I suffer from a sports disease called the yips. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We talked about this. We talked about this when Jason was preparing. Yeah, I know. I talked to my wife the other day. She was like, you all got to do it. Now I'd be like, man, I don't know. I'd have to get Will to do it. You think you can throw a strike no problem, but on the world stage, you would choke. That's kind of the perfect scenario for it to flare up. Yeah.

30:14Jason Stewart:Perfect storm. The ideal scenario for the Yips. You're too close to the game of baseball, Will. Of course, he's going to do a great job, and he's not going to care that much either way about it, and that's what makes it hot. Yeah, exactly. I mean, and the worse it goes, the more eyes on it. So, like, why not? Let's just rip it. It's so true. Think of it as a grussler. That's a very Andrew Tate mindset. No, you know. A view is a view, bro. A view is a view. Yeah, Jason, did you, like, warm up in the cages underground, or what was the vibe? Yeah, my brother came out, and we got to sort of, like, go along the side, maybe by the dugout and, you know, kind of warm up, throw the pigskin around.

30:53Jason Stewart:Damn. Everyone watching you? everyone watching me but also nowadays when they do the first pitch it's like you and 11 other people it's like me a guy from the cast of wild and out season 17 you know just like it was so funny because they run it like a conveyor belt boom jason was taking it really seriously and then when i talked about afterwards he was like well yeah i was like one of 10 and i was like damn bro that's fucking because i think it's like i think it's like one of the yin yang twins and them jeans you know it wasn't great wait so they do 10 per game 10 is exaggerating but when i think they did maybe five four or five different people did the first pitch and it was you know it's like a kid who beat cancer an old r &b singer you've never heard of and then like maybe some local politicians a little greasing of the wheels you know maybe i'll sign this little something something Then also, there was one guy, his husband or wife or someone works at Anheuser-Busch.

31:52Jason Stewart:So a little, you know, let my wife throw out the first pitch. A little backdoor plug. See what we can do on that Molson deal split or whatever you got lined up. We'll get the contract. We'll knock it down 10 % for you. We'll see. I'll hit the button that makes the Coors Light colder. Yeah, not everyone gets that. Baseball's too boring, but if you like watching birds, it's kind of the ultimate it's kind of the same thing hand in hand yeah it's true but i gotta admit i watch i watch a lot of like condensed games uh it's a thing i've seen it it's a little i don't know i don't know what is it just highlights basically is that it's like it's like 13 minutes like like a whole game in 13 minutes but you can you can kind of like take in the regular season that way and not spend just like way too like because when the when the playoffs come, I spend way too much time.

32:41I spend like six hours a day watching baseball. It's crazy. Well, you picked the right career. You got a lot of downtime. Chris, you've seen it

32:48Jason Stewart:with tennis matches where they basically will just run the whole match back and they trim anything. So like anytime for the baseball game, anytime there's a foul out or a strike or a ball, whatever, they don't show it. They just show hits and boom, boom, boom, one after another. Look, I like that because I'm an efficiency junkie, but I feel like a real lover of the game. You're up there in the nosebleeds. You got your peanuts, your beer. You're keeping box score with a pencil. Your radio in your ears. Yeah, you got the radio. But you're saying that, okay, are you betting, though? No, I don't touch that.

33:25That's crazy work. I don't know.

33:28Jason Stewart:I think 7 billion people would disagree with you. No, I know, yeah. We got a homie that's kind of in deep. What male friend group doesn't? Yeah, we all got that one homies in a little too deep. A little too deep on women's hockey. Yeah, I was at the US Open and there was a family behind us who literally talked full volume the entire time. It was kind of fucking crazy, but they had paid$6 ,000 a seat. So what are you going to, I'm not going to say anything, you know? And the son was literally kind of narrating his bet throughout the match because he was and it was sort of like this annoying i would rather have a team of people with ring lights doing a fucking dance saying it was like this annoying it was like an annoying like 22 year old like kind of new york jewish guy with his like child bride and his entire family and they were just trump with him and he's like all right yeah now my mixed doubles parlay is about to fucking hit bro he was like i got 20 on this guy so i'm like bro if you're you can't talk this much about 20 let's keep it that's my whole like bro you gotta have if you're gonna talk this much about what you got going on like a stadium where everyone is rich these are these are also like it was a good it was a good match but it was like what they were ranked 20 and 24 you know what i mean it's not this isn't this isn't alcaraz fucking shelton tonight in prime time you know what i mean i was like dude you gotta you gotta you gotta have a little more going to be full throated about your about your betting let's say yellowtail full-throated yeah i'm surprised i'm proud of you charlie for staying out of that because you you guys always have struck me as very responsible and that's something i like about you you guys don't seem like you should be in a band maybe we shouldn't no yeah you guys are good boys only one of you got a dui and it wasn't that bad you know it was only once we only got kicked out of one concert like one time i only got beat up one time at stubs that's pretty good that's a pretty good that's pretty good i just what was your offense for that by the way what did you do i brought in my own alcohol and then and then it It was Dr.

