In short

The hosts recap a chaotic Delta flight diversion caused by a suspected fire/smoke alarm, then shift to New York Fashion Week/TIFF-style celebrity culture and tech talk (foldable iPhone, Apple Watch “live rewind”), plus food, fashion, and sponsor reads.

Guests

No named guests appear as interviewees. “Chris & Jason” are the hosts. They mention Emily (a former show guest from “Nemesis”), and Andrew (a DP they meet in the airport pod), plus a woman they call “Janie/Joni” in the group.

Guest backgrounds (as described)

Emily has been on the show before; her parents are in the media. Andrew is a director of photography working in LA. Owen Thiel and Andrew Garfield are referenced as celebrity figures present at the airport.

Key claims

Smoke/fire likely came from something like a vape or luggage/battery issue; the plane was delayed for hours and they were “demoted” to a smaller aircraft. Albuquerque’s airport/traffic made a quick Tex-Mex detour feasible.

Notable examples

Delta LAX→JFK Fashion Week/TIFF trip; Doolin’s Tex-Mex during an 11-hour wait; an Uber driver’s open leftover Mexican food in the trunk; discussions of Owen Thiel’s approachability vs Andrew Garfield’s.

0:47how long gone new york fashion week is upon us the streets are alive downtown uptown midtown maybe not so much in Red Hook, but you get the point. Areas and parts of Ridgewood. Them jeans, I'm glad you made it. We can get into your oracle of travel yesterday, but it's one of the wildest things I've seen in all my years of chronicling travels with you. This could be the top worst.

1:12Jason Stewart:It's meddling. It's placing in the worst of all time. We're on the podium. We're on the podium. If you were following along with Owen Thiel's or Andrew Garfield's Instagram stories a couple of days ago, then you already know what I went through. So you're leaving an early Delta flight to get here in time for some stuff you have to do. It was like a 9.30, 9.15 kind of flight out. LAX to JFK, Fashion Week, US Open, a who's who. Let's not forget TIFF. you know you got to stop in new york before you hit toronto so what as well as tiff what happened like were you what were you doing when the news came across the uh the loudspeaker there in the in the in the plane okay yeah we we took off everything was all good and then you know edibles kicking in i'm watching the the rupaul campy film stop that train i believe it's called I saw that's so funny.

2:16I last time I saw Hari at Ryan McGinley's opening. She was going to see that and was talking about how the reviews were crazy and it's good. I assume you didn't make it through.

2:26Jason Stewart:We we almost made it through. It is a short film, but yeah, around we know we finished eating our food. We get the over the loudspeakers and it's hard to hear the first announcement, but there's a there's a there's some smoke detected. and somebody was talking about rumors. Rumors are flying, so we're going to go ahead. I think they said an unprecedented act of caution, we will lay her down in Albuquerque, New Mexico, just outside of Las Vegas. Okay, so you... And Taos. You hadn't made it very far, I guess. Had not made it very far. We were quarter, third of the way there. So we did make some time, but it wasn't, it was not a substantial distance of flying.

3:17Let me ask you a question. This is obviously, this was someone hitting the raspberry matcha vape in the bathroom, correct?

3:24Jason Stewart:I mean, there's no other, there's no other possibility. Everyone around me was asking, you know, asking me, you know, what I thought it was. And I was telling everybody that's best case scenario is the, the, the pineapple hojicha matcha vape. is somebody, you know, a PR person or, you know, a nervous person from the L 'Oreal makeup team. Yeah. Goes, takes a couple pulls, smoke alarm goes off. Typically, I don't know. You don't really hear about it, them having to down a plane for that. But sometimes it does happen. I have seen it. But we land in Albuquerque. Everyone's kind of pissed. And they're like, okay, someone is vaping.

4:08Jason Stewart:We're, you know, two cops are going to come and we're going to get the perp walk of whoever was vaping up in there. But no perp walk, no police. Two firemen come on. Uh-oh. Not the fake police. Two more firemen come on. So you're saying the fake hot police with mustaches and fucking tattoos and judge t-shirts came on to save the day? A little bit of a different silhouette for the Albuquerque FD. Are you saying that we got some enchilada big back enjoyers over there? A couple of fellas where, you know, when you're walking down the aisle on the airplane and you turn sideways, but the profile doesn't change.

4:47Jason Stewart:You don't gain or lose any inches. Yeah, bro, I do. It's like spinning an apple. Not much of a difference is made. And so, you know, to be frank, there was just plain obese firemen having a hard time waddling down the aisle of an airplane, let alone, you know, up a palm tree to catch Garfield. Good grief. All right. So you're saying this guy's more at the buffet than saving the tabby in the tree. So they weren't looking. He's Captain Save Me a Place. There he goes. Got him. Captain Save a Place. eventually I count them there are eight firemen and some of them have tools with them you know like readers and devices and things like that and the problem is we find out I'm getting the scuttlebutt I'm catching some of the tea from different flight attendants talking to the pilot get up wander around the cockpit see what you can pull down and so a smoke alarm in the back of the plane went off and then people were detecting an odor that was giving more fire than than blueberry so you're saying more fire is usually that's my that's my instagram comment to one of my streetwear homies when they post a selfie but you're saying this is actual fire and brimstone this is rubbing two sticks together type fire Just like the electrolyte powder of Emma Klein making water more wet, this was fire that was caused by fire.

6:29Jason Stewart:Smoke was happening from legit fire. Okay. Fire 1.0. So that was going off, and then I overheard a pilot telling a ground crew person, like whatever, the fire guy, the fire organizer, the director of flames. and he was like yeah i was i got a i got a hit on the on the smoke detector in the back and i got one in the cockpit oh hell no and i know i wasn't putting any hog legs down so then he said when when both of them pinged that's when he was like we got to lay her down just you know air on the side of caution okay so we think there was no nefarious action we think this is a classic this plane is from 1980 and and something something could have sparked it was no Nat Sherman's with the door closed.

7:17Jason Stewart:Yeah, we don't know. You know, is somebody's lithium-ion away battery that's deep in the cargo hull, has that exploded? Oh, God. It could be anything. Now, Bean's down there getting flambéed. Oh, my God. Okay. You know what I mean? So you get off the plane. So, yeah. So we get off the plane, and they're like, look, the crew, the guys are going to come on, and they're going to find where this the you know the cause of all this was happening and you know give it give it an hour we'll kind of figure it out and it just kept going on and on they bring out the sandwiches you know we start getting alerts and so this is we land in albuquerque let's say 12 31 p.m uh mountain time and then we eventually hear that 6 p.m is when we're going to take off so we were we're delayed you know four or five hours classic maybe an hour later it gets pushed to 11 30 p.m and they have to um they have to bring in a plane from detroit then to salt lake city to empty it and then the empty plane will fly to albuquerque to to rescue all of us stranded people because the problem is they don't think anything is wrong with the plane but they can't take off unless they find the cause of it and they just never they just straight up hours and hours and they never found it yeah and the plane we were on was so big to yeah that it's not a typical albuquerque one so they didn't have the equipment to take all of the checked luggage off of the plane to put it on the next one um and they also didn't if if the fire was caused in the luggage area they didn't have the equipment to to move all that luggage out of the way so they could get in there and and find the source of the issue so it's like all these things going on so they have to then taxi our old plane that still could you know be on fire to the amazon warehouse distribution facility because amazon has the equipment to to remove the cargo up the plate so it's very much like how people are saying like we we don't have the technology to do that anymore kind of thing huh you know privatized shipping has sort of well i hope all those people on board that canceled their amazon accounts and protests kind of remember who was there for them when they needed it most that's all i'm saying maybe bezos ain't so bad Maybe Bezos ain't so bad.

9:54Jeff said, oh, you need to borrow a hammer? Oh, interesting. Okay. That's actually a crazy story. I did not, I'd never even considered most of those factors. It's really interesting.

10:03Jason Stewart:They're like, we don't have the equipment to remove cargo out of a plane this big at this airport. So until we figure out what the deal is, you are not, you know, you, whatever, wherever you end up going, your, your luggage is probably not going to come with you. So everyone was like bummed about that until Bezos saved the day. Anyway, it did eventually take off. We boarded the plane around 11.30 p.m. midnight. And then they loaded because the plane was smaller. A lot of people got cut. We got demoted in class. There was a lot like we were sitting in Comfort Plus and there was a lot of Delta One douchebags who were throwing a shit fit that they got stuck back there with the pores.

10:47Jason Stewart:And it was terrible back there, I will say. Yeah, but dude, if I'm trying to get home like that, I'm like, dude, I don't give a fuck about that. What are my options? Stay in the Holiday Inn in Albuquerque or go to New York City? I'm going to thug it out in 38F. Yeah, so in the meantime, we did have 11 hours to kill. So we formed a group, Emily, who had been on the show before from Nemesis. Oh, yeah. She was there. I met her dad and he was sick. She said that you have met the dad and maybe the mom as well. I don't know. Her parents are in the media game. But yeah, formed a group with her. A pod?

11:31Jason Stewart:You formed a pod? There was a pod. There was also a guy named Andrew who was just a nice guy who came over and hung out with us. And we just chilled. He's a DP. He was in LA working a job. I have to say, this is kind of a... Honestly, this is sort of getting beautiful. I feel like this is like, all right, we're going to go fuck it. We're going to go have some Tex-Mex and see what Albuquerque has to offer because we got 11 hours to kill. We also had kind of a fifth straggler who was a Roseanne type of woman, I think named Janie or Joni. Couldn't tell if she was like a rich CEO or not, but she was something and she had like a kind of a swaggy like old double RL backpack on and had a cowboy hat on with some Tevas and she was kind of bossy but she was asking the flight attendants why aren't we taking off yet and they're like I don't know.

12:31Jason Stewart:Bitch I'm missing my nail appointment my hydro flask is empty don't ask me any more fucking questions but yeah our pod went over we went to Doolin's I think it's called D-U-Duelin's yeah Tex-Mex Spa Classic it was great I've been to Albuquerque kind of a lot Durin's sorry I should say so I feel like not for very long periods of time but I feel like at least if you're going to be stuck in a place at least it's a place that's easy to you're not going to get stuck in traffic going to get a burrito I guess is what I'm saying yeah we left the charming airport the sunport we left the charming little tiny sunport you know and then hop in an Uber and it is a 11 minute drive to the restaurant and an eight minute drive back to the airport.

13:18Yeah, I mean, that's kind of a dream.

13:20Jason Stewart:With a stunning sunset. The only downside is the Uber game in ABQ is it's a little rough around the edges. Since we had our four top with all of our bags, so four Remy's, four Toadies, all that shit. Andrew had some Pelicans. It was the whole thing. But we, you know, so we get the Uber Black XL, whatever, and it ain't the Yukon. It ain't the Grand Wagoneer. It's like a Plymouth. It's a Chevy minivan, 2003. We open it up. Big Mama was in the driver's seat, and she would not get out. I mean, obviously, we don't expect her to load the luggage, but we open up the trunk, and there's an open styrofoam container of Mexican food sitting on the floor.

14:07Jason Stewart:and we're like, yo, do you want? Bruh. There's food back here. There's open food back here in the boot of this minicamp. She said in Albuquerque, open carry is legal. You know what I mean? So I'm keeping the beans and rice. She said, I know how many beans are on that plate. Don't play with me. Oh, shit. So we're like, ma 'am, I think your lunch may have been in the backseat and the friction of the road popped the styrofoam open. So we're just kind of looking at loose Mexican leftovers here in the backseat. What do you want to do? And she iced us out, didn't say anything, and didn't get up out of her chair.

14:51Jason Stewart:So we had to literally grab the Mexican food and fold it closed and put it in the trash. What? She was like, I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know. She was denying the whole time. Well, I mean, she has... I mean, look, it could have been a passengers. It could have been a previous passengers. That was her claim. That was her claim. But you're saying by the look of her, you don't believe it. How Long Gone is brought to you by Squarespace. You know what time it is, Jason. It's time to surf the World Wide Web. And when I see websites that work, that look good, that allow me to make transactions, often those websites are built on the squarespace platform oh yeah that's right chris let's say you know you got a little pop-up i started making picking duck out of my trailer park in torrance california and i want to build that business i want to you know we're moving into the next level it's not so much just like oh yeah here it's cash and give me that and blah blah blah and put it under you know no no we have payment systems we have payroll systems we have email services we're not just doing some things the olden days we can now have business level tools that you know the competition is using just by you inside of your little trailer that's a blessing because we all got to be able to make money and the best way to make money is using a website that you built on squarespace go to squarespace.com slash how long for a free trial and when you're ready to launch use offer code how long to save 10 off your first purchase of a website or a domain Squarespace.