35:30Dog. So it was like the craziest, most white bread concert you could possibly imagine. But I brought in my own alcohol, and the guy saw me and kind of like, you know, was rough on me. And I tried to escape a little bit. I kind of had a wild streak there for a minute. This is like 2012, what? 13. You're saying this is peak Dr. Dog, and you go to the show at Stubbs, and you try to slip out of the grips of security after he catches you? Oh, yeah. With a 40? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Everyone like juking security Everyone laughing Did you Okay but I imagine he caught you

36:04Jason Stewart:So you were at Stubbs and you're like I'm gonna either watch Dr. Dog And have a good time Maybe buy an IPA at the bar Or I'm going to prioritize This like fifth of pop-off in my pocket So you chose the dirty over the dog Is what it sounds like I chose the back doors The dirty route Do you remember what you were drinking that you snuck in? It was literally like a flask of Jim Beam or some garbage. It was crazy, but I did juke and jive for a little bit. I remember there was a scene where the crowd parted a little bit. And then when I got got, there was legitimately a circle around me. The crowd made a circle around me.

36:52Jason Stewart:Did you call the security guard fat at any time while he was juking him? I call them strong once they got me. I was like, whoa. I have a feeling I'm not going anywhere. There was some muscle under that big back. I was wrong. I had you all wrong. No, we have all felt that feeling when you're maybe a little drunk and you're a little physical, and then the person that you're tussling with is clearly more strong than you. It's very evident within seconds, and you're like, oh, no, no, no. This is bad. That day is still ahead of us. The strength of a man. I'll drink to that. Am I right, fellas? Very strong young man that day.

37:31Very strong young man and stuff. So did you get taken down to the ground, cop style? Or did they shuffle you out of there standing up like a man? They shuffled me out standing up, but I think I was on the ground at one point. And then I went to the drunk tank. They throw you a little boot party? Yeah, just a few kick in the ribs on the ground. A little kidney shot. We didn't see nothing. dude getting shots crazy getting kicked out of dr dog at stubs bro that is that is like the least i don't i just i can't imagine i feel i don't know i just can't imagine it that was when i was just like like i love just the thrill i was out you know i was all about the thrill like i you know i kind of want to stir the pot a little bit more back then yeah definitely like to tell a story but what's funny is the next day i was i was playing drums like a country band and the next day we had rehearsal and the guy was like did you see that guy get god at the dr dog show crazy all the homies were in the building too yeah that's yeah the homies were out i've never tried to sneak alcohol and even at my brokest i could kind of cobble together four dollars for a for a

38:42Jason Stewart:vodka cranberry and a plastic light yeah but think about the underage element that's what i you know pre-21 if you don't have a friend to buy something at the bar you gotta get that's true i That flask might be the only sip you have. I didn't really drink until I was like 20. I didn't have much time. I waited so long because of my straight edge affiliations that I was able to kind of, I had a year or whatever, but at that point I look old. That year is a juicy year though, Chris. A lot gets done in that year. It's a big year. Greatest year of my life. It's a big year. Greatest year of my life.

39:11You try doing cocaine for six months without drinking alcohol, and you'll agree. It's the best six months of your life. It's the best six months of your life. You do it raw. That really is a unique little angle you got there, Chris. I feel like no one does that. No alcohol, just cocaine. It was just because I'd like, yeah, I don't know. I was just like alcohol seems to be this. Nobody raw dogs coke like that. It just doesn't seem. Alcohol just didn't seem cool to me. I'm like, coke is. Did you smoke while you did the coke? Oh, yeah, I was smoking. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure. For sure, yeah. But you've calmed down.

39:42If that's the height of your misbehavior, I would say you did pretty well. We did fine. You've never been or either of you ever been arrested? No. I mean, that was probably it. I went to the drunk tank or whatever. That's probably the most arrest, the closest to arrest I've ever gotten. I guess where you guys grew up, drunk driving was legal, kind of. So it doesn't really, it's a different thing. Yes, it's a little bit. Yeah, you just hand it to the passenger if you have to, if you get stopped. I think it is in Tennessee or maybe Missouri. I don't know. I saw someone get picked up from the airport when I was in St.

40:19Louis, and it was the most just belligerent. Throw your bag in the truck bed, grab four beers out of the Yeti in the back. Everyone in the truck is drinking, and they're just at the airport, cops everywhere. That's cool. That's cool as hell. I love that. Yeah, I don't know why. That seems like it should be okay in certain places. I guess it is. I mean, I guess that's what you're saying. They're at the airport.

40:41Jason Stewart:It's like when you go to Hawaii and you see a family riding in the back of the pickup truck down the freeway and you're like, oh, yeah. Or like you're in places where the helmet law doesn't happen. And you're like, you know, are we in a third world country or is this just Chicago? You know, I don't know. Dude, Florida, I think you can still ride a bike with no helmet, which just seems like of all the laws. Yeah, for sure. In multiple states. That just feels like what are we fighting against, guys? Like also motorcycle guys that don't want to wear a helmet aren't the swaggy ones. it's like the fat guy on like the cruiser on the touring bike not the swag it's not like the guy on the triumph with the leather jacket that doesn't want to wear a helmet you know it's like the guy like what are you fighting against i that's i just don't understand that battle i really don't helmet oftentimes the helmet is part of the look it's part of the accessory that you gotta get the silhouette gotta get the inflated silhouette like that's the whole vibe oh you want i see so you're saying if it's a sideways a profile image you got the yeah you got the right bill so you're more into the cutting of shapes as it pertains to motorcycle riding has to cast an elegant shadow yeah do you have a motorcycle no i have a 110 cc scooter a honda what do you do with that besides emasculate yourself well i kind of i kind of miss scooter season this year so um because it has a hold on hold on hold on hold on is it september already shit.

42:03Scooter season isn't on my Google calendar. So if you could just let me know when it starts. Does it just start during the summer and end in the fall? Not a Jewish holiday. I think it ends when you're throwing leaves behind you on the nice brisk autumn day. That's kind of the peak, but it ends around there. But I would say when you can roll up the sleeves and get those dogs a little sunlight, that's peak scooter season. Okay, and you wear a helmet on the scooter, obviously, of a family. Yes, yes, yes, I do wear a helmet. I mean, it goes like 46, so it's kind of fast if you want it to be to me.

42:43Yeah, that ain't bad. Not nothing. But you're not going on the highways. I feel like LA is the only city where people try to have a cool scooter. Well, the only draw of the scooter.

42:54Jason Stewart:It is scooter season year-round. The draw of the scooter. That's our stick season. Yeah, that's our stick season. is you can park it anywhere. That's the only real, I think that's the LA appeal. You'll get killed in traffic, no question, but if you make it to your destination, you will be able to park it. You can definitely abuse the parking. Like that is, Chris, you're exactly right. Like go to a sporting event, like literally just pull it on the sidewalk and park it like at the entry gate. It's like the crazy, and like no one cares. It's a weird one. That does appeal. That appeals to me. That appeals.

43:24The danger doesn't appeal to me, but do you have a pickup? Do you, do either of you drive a pickup truck? Yes, I do as well. Will Strat. Why am I the vehicle guy right now? You're a car nut. But I feel like because you got gear and shit, you know, a truck makes sense. Yeah. I don't think it's crazy, but is it new or old? It's 2005. Oh, so just old, not vintage. I like that year. Yeah, yeah. I like that. Yeah, and it has 250 ,000 miles on it.