16:21Jason, we're often working out. We're spending time outdoors. We're traveling. But also, we just want to feel our damn best. And what I'm told helps is hydration. I need my energy, my focus, my workouts. I need it on tan. I need to be primed. And that's where instant hydration comes in. I pour this shit in my water. I shake it up. I'm ready to fucking rock.

16:43Jason Stewart:Yeah, Chris, we got that nice French gray sea salt in there. Imported from France, of course. Zero sugar. 500 milligrams of sodium. We got potassium, magnesium, aquamin, an ocean-sourced mineral complex with calcium trace minerals. Minimals, but the most important thing, if it doesn't taste good, we're not going to pour it into our water bottles and drink it after Pilates. I'm literally drinking it right now. I believe it's a little kind of a strawberry lemonade kind of thing, and I do like the flavor. So there's a zillion of these little beautiful vitamin, hydration, electrolyte packets out there, in the world and this is a great one that i use all the time get your sodium get potassium get magnesium get your aquaman potassium for a better way to say hydrate go to instanthydration.com slash how long and use my promo code how long for over 40 off your first subscription order it's instant hydration's best offer available that's instanthydration.com slash how long promo code how long jason i i recently went for a full panel you know with the doc went through all this shit and you know i i felt like i know he was doing his best to explain it to me but i left feeling and this is this is not a new feeling for me i left feeling dumber yeah about my own my own body and i need a fix for that and i feel like you might have it yeah i feel like your insights were not insightful enough we need to maintain our testosterone our estrogen levels our thyroids our cortisol and superpower handles over 150 of those biomarkers not just the 10 to 15 that you'll get from that dumb old doc blood draws are available at over 2 000 locations or just at home take control of your health with superpower for a limited time our listeners get 20 off their superpower membership head to superpower.com and use code how long for 20 off and after you sign up they'll ask you how you heard about superpower tell them how long gone sent you to support the show could you imagine getting in an uber a minivan uber you and your wife on the way home from dinner you will go and you open up the trunk swings all the way open and you put a single styrofoam to-go container in the boot next to an old tire it's a disgusting space the boot part does I'm no lawyer but the boot part is pretty serious evidence it's damning evidence this fat bitch it was definitely her food and she was embarrassed and she was denied, denied, denied.

19:15Jason Stewart:But, you know, it was rough stuff. But once we got to JFK, you know, the all-black bourbon. So what time? You landed this morning. We landed this morning about 7 a.m., hit the baggage claim, hoofed it all the way down. Oh, because you checked a bag. You checked a bag. Actually, by the time the whole thing went down, the bag was nice and easy. And then being at JFK that early in the morning, at arrivals. Nobody's there. It was almost like a judgment day type of, like we were in Albuquerque so long. We're walking out blurry-eyed and shit and then Carolyn spotted, it was like a pink Bottega suitcase being carried by a security handler and then turned the corner and a blonde Cardi B appeared around.

20:08Jason Stewart:Barty was at BFK? you know right where the l-shaped turn happens like there's a hudson news in the corner yeah yeah of course of course it was it was as that corner was turning so it was almost i call that my i call that my autobahn uh depending on sort of the traffic can be crazy but you really have to be able to navigate on four wheels you know having having walked that autobahn route so many times with you and with carolyn i would like to see both of you guys race this is a great idea for our competition show you guys both move i mean it's like supermarket suite but it's me and carolyn just seeing how fast we can get through airport terminals i don't know if the viewership is there but how fast you can get to t32 while stopping for two largest avions exactly and no running no running because that that's cheating uncouth that would be uncouth wow dude i'm so look i'm so glad you guys made it and i have to say that your attitude throughout the process at least via text message uh was was mature and not um not crazy because i i would have probably gone into a deep dark place as a efficiency hoe um i think i i think i could have gone into a dark dark place the fact you know how we would talk about how like people at weddings nowadays they're so worried about the way they look in front of others in a large group that they sort of reserved themselves more so than normally i think that was happening because it was it was a flight from la to jfk for fashion week tiff us open all stuff so it's everyone knows everyone you know it's all fucking influencers and shit and then half hasidic jewish orthodox people welcome to new york yeah i mean that sounds so everyone was sort of like like nobody was losing it because everyone was looking at everyone like is it like Andrew Garfield can't throw a shit fit is Garfield solo Garfield solo I mean that's cool did anybody did people leave him alone or people approach him everybody left him alone but eventually even even Garfield had to pod up I think Owen had the most disciples you know what I mean his fan base was large isn't that amazing that Andrew Garfield an a-list actor who has been part of the fabric of hollywood for 20 years is absolutely mogged by owen teal who was on the second season of a hit tv show adults on fx i think i mean it really boils down to approachability yeah well i guess that an audience no i ain't approaching yeah andrew garfield is completely unapproachable garfield he's in he's sitting alone in the corner with his duffel his watch his hat is down low he's got headphones on he is not you know he's not giving meet and greet um but there was a there was a little hudson news snack bar right by us and the kid working it was like this little like brace face you know 17 year old latinx twink so oh you know losing his mind when when this happened he's getting he was getting he's collecting digital autographs from from all the celebrities he like had a thing on his phone and he would have digital autograph autograph on the finger and then like screenshot it wow that's actually really interesting i i've never heard of or thought about that technology moves fast tj i liked it or or does it move so it doesn't move so fast it's actually moving in reverse you know i watched i watched a couple episodes of season one of adults recently actually yeah to try to run it back season two is about it really is it really is like friends for gen z kind of but like James.

23:48In the first episode, or maybe the second episode, there's like a marathon. There's a subplot where Owen has, actually, it's the main plot, not to go Hollywood mode, not to go Weinstein mode, but he -

24:00Jason Stewart:A story arc. He has basically told his coworkers for no reason that he runs marathons, and he's lying. Just awkwardly blurted it out. That's so mean. And so he has to fake run the marathon because his coworkers are there with pictures of his face cheering him on. It's pretty, like, as far as marathon inclusion in a TV show goes, it was a pretty clever way to do it. It was funny. Yeah, I guess I'm going to have to run it back as well, you know, because I don't remember a single thing that happened. Just like an episode of Friends, you know, it just kind of washes over you. That's the whole point.

24:34I think that's why it works. Damn, okay, so you made it. You're in the Big Apple.

24:38Jason Stewart:Yeah, I made it. I'm in. I'm here at the beautiful Nine Orchard, and who isn't staying here? Dude, I couldn't leave. I had so many stopping chats outside of that. It's nonstop out there. Carolyn said, on our floor around the corner, I saw rolling racks being lined up down the hallway. Things are happening. It's hot. It's juicy. It's hot and it's juicy. I had a classic Chris five-stop night last night, which was, even for me... You had a bang, bang, bang, bang, bang? I recruited Kobe and Maddie to come with me just because I needed some younger energy to keep me going. And I think by the fifth stop, which was the target design activation at the new museum, they were like, all right, where's the liquor?

25:24Like I'm maxed out. I can't keep up with this fucking old guy and all of his bullshit.

25:28Jason Stewart:So they were not able to sustain simply on the fumes of you loving art and appreciating beauty. I mean, something stronger. I think at certain stops in the night, I mean, we started at a gallery, actually two galleries, then made it then the Celine store for the Reebok thing and then there was something else Willie Chavarria Ugg and then New Museum at Rays yeah at Rays yeah we went oh yeah I forgot you're a little Ugg familiar now I'm Ugg familiar I went to go tap in with my bosses but then I did that's how much we love Ugg that we will do Willie at Rays it was so sick they were like Chris we would love to give you a pair of shoes to ready the event and I was like guys there is no fucking way I can pull these off.

26:10I literally responded to the DLX email being like, sounds cool. What brand? I was like, you guys know me, first of all. Like, I know you personally. Like, you worked on the Hanover launch. We know each other. Don't kid yourself. I cannot pull off Willie Uggs. I love Delta 360, but, you know. I can't get everything I want.

26:26Jason Stewart:You know, I can't get everything I want. Something ain't gonna happen. But, yeah, it was a busy, it was a busy night, but the, the Celine, they had hot dogs. I do, sorry for interrupting. I would like to see you in this motorcycle Uggs. I think there's three or four styles, and one of them is pretty wearable. Although, is there a wearable one? It feels like it's a little in, like, Chrome Hearts Birkenstock nachos. Yeah, yeah, kind of, yeah. It's the clog. It's the Birkenstock. It's the Ugg clog that I would wear, but I can't really walk in a clog. Like, you can't. You know what I mean? It's a shuffle shoe.

27:00It's more of a gallop. Yeah, it's not a walk shoe necessarily. But, yeah, it was a big. Celine had hot dogs.

27:07Jason Stewart:You just do that when you're rotating on the line. Oh, okay. Were they classic New York hot dogs or was it a little something? It was, but they had spelled Celine and mustard on the hot dog, which I, that was a nice touch, I will say. That was a nice touch. Did they have any meatless options? I didn't see a lot of people eating, if that's a shock to you. You wouldn't, if there was a veggie one there, would you have eaten a hot dog in public at a Celine party? No, I don't, I've never, this is no cap and it's crazy. I've never had a vegetarian or vegan hot dog in my entire life. Wow. Because I would always have the burger option.

27:48Because there's never just dogs.

27:50Jason Stewart:Okay. So it was always, there's always here's gold, here's silver. And we're not going to pick silver when the gold's sitting there the whole time. You're a patty daddy. No shade to my dog lovers, my foot fetishists. But I'm just not. I just can't. I don't know. I think in the early meatless, meat-free options, I think there was some good movement in the wiener space. I know there's a popular vegetarian bratwurst, but I've never had anything like that. I just would prefer a classic burger with cheese. When we have a black bean patty there with a little melted cheddar. What are we talking about?

28:29What are we fucking doing here? What are we talking about? But the shoes, they were releasing those Reeboks.

28:35Jason Stewart:Yeah, actually, I was curious what you thought about those shoes because I feel like I could see it being hot. They have the ones that are kind of tonal, like Skims bra colors. I don't know. I could take it or leave it. I like the one that looks like it's kind of like a faded mildewy off-white yellow. Let me say this. That one's nice. They have a lot of flavors, and I was out on them fully, and then seeing them in person, they were much more wearable than I thought they were. This is why IRL experiences are so important. People were copping, though. Like, they were selling the shoes at the event, which is pretty rare.

29:11But I was getting into a discussion with... Oh, it's giving semi-private. I was arguing with Sarah Moonves and this guy, Christopher Niquette, about the price. And I was like, I bet they're$800. And we asked someone from Celine,$750. I still got it, TJ. I still got it. Because$500, too cheap. $1 ,200, too expensive. $750. just right. Too expensive for most people, but not crazy.

29:38Jason Stewart:500 and under and too many poor people will have access to it for Celine to be happy with that. And Woody Harrelson was there at a cowboy hat, which was interesting. Was he wearing those shoes and a cowboy hat on Woody? I don't think he was in the shoes. I don't think he was in the shoes. I'm sure he wasn't in the shoes, but could you imagine? But I feel like he's hearkening back to a white man can't jump era of his life when he sees those shoes coming back, that must be a big hit because we were kids when those were popping, like the Jazzercise Reebok shit, but he was like, he was prime fucking during that time, so, you know, he's probably, you know, the Reebok, no, leave the Reebok song, girl, you know?

30:20Leave him on, leave the box on, leave the box on. Slow down now, slow down. Louise Chen was DJing the Target thing, so we got to catch up with the goat. while I was looking at all the history of Target design. What was the...

30:36Jason Stewart:The party was to celebrate just Target being awesome? I mean, honestly, I feel like a lot of people don't know this, but Target has done a crazy amount of designer collaborations over the years, like good shit, kind of. Cosimo, Mizrahi. There's a Missoni one. There's a lot of design stuff that is... I don't know. It was insane, though, because it was like... You could take a picture with the fucking dog, but I didn't see him. You know the Target dog? There's three Target dogs. Talking about Spot? Spot is there. And then at the end, this is the craziest shit. We're walking out. I see a plate. I see a plate.