43:47Jason Stewart:Okay, so it's a Toyota then. Answered my question. It is. It is indeed. You got a juicy little taco? 05-er? I have a Tundra, but it's when they still looked like a big Tacoma. Yeah, Gen 1 Tundra before they started looking like Shane Gillis. A thumb. Yeah. Bowser style. Bowser looking ass. Butt truck looking like a Bowser. I did a new one. All right, so 2000. Yeah, there was like the T100 where it was kind of like the big body and the Tundra, you know, and that was when it was. what is the but what is the how many issues because you need it it just feels like a 2005 is old enough to have issues do you know how to fix shit yourself are you a real man not really but there's i mean you know the seasons are changing jason you gotta get that fucking wardrobe whipped into shape you can't show up underdressed overdressed too warm too cold and luckily with quince they got pieces you want to keep wearing the sweater that goes with everything the perfect pair of pants or the t-shirt that somehow you always reach for first Those are the pieces that make getting dressed easy, and that's what Quince does the absolute best.

44:57Jason Stewart:Yeah, that's right. And during these transitional times, as seasons change, me personally, I'm in the sauna. I'm out of the sauna. I want something that's breathable but also looks bougie and nice where I can go to a fancy dinner. I don't know. Does 100 % Mongolian cashmere do that? Oh, did he say that? Did he say that? It does, Jason. Yeah, yeah. So I'm breathing. If it gets a little hot, that's okay because it's nice and breathable. If it gets too hot, pull that sweater off and then tie the arms around your neck. And guess what? You just went from a seven to a nine and a half. Okay, Preppy. Find your next fall favorites at Quince.

I want it Chris's way or the highway, and I need to kind of work on that. Oh, you mean better at being less selfish? 47:42What did I do recently? No, I can't really do anything, but I can do electrical.

47:48Jason Stewart:I clean the bumper. I use a magic eraser. The best I can do is interior electrical, like change stereo. Dude, that's in line with your career path, but that's still impressive. You've got to just hit those wires just right, baby, just right. but I can't really get under there sure we're not changing out the tranny fluid but if you want to put in the blu-ray player that folds out you got that shit bluetooth carplay I'm your guy so you're not scared of a soldering iron I'm not scared to get shocked a little bit look that's real man shit I see a trend you're like I like a little shock every once in a while makes you feel alive the same way if you call a security guard a slur and he maybe he overpowers you that feels kind of good in a little naughty way as well you know what i mean just to get the engine revving stranger puts all his weight on you just get the engine revving well i i was it's funny this because i'm trying to um i had a i have some wi-fi issues with my home and jason verizon delivered an extender today i was like how hard can this be i did try for 45 minutes to get to work and i did fail so i'm gonna to have to get some help if you guys are available i don't know i know you're not in new york till november but i fly in tomorrow chris so yeah first thing that's right off of the right off the tarmac i'll come over and plug in your bluetooth i've i've tried i i thought i had it i felt pretty good about it because the instructions were very easy to read it seems like something that you should have been able to figure out i'm gonna give it another shot same thing with the microphone Last night at 10, from 10 to 11 p.m., I tested the mic.

49:28I was like, it still sounds so crazy. I wonder if the boys are going to approve of it. Sure enough, I've never been able to figure it out, and I guess today's not the day.

49:40Jason Stewart:That makes me feel good knowing that you had to lay out the clothes before the first day of school kind of situation. I was so excited. I lay my Shore SM7 out on the bed for tomorrow morning's big episode. I got my horizontal straps. I got my Nike socks. You're ready to go. Wrong podcast. We're not going to do a fit check. Sorry. This studio in your house is set up all the time. So that microphone works for vocal recording, is my guess. Fantastically. I mean, it's funny. You're in an active band, as they say. Yeah, the band is active. You're active. The band is active, and it sounds good when you throw it into a DAW, but for some reason, when it comes to Chris and Jason, it just turns to dust on me.