31:13They got black and white cookies. White and red for Target. You know I had to put one of those in my bag, bro. You know I had to get that, as Maddie said, let me get that red 40. Target said red lives matter. alright then yeah they did they said Red Lives Matter but I just yeah it was a long

31:34Jason Stewart:damn that's a good YG album good YG mixtape moving you know if it ever happens again Red Lives Matter well let's hope not I mean let's hope not just for our ears sake but yeah we ended we had dinner at at Lovely Day and it was just a long it was a long night Jerry Sue's in town his book's coming out it's a real smash success if you haven't read the New Yorker story it's really good Sue Sue. Nobody does it like Sue. Nobody does it like Sue. Real talk. One of my faves. He's the guy. He's one of the only photographers where I, when I look at his, his candid snaps, roadside snaps, I get truly jealous.

32:10It's unbelievable.

32:10Jason Stewart:I'm playing in a different game. It's really interesting because I mean, obviously famous fashion photographers, like people love them. You know what I mean? Of course, like that's, that's a known thing, but I think that like Jerry and Daniel Arnold have, I mean, Jerry is different because he's been a professional skateboarder since we were children and he's like a legend so it's a little different but daniel and jerry both for their photo photos have like psycho fans in a way that like i've i've never seen that with whatever like jürgen teller or call your shore or alistair mckin like i don't it's just not the same it's so interesting not on not unlike our our andrew garfield owen teal yeah comparison no it's true um okay did you um well i want to talk to you about the foldable iphone i think it looked gay as hell what do you think bro the phone they're too big bro it's just everything's everything's too big like i don't i like the idea that you see the picture going viral of the i think it's ai but it's like a guy sitting on the train and it's like facing out and it's got the joan didion book i mean i think i saw somebody being like oh this is on the beat this is sick i get to watch uh i get to watch two two kinds of porn at the same time sure left side reels right side tick tock you know but i just don't i don't know if the world needs it but i also think that like people will just buy anything technology wise i feel like people are always want something new so badly that like we'll try it and it's i mean i think it's two grand yeah it's very expensive i just i mean samsung has had one on the market for the last seven years yeah they said i know their social media fucking account manager is having a heyday them in duolingo going back and forth getting it i i don't i mean i hit first i don't think there's any world because i told you i had that samsung i had the tom brown samsung foldable phone and i i will say pause hey it was a gift i will say that the the feeling of closing it is extremely satisfying and it it really is nice but any anything else about it just seems a little clunky and it's like thick i mean i'll try that like i'll go touch it yeah i feel i wonder like how much of people's like asmr physical touch stim kind of always got to be playing with something if that's going to move the needle on uh on foldy sales because i don't really i mean i've always liked the idea of um when when they were like you can rotate the phone sideways and you can type on a larger keyboard when that feature was announced.

34:41Jason Stewart:I was really excited because I have a hard time typing on the keyboard. It's too small for me. And I hate typing sideways and you just don't do it. But now this foldable one, I wonder if this is going to change how we type. You know what I mean? I just think that if I'm going to do anything technology related that is that kind of glaringly different than what I'm doing day to day, it would be to buy the BlackBerry keyboard attachment for an iPhone. like if i was really going to do something that changes my daily computing like that's probably what i would do if you wanted a full switch up if you wanted to like i'm just like dude who know who needs a fucking i don't know like who needs that much surface area on their cell phone besides uber drivers and children like what 240 mid 40 year old men that have computers like what what would we actually need that for i i like my iphone air i love it i'm good okay well what about you You're on the plane and you've got one side with Twitter and then the other side, I don't know, Slack, iMessage.

35:44I think in theory that's all great.

35:47Jason Stewart:I think interesting things will come of it. Like when the iPhone first came out, everyone started making rogue apps. Yeah, true, true, true. You know, the drinking a beer game and, you know. Oh, I forgot about that classic. How could I forget? That was a good one. That's a good one. So I think we're going to get some cool foldable technology. I only know the Andrew, the guy that we were in the pod with at the airport yesterday. He's being a DP. He was really excited about the new iPhone. The regular one has aperture adjustment on it for the first time. That's cool. And he said that like typically for, and I was going to ask you about it as a hashtag 35 or hashtag 35 and up grown and sexy.

36:28Jason Stewart:does uh when when you're on set and shooting film he said that usually the photographer will use a digital camera to sort of check the the aperture and light and all that stuff yeah yeah yeah and uh and then you know go from there and he said that because like this new phone you'll it's it's good enough now the lens is good enough and the aperture is good enough to where you can use that as a replacement for bringing a DSLR to set or whatever. That's pretty life-changing. I mean, what people used to do, you'd have to shoot the Polaroid back to see it and everybody approves it. But yeah, I mean, I think that does save time and money.

37:07That's actually a good use. It's like when all those crazy apps came out about sun times and shit. You know what I mean? That's actually really helpful. That makes sense. I mean, I don't think that would get anyone to buy that phone, but I think it's a nice thing to have.

37:22Jason Stewart:Well, would it get you to buy the phone as somebody who is a professional film photographer? No, I would, no. I would just, I mean, if it's, I mean, it's just - It's too tech, isn't it? It's too techie. I mean - You'd have somebody else do it. I would have, yeah. I mean, I just think there are people that know how to do that and I'm not necessarily one of them. I mean, the basic stuff I can do, but I don't think having, like changing my day-to-day phone for that use feels kind of extreme. Yeah, especially now that you're an air boy. I don't know if the world, I think it's going to take five years for people to really want a foldable phone.

37:54I think is really what it comes out to.

37:56Jason Stewart:Or to decide if we actually don't want a foldable phone at all and have no need for it. Also true. Did you see the live rewind feature on the Apple Watch? Yeah. I don't even really understand like what. It allows users to view what was said around them in the previous 15 seconds. Bro. So if you're in the cipher and somebody says something crazy and they go, I didn't say that. I said this. And then you can, you know, in theory, what did this head ass just say? We got to stop. This feels like something they're going to use on Joe Budden to argue with each other. That doesn't sound like any real.

38:33Yeah, very much so. There's no use of that that makes sense. Like there's no actual application of that that I'm like, oh, that's smart.