50:26Only room for one DAW on this Zoom, brother. Charlie, do you have a studio in your house too? Yeah, this is us. We're here. Okay. You guys both have - Wait, are you guys both in the same room? No, sir. No, we're down the road. Okay. Not far. So if you have to work, though, let's say we had to be in the same room, which studio are we choosing normally we just go we go to like ashville or la or something we don't you go to a you i'm saying but if you're demoing and shit would you go to one we trade off we go both that's night you got you got man you guys do it right i was hoping somebody'd be like i'm not going to his fucking dump i'm doing it he's coming to my well i mean like charlie has to risk all all the you know the threats to him like pet hair and okay um and like in like overcrowding like yeah i feel like i say this all the time but like charlie has like 11 things and they're all so damn nice and i have like 500 things that are all broken um and so our houses are very different but so in that way charlie's as nice to go to because it's like clean and there's never been

51:32Jason Stewart:dirt in there right sure whereas charlie needs to learn from going to your house that you know there's such a thing as too much cleanliness and minimalist. Charlie, is this you? Is this your wife? Is this a group effort? Is that just how you want to live? I feel like it's pretty true to me. My folks were that way. Same. If you're going to have something, have it be nice. Was it like a militaristic type of way? Or is it just we appreciate our shit here? No, I don't know. I mean, my mom was like a piano teacher. my dad worked at sam's club like we had no we had no money but like they would like go into debt to get me like to get me and my brother like a nice instrument because they knew that it would like beautiful it would last and it would be like inspiring you know yeah make a difference i mean that's that's good parenting i think there's i mean as a kid you might not even get the value of it but if they make it feel like it it's valuable then you know it is kind of yeah yeah so does that mean you had a piano in the house growing up i did i did i actually only recently got my own like when i moved here my pride and joy behind me there so when when you were younger were you like i want a fender stratocaster and she's like we have a piano at home babe and then you're like fuck no like literally i was like yo dad like dad i want to play drums and he was like okay here like for christmas i got like a dw snare drum and like that's all i had was just the snare drum okay nick cannon you're going out you're about to go off of that shit well we'll We'll give you a snare, and if you take to it, then next year, Sandy Claus will bring you a little floor time.

53:10Jason Stewart:That's a good idea. That's like giving Will a guitar with one string on it. Get the rudimentals down. If you can get a little white stripes thing going, I'll give you another string for Christmas. So you're nasty with a paradiddle. Don't put a snare in front of him. No longer, no longer. But I did. I mean, straight up, I proved that I appreciated the one drum I had, and then he got me this Yamaha. stage custom kit when i was 10 hell yeah i played that kit until i was like 25 it's crazy see yeah i mean that really is that that proves that they that shit was instilled in you that's impressive and you probably if you only have one snare drum and that big motor inside of you that just wants to tap tap taparoo you're probably doing you're hitting the snare on the sides you're going underneath you're messing you're tweaking the settings yeah you're getting your money's worth out of that snare aren't you yes sir or just put a shirt over it and don't and don't think about it there's also that move i've seen that it's a good place to put my coffee i've seen that get like a three thousand dollar drum kit and just cover it with blankets like that's a goose beans so you played you played piano first and then you got the drum yeah piano and drums yeah those were that that was kind of like in tandem piano first for sure so kind of like a roots thing that sounds yeah yeah yeah that's great that's good will did you play guitar first i did drums first too um what's wrong with you guys who plays i just feel like that's i feel like drums were always the hardest thing the drummer was the hardest thing to find in like a high school you can see the emotional issues that these guys suffer from the drums of course of course the drum finds that i'm just surprised because it's the loudest and most annoying for a parent it's so annoying but it's it's funny because i feel like guitar especially as a kid like is is extremely hard yeah extremely painful on the hand and the fingers learning curve is crazier for guitar compared to drums yeah and like and i realize now that we've met you know since living here and and just throughout life we've met all these incredible musicians who were who were actually practicing their instruments while we while me and charlie were playing sports or doing whatever so we had a lot of catching up to do in the first 10 years of our band still do on the skill level stuff.

55:30Jason Stewart:Just get into baseline. I mean, sometimes, though, that's the charm. I don't need, everybody doesn't need to be a shredder. As a known anti-guitar solo guy, you know, unless it's perfectly placed, I just, I find overplaying is a disease. And if you don't suffer from that, you're better off. Yeah. Yeah, just doing scales over the whole song, just scales up and down. But I feel like the only time you can commit that sort of time and effort to playing guitar is that age. I don't know how – the idea of sitting in your bedroom for four hours, five hours, alone with a guitar, getting good at it, that can only happen from like 10 to 15 almost, I feel like.

56:14It just doesn't make sense now.

56:15Jason Stewart:You need to have enough runway, and your parents have to be aware of your autism early enough to create enough space for you to become a guitar virtuel. so it's true i saw a t-shirt last night it was like don't call me autistic just call me really smart about baseball statistics yeah yeah you can you can put anything in there you can add anything i know what my brother's getting for christmas this year how was the how was uh how was the the the europe tour with wilco oh yeah fucking wilco dream dream come true man it was it was the coolest thing they were like really nice to us they like friendliest guys did you expect them to be a little did you expect them to not be as nice a little big dog in you not really that i expected them to be to be upright like to be adults you know like sometimes you open for people and there's like a lot going on like you barely kind of see them but like two hollis right mr jeff tweede himself like made it a point to wait for us side stage after the first gig like that's when you know that that you know that he's a grown-up and that he's appreciative and we're appreciative and it was good it it set the tone it's a good decent human being yeah it was really yeah i mean it yeah it's not you know bob dylan wants to meet you on the last day of the tour for 10 minutes yeah was he there was he there side stage to greet you to say that you guys sound a little cool okay was that your best show like by far If you want to open for Wilco, we're going to need to kind of...

57:50I thought we'd have a band here, guys.

57:55Jason Stewart:I was expecting more of a band tonight, I'll be honest. So happy to have you guys, but man, yeah, you could kind of tighten up on a few parts. We can go over it later, but I don't... This is kind of the bigger leagues now. We're going to want to start playing like it. That's really funny. It was really cool, though. I mean, and Mr. Nels Klein, who's obviously a legend in his own right when it comes to the jazz and the avant-garde guitar playing. He was extremely social. He was probably the most social one. We got to chat with him a lot. Just a really cool bunch who kind of wanted to chat. And my favorite part was all the gear.

58:32They brought like 60 guitars from the States to Europe. It was great. It was a blast. Did they have the full band rehearsal room before the show every night? Yes. They really do. They love music, man. They love.

58:46Jason Stewart:They just want to play. Yeah. It was really inspiring. They're a boutique stadium band. Yeah, it's really true. I just found the way to have so many songs that you kind of got to go over them. If you want to. You know what I mean? We can't just do this at Soundcheck. We have to have a whole room set up to kind of figure this stuff out or make sure we still got it. is is kind of insane tough log to whittle down being a band for 30 years is insane i know you know i recently not recently i guess maybe a year ago i i don't think i'd ever seen the documentary in full the i'm trying to break your heart man i forgot how good that shit was it's so good and i just feel like if you're it's so in a band it hits so hard it's crazy when i feel like that was like the end of the crazy music industry that doesn't really exist anymore where you know there still exist to some extent but like the high stakes label debates and the yeah and the big record deals falling through and the major dropping you and the like you know the drama of that no one's getting paid it no one's getting paid enough money for their record to get shelved they're like whatever bro no one no no it's all it's all right like no one's making enough money to like make a whole doc about how the record didn't get put out also that yeah it's like you know what we're good that was right on the cusp where they were selling a lot of yankee hotel foxtrot cds still and it was i feel like that was like right the last era where physical media was still paying a shitload of money on the low you know i just think that that's one of those things that even though wilco's it feels like such a part of our lives or maybe maybe jason's less so but you know what i mean they've just been around kind of forever i'm not as white but yeah i still appreciate a lot of the songs fair enough jason found out he is eight percent native american he doesn't shut up about it but the uh i'm a reservoir dog well you know i don't know what to say it It sounds crazy to think that Wilco is a band that a major label is like taking a risk on.

1:00:37You know what I mean? It's like, oh, we're going to. That's what feels crazy about it. It's like that. That was kind of what the debate was. It's like, I don't know if this is going to work, man. It's too, you know. Which it feels so compared to what's going on now.

1:00:48Jason Stewart:You know, Kid A, same kind of thing. Yeah, for sure. For sure. There's no hits. We got to scrap it. There's no hits. Has anybody ever told you there's no hits? Probably. I don't know. You're like, what time is it? Today? No, we've never had that type of I don't know I feel like we would welcome a scenario where the situation is such that there's an expectation Right, right, right Actually, why don't you put a little heat on us Maybe we'll shit something out It'd be nice to get a producer who can produce around here That's really funny That's really true You do the record, you do it with a producer So you guys just don't do it on your own, right?