38:42Jason Stewart:The example that they use visually is somebody's at lunch and the waiter is reading the specials to them and then the phone transcribes it. So he's like, all right, the Branzino with heirloom tomatoes and the fava bean puree. Dude, we got it. We got to stop, bro. Just listen to the fucking guy, man. Just listen to the guy. Listen to this track, bitch. Just put your phone down and listen to the... If you're old or high or you have dementia or something. Bro, if you got dementia, you don't need to. If you got dementia, you ain't getting the specials. Let's be honest. Yeah, you don't need to get the table side.

39:21Yeah, you're good, bro. You don't need the special.

39:22Jason Stewart:If you have dementia, your daughter is not going to let you get the tomahawk for two. But let me say this. This doesn't apply to me, but it does apply to you. It feels like this is going to be used a lot on your citizen app to catch people who don't pick up their dog shit. It's something to think about. I mean, everyone is saying this is just another step in normalizing the surveillance state, etc., etc. It's just crazy because this to me feels like 100 % crazier than Metaglasses, kind of. But like, I guess it's obviously it's all in the same general zone. But like, if we're getting if we got the flocks at a certain point, it's like my data.

40:00I have to just give up. Like, it's just sort of like, take it, bro. I don't care.

40:04Jason Stewart:Yeah. But then the problem is, you know, every day, you know, and then at a certain point he says, yeah, just take my Wells Fargo password. Yeah. Fuck it. You know, whatever. The shit where Zuck took Muse's Instagram handle is really fucking sick. Like, I don't think Zuck realizes what a burn that is because Muse is like a reviled band by everyone I know, at least. They have a big enough fan base in Europe. Huge. No, they're huge. They just played in L.A. They played at the Hollywood Bowl, I think. It's co-worker music though. It's, I mean, I feel like it's, I don't even know what kind of music it is.

40:40If I'm being honest with you, I wouldn't even know how to describe it. There's a certain level of that like popular, like sort of British rock music that I don't, like I don't know how to explain Biffy Clyro to you. Like I don't know what that, Muse is the same thing. Like I don't know what that sounds like.

40:55Jason Stewart:You can hold that Biffy. Well, I used to listen to a little bit of Muse when they first dropped and they were sort of an electronic tinged sort of a little bit theatrical hard hard rock band with with gay vocals but they had the guitar player had a chaos pad okay i'm back custom custom uh custom molded into into the body so he could you know freak the solos freak with wow of course wow built in so that was a cool that was a cool moment and you know so it was it would be like rocking kind of music like up up uplifting choruses and sing-songy bits but then the the drum beat was a little you know somebody told me killers kind of yeah i i a little bit of that squelch going on i think i knew some of this but i don't i just dude i i don't know man it's like it's just of all the bands for that to happen to it's really funny to happen to muse i agree that's all i agree and then And Zuck is going, I don't even know what Muse is.

41:58Jason Stewart:It's going to be stupid. I mean, he just has to spell it different because the Muse fans protest so much. It's M-E-W-S now. And the whole thing kind of blew up in my face. Oh, man, it's too funny. All right, well, how are you feeling physically? Really bad, really bad. The seasons are changing, Jason. You got to get that fucking wardrobe whipped into shape. You can't show up underdressed, overdressed, too warm, too cold. And luckily with Quince, they got pieces you want to keep wearing. The sweater that goes with everything, the perfect pair of pants, or the T-shirt that somehow you always reach for first.

42:39Those are the pieces that make getting dressed easy, and that's what Quince does the absolute best.

42:43Jason Stewart:Yeah, that's right. And during these transitional times as seasons change, me personally, I'm in the sauna, I'm out of the sauna. I want something that's breathable, but also looks like bougie and nice where I can go to a fancy dinner. I don't know. Does 100 % Mongolian cashmere do that? Did he say that? Did he say that? It does, Jason. Yeah, yeah. So I'm breathing. If it gets a little hot, that's okay because it's nice and breathable. If it gets too hot, pull that sweater off and then tie the arms around your neck. And guess what? You just went from a seven to a nine and a half. Okay, preppy.

43:52Jason Stewart:Tattle tennis for me. This looks like a fucking ancient scroll if you're looking at my list. It can be funny or vulnerable. So I'm going to say I could be better at sort of being selfish. I want it Chris's way or the highway, and I need to kind of work on that. You mean better at being less selfish. Better at being less selfish, and I think that's something I could talk to with my better health therapist, Jason. and better is a feeling defined by you. And for BetterHelp, it's a BetterHelp therapist who really gets you to focus on global emotional well-being with thousands of therapists and millions of members in over 100 countries.

44:32It's progress, baby. And it's getting better. It's getting better, Jason. I think it's going to work if you talk to your BetterHelp therapist. That's something I would recommend for you as well.

45:32Jason Stewart:You know, two hours of sleep in the last two days. So tonight, you know, I guess after we pod and I get my edit on, Nine Orchard was nice enough to bless us with some under-eye masks. so I will mask up for my first responders. Maybe I'll go down to the lobby and do some editing with a cold brew and see if Alexa Chung is there or not. And then we got this Chanel event over at Balthazar. Do you think that's going to be a Trey Pass, or should I get a little nibble before? No, no, I'm sure. No, that's dinner for sure. You don't buy out Balthazar for Trey Pass, is my guess. You think it's going to be a seated dinner?

46:14Yeah, yeah.

46:15Jason Stewart:Funky. I think. I have no data on this. I mean, in your professional opinion as a NYC socialite. Maybe not. Now that you're putting, I would never even put that thought into my head. But now that you say that, obviously it's a possibility. You want to put some money on it? No, we're not that kind of show. We're not those kind of guys. I want us to be. Actually, speaking of US Open, every year I'm reminded of the Chubb. bank dude c h u b when alex when alex and i were there i was like i'm so desperate to get into the chub box and see what's going on in there and so chubb is whenever i'm internet not just in europe or whatever but mexico south america whatever chubb is a big thing but in america it is not and i wonder is the reason why chubb bank is not popping in america sort of the same way that europe had to change TJ Maxx to TK Maxx.

47:17Look, you know who Chubbs is in my life, and it ain't a bank. That's OVO squad. Is Chubb a bank, or is it like a consult? Is it like a Deloitte? Nobody knows.