1:01:31Yeah, we started out doing it on our own, but have since kind of... I mean, our friend Ben Littlejohn, who's played in all the music and been around since day one, he's kind of always been involved to some extent. But the first few records we did fully on our own.

1:01:46Jason Stewart:Lil Jon, great producer, so that makes sense. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, I mean... Different style, but yeah. As far as the hit thing goes, there's no hits. I feel like now that means the most garbage song in our discography that sounds like an underwater blanket would be the hit. There's no rules. The track that you're not happy about in any way will have the most Spotify plays. That's just how this game goes. The track that I want to go away forever will be the one that floats me for the rest of my life. The one that's going to buy your next jet ski. We got to close the show every night with that one, huh?

1:02:28Great. I guess that's what we're going to do.

1:02:30Jason Stewart:Well, maybe, I mean, I feel like you guys want to be domed by a nice, by a kind of a tough manager. I think Chris can get this. Chris can have you guys make a hit with, you know, 45 minutes. We'll go get lunch after. I mean, look, bro, I live. He'll tell you what you need to hear. I live by the adage, you know, don't bore us, get to the chorus. And I mean it. And I think more people can hear that these days. Or it's like, I don't know. I mean, with all this Stella lefty shit going on, I don't know if you've been following the lefty discourse, but it's basically like the one song sounded like Noah Cahan, and now I think we're six songs in, and they're like, this is that, this is that.

1:03:11It's literally every day there's a new song that she has sort of cribbed from.

1:03:16Jason Stewart:If she's giving interpolation credits out to all these people, then what's the difference between this and then when you hear the Blink-182 jazz cover when you're in Italy on vacation? Well, I think the issue is she gave that to Noah Kahan because someone at the label was like, we got to do that. I was like, you got to do that one. I think the other five have been discovered after the album was released and the splits were signed off on. So I think that's the issue. But I also think that that stuff gets, I don't know. With her, people hate her because she's rich. so they're really going for her.

1:03:50But I think that sort of, this sounds like that, you could kind of do that all day to everything that's listenable. Yeah. In my, any hits at least. It's really true. I mean, and it is, you know, it is crazy to have a song that sounds so much like something, but it is, just is what it is. You know, you gotta get seen. You gotta get out there, you know? Well, it's like when, this happens in fashion too, where you see similar things become trends. and it's like these people, it's something in the air. It's not like these people, there was no possible way that someone saw this and was like, I got to do this with production times and lead, there's no way to do it.

1:04:27Jason Stewart:Two people can arrive at the same idea at the same time. And people just hate to believe that that's true. Hate to believe that's true. And I think that's true in almost every art form and the delivery system is what depends on how it is received and how it is sort of responded to, I think. Yeah, I would agree. It's not trackable by data so their brain kind of shuts down yeah yeah we just give a writing credit and just call it a day yeah that's what i i mean yeah if it's also i feel like still a lefty she's just using music as a trojan horse to just become a famous person in the world and what is what do they do it doesn't matter you know maybe a little podcast here yeah you know a reality show here whatever yeah that's a good point i think there's a lot of people that are doing that now like which is crazy because music to me is the thing that requires the most skill to to you know what i mean like in theory it it requires more skill than podcasting or TikToking.

1:05:18No offense to Jason or me.

1:05:20Jason Stewart:You ever catch a trout with a barbless hook, Chris? All right, this is a harder thing. No, that's not true necessarily. I feel like you can hide behind so much in music, whereas you just have to talk and be insightful and funny. And with music, you can make a beat and hide behind that thing for years. Yeah. Well, this goes back to my reality show idea. You can't sing or rap on that beat, but you can sing the beat. Right. This goes back to my reality show idea where I get linked up with the world's biggest producers, and we see if we can give me a hit with my skill set of almost nothing. So it's like, if I go sit with five guys, who's going to be able to give me a hit with zero talent?

1:06:07Pause. I think that's a fantastic concept. I do too. Dua Lipa does it already, so I don't know why I can't. I mean, I can't give it a shot. I mean, it feels fair to me. No, I'm joking.

1:06:18Jason Stewart:She has more of a musical bone in her body than you do. No offense to you, but you would admit the same thing. So the idea is, you know, you just have to be good at prompting the producer. Like, I know what a hit is. I think I know what a hit is. Let's put it that way. Can Mark Ronson give me a hit in 48 hours? Like that, you know what I mean? Like, can I get a hit from in 48 hours? boom and turn something over on the dropbox folder within 48 hours i'm afraid of the rapping side of it if i'm keeping honest jason just because of what i'm capable of but i think we would have to branch out into a dj mustard at least the rapping side of music no i can i can hear you more in like an uptown funk vibe like i well i can hear you more like a great thing chris is gonna say more ride i just i've had this i've had this idea forever obviously selfishly but i'm also like this could work with anyone like anybody could take my job in this scenario and try to do it and i think it would be a revealing jake shane yeah and uh jake yeah it's like it's like when i it's like when i um no no i think that's i think that's very real and skrillex get together and he said all right stop all this bullshit and make me a fucking hit make me a hit dude make me go fred again like you say you say like smart like funny stuff all the time he'll just like he'll flip it you know make it just a sample yeah yeah of me talking and all of a sudden called chris again and yeah they're gonna close glastonbury next year the next thing i gotta wake up and i'm on fucking zane low talking about my process yeah it's just been a crazy 16 months it's just been crazy oh god zane makes you feel so smart yeah yeah he's he's gassing me up he's Have you guys been on Zane yet?

1:08:05No.

1:08:05Jason Stewart:This is my Zane. I'm starting to get jump scares. This is Zane for guys like us. I'm starting to get a jump scare when I see a Zane clip and it's a very small band that looks kind of unshowered and unfamous. And I'm like, is Zane branching out and getting cooler? Or is he running out of wicked cast members? Yeah, Elton John only puts out an album once every 10 years. I think it's... Jason, I think he might. I actually think he probably has pretty good taste. And if he can slip one by the powers that be. I know. I'm not questioning his taste. He knows about all this stuff. But I wonder if it's like, are we running out of celebs?

1:08:45Jason Stewart:Or do we want to become cool? I mean, we do. I think if we like something, we're just like, let's talk. I think it's probably the same way with him. He's just got a lot of people he's got to get it past. We'll even have you guys off. It's like that kind of vibe. Yeah, we'll even talk to Howdy. We don't care. Which is absolutely insane. Two-timers club. Two-timers club. A rare group. When does the NA tour start? The non-alcoholic North America tour start? I know. The guy that does our merch and all of our design, Bradley. I know Bradley. Fan of it. His work is great. He's awesome. He's the GOAT, but he lives across the world in Australia.

1:09:22And part of me wonders if NA doesn't have that connotation out there or something. But yeah, he went heavy. NA. Yeah, yeah. But it starts in October. Okay, soon. Yeah, real soon. So you got some time at home before, because you did Europe, and now you're chilling out, and then you're coming back. And who's, this is the headline tour, though, correct? The one, the North America? Correct. Okay, correct.

1:09:42Jason Stewart:Did Chris say Webster Hall for New York? Yeah, baby. Yes, sir. That's nice. I'll be there. Where are you guys at in LA? We're doing the Sid the Cat. Oh, yeah. Great things. Everyone's loving the cat. I need to find a reason to go there. I need to find a reason to go there. Have you not been? You didn't go for the wit thing? No, it's too far. Well, I'm not in LA like that, and it's too far. South Pass. Yeah, South Pass is... Yeah, he doesn't live in Los Angeles, but if he did, he also wouldn't go there. I'd rather go to Witt's house, you know what I mean? See what's going on over there. I live probably 11 minutes from Sid the Cat.

1:10:13Jason Stewart:I've never been. There haven't been that many shows there, to be fair. It's not like it's booked four nights a week. It's pretty fresh. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure it's nice. I'll be there. I'll be there. We'll do it. Sid, I know you're listening. We love you guys over there. Sid, I know you're listening. All right. Howdy. Thank you. Will, Charlie good to see you guys as always the album is in stores now streaming everywhere get your tickets for the NA tour coming soon and we'll see you guys later yeah thanks for having us y 'all pleasure always guys love to see you good to see you bros later