47:29Jason Stewart:Nobody knows. Well, there's a new contender this year at the US Open, Harvey. Who Harvey? It just says Harvey. Steve Weinstein? Just Harvey on it. No, no, no. Not any of our guys. It's just the word Harvey the same way that it's just the word Chubb. Okay, I googled the word Harvey. It's AI software for legal services. Okay. Great way to spend some cash. Why not? I mean, I do think that having a sort of... Which I guess makes sense. Lawyers probably watch tennis, right? Yeah, totally. But I sort of think the intrigue of like, I know that as a name for a person, but don't know what it is, will encourage people like us to Google it, which I guess is the whole point of that sort of advertising.

48:12Jason Stewart:And then giving the AI company that is going to destroy thousands of jobs a human name so it feels less dark. No, that's definitely part of the plan. I know, I can't. I'm going to the US Open tomorrow. Big Foe? No, I'm going to the day match and Big Foe Shelton is the night match, which I'm upset that I'm, if I'm going to go, I would love to see that, obviously, but any semis, I'm kind of for. Like, once it gets serious, like every other sport, it's more fun. Of course, of course. Okay, so you got that. And is this a fun, is this a different box? Yeah, well, actually, this Cadillac and La Poche Rose, the skincare, is their seats.

48:57They're like third row seats, which is what I really prefer. Because you can, like, hear these motherfuckers breathing. You know what I mean? it's like a little better experience i would say what are you what are you gonna wear for the ghanies by the way i'm gonna wear a tux okay i'm gonna wear a tux i'm also a tux i i know i realized we didn't talk about it which seemed crazy but i think we just both knew yeah and i

49:21Jason Stewart:think i think it was better to do that classic route versus taking a swing you know what i mean people are asking about dress code but i'm like let's just say cocktail not to be not to be a wedding not but it's just sort of like it's easier that i say awards show chic rolls off the tongue award show chic means a lot of things you see how people show up to the vmas bro that hey you don't want that you don't want no that's i'm talking about real award shows also a war show chic that rolls right that rolls right off the tongue we should while we're talking about it let's let's uh let's just go ahead and thank our sponsors jason while we have some time here yes uh our threads ThreadsFamily is powering the red carpet.

50:01Marshall.

50:01Jason Stewart:Threads carpet. Providing the back line. They got the podcast listening stations. Bootleg is recording the music performances. The Infatuation Magna are sponsoring categories. And of course, our favorite Bjornkorn coming in last minute to make sure all you hoes are fed. I didn't know that. Yeah, so those martinis don't go to the dome too quick. Got to get you some corn in the belly. I have been on a big corn streak lately, actually. What do you mean? With popped variety or regular? Yeah, I've been making popcorn at home. Dude, stop. Bro, what is the 1950s? What are you doing? What are you doing?

50:39I have my cornfields and I plow them and I shuck them and I get my curls going. I touch every part of the process when it comes to my popcorn, so it's a little different for me.

50:48Jason Stewart:Some of us have different definitions of the word heirloom. You just do it on the stovetop. I get the big Le Creuset, the Dutch oven, big boy, you know, a nice chicken fryer. The reason why, it's because of the advent and popularity and rise of avocado oil has sort of helped get me in the popcorn zone. Because, wait, hold on one second. Someone's knocking on the door. yeah so i feel yeah because normally you would use um like vegetable oil cooking oil whatever to do popcorn because the good olive oil it gets too hot and it'll burn and it'll taste like shit um and same same thing with butter so avocado oil it's a good healthier neutral oil higher smoke point i just put i put in the oil warm it up for five minutes kernels go in i put salt on top of the the kernels lid on and then just as soon as it stops popping poured into a bowl done it's very simple very naked clean popcorn do you add anything to it i like to sometimes do a little salt and then spike a seasoning okay okay bro all right let's what okay we talk we're not talking we're not talking beach volleyball so explain to me what a spike means you've never heard of song i'm not familiar that that's not the it was i think it was i mean i only know about it from when i was a kid like my mom and grandma used to use it but you you would probably recognize it oh it's a brand it's a brand yeah yeah yeah i'm sure oh i'm sorry i thought it was like a method oh no i thought it was like a method i'm sorry okay like a little shake and bake kind of situation or something like that i thought you had i thought you were doing some salt bay type stuff i pop the corn i spike it yeah you heard me i don't give a fuck okay okay so it's a certain kind of it's like an old school sort of spice rack go-to i texted you a photo of it dude i do not recognize this great logo great name i know i don't recognize this so what is it is it just i grew i grew up eating it it's it's just like a it's like a specific very herbaceous sort of blend of seasonings it's like you know it's got 50 different herbs and spices in there probably uh but the the original one a lot of sodium in it so i get the sugar-free or sorry the the salt salt-free one and then i i I add my own kosher or whatever, you know, pink Himalayan, French, gray, Caspian sea salt or whatever.

53:19Jason Stewart:Wow. And that's it. That sounds delicious. It's very good. And, you know, you get the heirloom corn from the gourmet spot and then you just keep it real simple. Let the corn speak for itself. And then when it... We let the corn talk tonight, baby. We let the corn talk. And when you don't cover it with, you know, hot honey, brown butter, whatever shit, then, you know, it's a snack. You can pop over to the dog, grab a couple morsels. The whole family can really snack down like a feral beast for a low-calorie situation. Yeah, I mean, every anorexic girl I've ever known ate a lot of popcorn. So I kind of see where you're going with this.

53:56Jason Stewart:The popcorn and apples diet. Yeah, it's just nothing you don't need in everything you do. Oh, God. Don't peel it. I like the peeling. Don't peel it! Don't peel it. Yeah, I wish I liked apples, man. Maybe I should try for 2027 to push myself to eat more apples. Do you like apple juice? No. I just don't like any. None of it. I don't know what it is. Never liked it. Never really cared for it. My mom used to have an apple skinner that was sort of like a torture crank device looking thing that she would pull out. Skinner. Because I had to have them skinned if I was going to eat them with whatever peanut butter or whatever.

54:33But even then.

54:34Jason Stewart:Okay. I mean, did your mom call it a peeler or a skinner? because I want it to have a little southern skin to it. You know what I mean? Unfortunately, my mom would have probably called it a peeler just because she would use whatever the correct term was for the manufacturer. I just want to go to whatever corner of, this has nothing to do with your family, but some more so with mine, whatever corner of Appalachia where they call knives, skinners. Dude, we were in Colorado and I was talking to the fly fishing guide about breaking down a fucking, like a bison. and it was just like it was just one of those things where this guy is talking about something that is so normal to him and Alex and I are sitting there and I'm asking him questions and it's so foreign to us and I can tell Alex is just like I really don't want to hear this this is like making my stomach turn but I can't stop asking because it's just so fascinating to me that this is what you do for fun it was upsetting her but she also couldn't stop well no I think she knew that I wasn't going to stop talking because I'm a fucking loud mouth and she was like this is this is what i signed up for with this bitch but at least where i know that you're not uh you're not a lover of gore and and no anatomy no but i was more just like you and your boys go out and do this and then you got to bust this thing down and it takes hours and hours okay it's the boy angle god i got it and you probably and all that blood you don't want it to stain your shirt so you probably yeah you're gonna take that oh you have a white phoebe You file a button down?

56:04Jason Stewart:Oh, you're going to have to take that off, big guy. It's a really, I know those aren't cheap. Imagine if this guy's explaining this to me. I'm like, do you have to take your clothes off or do you just do it with your clothes on? Is that, I don't want to intrude, but. I mean, I'm not a professional hunter, but it feels like it could be optional, right? I mean, I wouldn't want to get anything dirty, personally. That's just me. It would be cool to see some blood splattered on the Phoebes in a playboy cardi related incident i'm gonna see him in a whole new way i got blood all over my dress this is fucking bullshit this is bullshit um i left you today after our interview at the nine orchard and went to the chelsea hotel for a lunch and i hadn't been there for lunch before and i wanted to say they offer a full range of eggs for the entire lunch service and that even though getting there from eggs your way uh yeah there's several options yeah there's four or five options um and there's avocado there's the regular toast i just i it's very hard getting to chelsea from this side of town is annoying as fuck it's like literally the worst thing to do but the ghani awards next tuesday yeah now that i rack at nyc now that i know that they have that on offer there at cafe chelsea it's i'm looking at a little different You can ride the city bike over there for some eggs though, right?

57:25I would, but honestly, that's the thing. It's like one of those situations where there's just not a really, it's 20 minutes on the city bike, which is pretty far on a bike. It is. It feels fine. And like in Europe, that feels like you're in another continent. But crossing east to west in Manhattan is, I don't wish that on my worst enemy. I really don't. It's hell on earth.

57:43Jason Stewart:Maybe one day when a hotel or a hotelier out there is like, you know what? We're going to hire Chris Black to do it. It's going to be, this is going to be your sort of Latte Larry moment when Chris gets a hold of the egg program. Every like quote real unquote restaurant should have an omelet or scrambled eggs on the lunch menu until dinner service. I don't think that's crazy. Well, I don't think that's crazy. I think that's a good idea. The issue gets into when you say quote unquote regular restaurant, that is just way too broad and broad let me say this jason okay let me let me i will say anything that is attached to a hotel absolutely should have it anything any restaurant attached to a hotel but i would say any you know like i don't know like balthazar odeon you can get a you can get an omelet at dinner or breakfast or lunch and i think that is i think that's just good business yeah i don't know i just see it seems like people actually want that and maybe i'm wrong maybe there's data what What if it's like whatever the ethnic version of that is?

58:52Jason Stewart:That's fine. Like the Mexican version of scrambled eggs and toast and avocado. They might do a little cilantro. It might be on a gordita instead of a Frenchette baguette or whatever. There might be a little cotija sprinkle. You welcome that. No problema. I accept that fully. I think that's even better. I think that let's just take eggs any way we can. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna there is a line of course you don't want your eggs to come out you know soft scramble is good for me and they've got chili crunch poured all over it without telling you then that's a line violation as a white as far as a white person Jason I don't consume chili crunch it's too political it's too it's too thanks to David Chang it's too politicized I can't touch it if I was seen it's something that I don't choose to wait into if I was if I asked for chili crunch at a restaurant maybe that was overheard by someone can you imagine what that would do to me?

59:45I mean, that could be diabolical.

59:47Jason Stewart:Overheard NYC. Chris Black requesting a chili crunch on his, that's right, Israeli hummus platter. Yeah, I mean, honestly, the ultimate egg lunch in New York City is Cafe Mogador. 100%. That's a big, bold egg lunch, Chris. Eggs your way, a delicious pita with zatar, and a little bit of hummus, a little bit of tabbouleh, that is the ultimate. And if you want the harissa to give a little kick, you can ask for that. One of the hotties will give it to you. It's just like, that is the ideal. And that is why that restaurant has lasted so long. I really believe that. Yeah, it is good. I mean, that is a place that I've been going to as long as I, it feels like as long as I've been coming to New York.

1:00:32Jason Stewart:So it is. Yeah, definitely, definitely. That is our institution. It's interesting because I don't ever want to eat couscous, really, which is what they offer at night, you know? But going there at 11.30 after getting a haircut, you know what? I'm going to do that tomorrow. And you have no problem swiping that little piece of za 'atar pita into a big thing of labneh. You're okay with that white creamy as long as it's a labneh? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. It's hummus. Oh, okay. Jack's wife, Frida, does a bootleg version that has more of a labneh. And under duress, yes. Okay. Under duress.

1:01:08Jason Stewart:You're going to choose the chickpea if you have to. If gun to head. But do you eat the little pickled vegetables that come along with it? The little pickled cauliflower or carrot that sometimes might come with it? Yeah, yeah. You'll do that? I'll do that, yeah. Actually, my friend Adam Ray was telling me about a restaurant in Berkeley that serves only pickled. It's like a pickled. Everything you get is in a bowl and pickled, and there's a kombucha tasting flight. And he's like, you got to check this out. Really? he's like honestly you walk out of there he's like you feel like fucking superman when you're finished because it's so good for you i mean i've i've i've been hearing of some people almost um overdosing on gut health microbiome bacteria is this anything that you're hearing from from all of our gut health maxers there is such a thing as going too far the same way that some of our you know testosterone creatine bros might have some bloating issues or you know whatever it may be no but that wouldn't surprise me that wouldn't surprise me at all yeah so i think much like um drugs and the tolerance levels you know sometimes you have to take a little a little microbiome probiotic break you can get a little too much in there take a kimchi break and then you know reintroduce some new bacteria so you're not just pummeling it i'd love to yeah i ate on the street in new york city last night my bacteria is high right now i need to fucking I need to figure it out.
